We fully expect Tyler Benson to go either 1st or 2nd overall in the WHL Bantam Draft this season. Here is a link to a video from an Edmonton Sports Broadcast that I think you all should watch.

There is no doubt that this kid should be # 1 @ the upcoming 2013 Bantam Draft. It really isn't even close in my opinion. Has all the tools and is great kid off the ice as well. You want your # 1 pick to be an impact player who can step in and contribute at 16 years old and this kid will be able to do that. Honourable mention to Sam Steele who is just as skilled and dynamic but isn't as big as Benson.
I certainly understand the obvious appeal of this player and the near-certainty that he will go #1 overall. I'd like to ask if anyone else (besides me) thinks Dante Fabbro could go in the Top 3, or at least the Top 5?
From what I've seen he is extraordinarily talented, having an unique package of skills for a 14 year old Defenceman.
12:49: I would think by his performance in June in Winnipeg with his spring team he is ranked about 40 too high. The Alberta boys made him look very average at best. Maybe he has improved and is the real deal but going by what I saw from him at that tourney he should be top 50 at best.
I watched every game @ the Winnipeg Tournament and the Mercury's made him look very average at best. I would love to see how some of these top ranked kids would fair on a weaker team. A lot of these kids that get most of the ink have played on strong teams thru their entire career with a great supporting cast.
What was the final score when the Mercury's played the Vipers. Who stood out (from both or from another team.) in the mix of all these players? I suppose I could go back and see notes or comments from last spring. How did Benson do at this tournament. I guess well see more of these players and where they are at in a few weeks.

Yes, take away the supporting cast and many, many of the top players that get the most press fall hard. Those players doing well and carrying the load on some of these lower teams are real work horses. Many of them would also be high goal scorers if they didn't have to spend most of their time playing the defensive game. In the long game these kids have learned to play both ways and are more rounded players. Trying to get a kid to be defensive when his only job for the last 6 years has been to score and be the star is very frustrating for them. I believe you could switch the teams of many of the top ranked players for good mid ranked players and the ink would start moving. Give me a 200ft player that can skate well any day. He is used to the hard work that is necessary to stay on top and win.

"I would love to see how some of these top ranked kids would fair on a weaker team."
A lot unfolds at the dub camps as these kids start at the bottom again and its only the ones with great work ethic and character that survive. It not always good to have been surrounded by other strong players and clingy parents. Always being the captain and having lots of bling in your room means nothing anymore.
And yes seeing them on a weaker team usually shows a lot.
Many rely on line mates to do the work and can be quite lazy. Those mid round picks often bypass "the stars".
The final score in the Winnipeg Tournament Gold medal game was 4-1 in favour of the Edmonton Mercury's. The score was very flattering to the Vipers as it could have easily been 8-1 had it not been for the stellar play of Shugrue. Dominated from start to finish and yes I know Jaeger White was out with injury but it wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome at all. Not to bad for a group of kids who collectively never played a single game together prior to this Tournament.
Benson was not as noticeable on this team as he is with his winter team ... This is to be expected as the rest of the Mercury kids were all talented as well and the talent pool drops significantly when you play winter hockey, therefore he becomes much more noticeable when playing against the likes of lesser talented players.Having said that, he (Benson) played exceptionally well in Winnipeg.
and again you can tell that post after post is the same guy talking about bensen and when he was playing on the mercurys.i wonder your son must of been on the mercurys lol.most people no that in a tourney anything can happen.yes maybe he wasnt as good there as he is now in the league, but he is tearing it up.and again like i said we no who you are and where you play [[southeast ]]so you can sit there and bash him all you want, but at least bensen and family just play not try and nock down other players.you just keep kissing your coaches a#@ and begging for help on your line, just like last yr where you needed help, and where the south teams make you look better than you actually are.hense when you play a tough team your kid dissapears.just maybe this is why your team gives you a easy pool for the tourney lol lol
Kid is a special talent. No one has come close to dominating the AMBHL like he is this year. Attribute it to weaker teams, poor talent year, whatever you want, no one has dominated like he did.
I was at that tourney in Winnipeg , benson was good , was to pt guy on team , he will be a top 1-5 pick , and there where other top kids on that team that where good as well , and a few that rode coat tails of these kids , so stfu south east
