British Columbia OMAHA
The league defending champs Kamloops Jardine Blazers have taken a 1-0 series lead over Kelowna with a 3-2 victory yesterday afternoon in Kelowna.  Maxwell James scored in 3OT to win it.  Kamloops can clinch today and move on to provincials.

Alberta AMBHL
The SSAC Southgate Lions have rolled through a pair of series so far in the ultra competitive Nitro North Division.  First, they defeated the 18-8-7 St. Albert Sabres and then won 2 straight as well against a hot Edmonton CAC squad.  The usual suspects have been red hot so far in the 4 games this playoffs with 98 born Tyler Benson leading the way with 1-11-12, Giorgio Estephan 6-5-11, Quinn Greenly 4-6-10 and 98 D- David Quennville with 3-6-9.  SSAC will now go on to face Lloydminster in the North final.

The Lloydminster Heat who are coming off a successful campaign to which they easily won the Charger North by 11 points have made the North Final.  They first disposed of western Canada Bantam Championship host Spruce Grove in 2 straight games, outscoring them 14-4.  Then they needed 3 games to beat out Leduc 2 games to 1.  Regular season scoring leader Andrew Koep has picked up where he left off by scoring 6-4-10 so far in 5 games, Zach Fischer and 98 D- Kale Clague each have 6 points.

The Calgary Bisons have silenced their nay-sayers in and around the AMBHL defeated the Calgary Bronks in 3 very hard fought games.  They then played the AMBHL regular season champs in the Calgary Royals and beat them in 2 straight.   The first game against the Royals was one in OT with a bounce off the backboards and off the goalie and in.  The story so far for the Bisons has to be 98 born Zach Phillips who leads the team so far with 5-3-8 in 5 games.  Braylon Shmyr has 8 points as well while Nick Merkley has just 3 points in 3 games.

Lastly, the Medicine Hat Hounds and Airdrie Xtreme are tied at 1-1 with the 3rd and deciding game to go this afternoon in Medicine Hat.  Mitch Hallas enters the game leading the Hounds with 10 points in 5 games while Chad Harrison has 6 points in 4 games for Airdrie.

All Final statistics have now been updated for all leagues with the exception of the PCAHA.  However, statistics are updated for Kamloops, OHA, POE, Kelowna, Semiahmoo, Seafair and other select players from B.C.
RankingsWe have expanded the 1997 age group rankings to now a top 225.  The reason being is that there are approximetaly that many players drafted in the bantam draft each year.  More movement has occured which includes several deletions off all lists and several new additions to the 97 born and 98 born western Canada lists.

Interviews
First of all, I speak with one of the top defenceman available for the draft this year who didn't even begin playing hockey until he was 8 years old.  He also has bloodlines in the WHL.

I speak with a player who may get overlooked to a degree due to the region in western Canada he plays.  However, his talent shouldn't be overlooked and he has been amongst the best in his region for years now.

We meet a goalie from B.C. who is really turning it up late this season and could be a sneaky pick for a team in the mid rounds.

Finally, we introduce you to a huge 1998 born prospect who has a chance to be a first rounder next season.  He tells us what he believes it will take to get there.

News and Notes/Tournament Re-Cap
We do a final top 10 ranking of provincial teams across western Canada

A special U.S.A section is included which now has all eligable Minnesota born players who play high school or with Shattucks.  Also ranked once again are the top 10 teams in the western U.S.A. for 1997 born and we introduce you to some of the 1998 born teams to watch.

Special Feature:  If you remember back about a month on the blog, we started talking about the bantam draft and talked about how important it is and did a study of strength by province and other facts about the draft.  We have included the Bantam Draft Study in a 10 page section at the end of this newsletter

Sherwood Park Flyers 6 - Edmonton CAC 2

y5gwt.jpg
The Flyers would build up period leads of 2-0 and 4-0 and eventually cruise to the easy 6-2 win over Edmonton CAC in a battle of offence vs. defence on Wednesday night.  Leading the way for Sherwood Park was team scoring leader in 98 born Sam Steel who had 2-2-4.  Grayson Pawlenchuk had 1-2-3 and we except Grayson to be drafted in the top 3 rounds this season.  Defenceman Cameron Reagan and Brendan Guhle each had 2 points.  G- Zachary Klassen stopped 36 of 38.  For CAC, it was Gammer and Holterhus scoring while Tyler Kwiatkowski stopped 30 of 36.

The AMBHL Playoffs continue this evening with Red Deer White visting Medicine Hat, Lethbridge heading to Airdrie and Spruce Grove playing Lloydminster.

Calgary Bisons 3 - Calgary Bronks 2 OT
The Bisons take a 1-0 series lead with yet another AMBHL playoff game that required extra time.  The Calgary Bronks would take a 1-0 lead in to the 3rd period on a goal from Andrew Dunn.  Dunn had gone 20 regular season games without a goal!  The Bisons then got two goals in 56 secs to start the 3rd period on goals from Scott Suchan and Braylon Shmyr.  The Bisons held the lead for the rest of the 3rd period until captain Zac Whitby tied the game with just 50 seconds remaining.  Riley Morris who was selected as one of our AMBHL allstar goalies turned aside 44 of 46 shots he faced through regulation.  Logan Thompson of thel Bisons stopped 42 of 44 shots.  In overtime it was a pretty unlikely hero scoring the goal as Kobe Eagletail scored just about 5 minutes in to give the Bisons the win.  Eagletail had just 2 regular season goals.

Calgary Royals 3 - Calgary Northstar Sabres 2
The Royals fight back from a 2-1 late 2nd period deficit and score twice in the late stages of the 2nd and hold the lead in the 3rd for the win.  98 born F- Sean Montgomery, Cole Josefchak and D- Savi Scalise scored the winner for the Royals.  D- Andrew McCann added two assists.  G- Jake Morrissey stopped 21 of 23 shots.  Zach Sawchenko was back as the backup goalie.  No word on whether he will start next game or not.  For the Northstar Sabres, Jordan Xavier and Ben Zinkan replied.  Xavier added an assist for the only multiple point game.   Nicholas Patterson stopped 33 of 36.
