Today's Games
Oct 14 -  Coquitlam - Burnaby Minor
Oct 14 -  Cloverdale - Semiahmoo

Oct 13 -  BWC  1- Langley 2
'99 Jordan Hollett born was unreal again for Langley as the Eagles were out-shot 41-16.  Gingras and Wright with the goals.  Jake Kryski scored the lone goal on a nice feed from White.

Oct 9 -    Langley 3 - NSWC 1
- '99 born Hollett was outstanding in goal.  Luke Gingras led the way, figuring in on all 3 goals with 2-1-3.  D- Dennis Cholowski had 0-2-2,  Wright with a goal as well for the victors.
Oct 11 -  BWC 2 - Burnaby Minor 0
- BWC controlled the play throughout the game, firing over 60 shots on goalie Brandon Fung.
Oct 11 -  Semiahmoo 2 -  Coquitlam 2
- The teams had short benches in this one but played hard fought game.  Caleb Fantillo was especially good for Coquitlam in earning a tie.
Oct 11 -  Abbotsford  7 - Cloverdale 0
- Ben Brar paced the Abbotsford attack with 2 goals and got singles from 5 others.  '99 born McBeth picked up the shut-out!

PCAHA Flight 2
Oct 9  -   Richmond 6 - Chilliwack 0
Oct 9  -   South Delta 5 - Semiahmoo A2 - 0
Oct 10 -  North Vancouver 4 - Mission 1
Oct 10 -  Ridge Meadows 3 - BWC A2 1
Oct 11 -  Richmond  7 - Seafair 1

OMAHA Tier 1
Sept 29 -  POE 4 - Kamloops  1

Games this weekend
Oct 13  -  Kamloops - Kelowna
Oct 13  -  Prince George - POE
Oct 14  -  Prince George - POE

Manitoba - Winnipeg Bantam AAA
Oct 11 -  Brandon 5 - Interlake 3
Oct 12 -  Winnipeg Monarchs 5 - Pembina Valley 1
Oct 12 -  Winnipeg Warriors 7 - Central Plains 0

- Judging from the Hockey Manitoba AAA Showcase and the early portion of the Winnipeg AAA hockey season, some of which included games from the Showcase, it looks as though the four Winnipeg based teams are going dominate the league this season.  Interlake and Eastman may be able to hand in some games but the Eastman loss of Brett Howden to Midget will hurt them and their chances to succeed.

Quick note to editor - the Brandon/Interlake score is reversed. Interlake won 5-3

BWC managed only one goal against Langley, and only two goals against Burnaby Minor! Looks like offensive production is a problem for this year's Bruins. Goaltending is too.
It's early days yet, I know, but this is a very weak start for a team that hoped to defend at Westerns.

Meanwhile, Langley has back-to-back victories over the Winter Clubs (despite that late collapse in Chilliwack). So Langley is looking like the early favorite as the team to beat. Hmmm ... let's see how they deal with that

Langley, you got lucky for the second game in a row as your first year goalie stood on his head again....41-16 in shots for us. Don't get too high- still only tiering and very early in the season.

Langley has a strong collection of talent this season. So does NSWC, of course. So does BWC, though obviously not as strong as in recent years. And this illustrates one of those basic rules of hockey that many people forget: it's not the Coach, but the players that make the difference. Look at Cloverdale ... if they play in Tier 1 this year, they'll be lucky to win a game or two. But they probably won't even qualify for Tier 1. Their magic last year was the the collection of players, not MacGillivray. Likewise, Batchelor has no magic. They are competent Coaches, but no better than many of those volunteering for A1 teams in Aldergrove or Surrey or Mission, or ...
BWC is consistently successful because they consistently attract high-level players. On the other hand, associations like Langley and Cloverdale will rise and fall. And it's nice to see them peak occasionally and enjoy the competitive parity of young talent, which has little - if anything - to do with Coaches.

Langley the new cloverdale, should we even bother fiinshing the season.

For the langley game wright is a 98 not a 99 and his first name is baylee not mackenzie

CAC Lehigh has obviously been badly overpowered every game to date. It seems their only bright spot is potentially goaltending. What is your view on this? Statistically they are below .900 but I suspect they are facing an inrodinate number of high quality scoring chances per game.

Not sure where you got the shot total from. The shot clock at the end of the game had it 38 to 20 and most of BWC's shots came while on the power play, including a 5 on 3 for 1:20.
And why shouldn't a regular association be happy about beating a Winter Club that imports top players from all over B.C. and one from Alberta.

Gingras had no goals in the BWC game
he was in the box for one of the goals after he dangerously cross checked a player from behind into the boards, and the other they are claiming credit for was a ping pong type deflection off a players body

sounds like his parents are marketing the poor boy to death

simple tiering game, hopefully Langley doesn't expect to get any season points out that game.

a real show of who stood out and what team dominated was read by the shots on net

BWC 40
Langley 18

Shugrue was exposed after Langley's third shot and then got caught chasing a puck in the corner of the rink,

and if your wondering, I am not a BWC parent or fan and not a fan of Langley's poor antics and even worse parent group

Can't wait till the cow bells come out again

Missed one Sat Oct 13 winnipeg AAA Bantam 1- Hawks 4 -1 over Monarchs, MaCorister -2 goals, Loschiavo and Brakel added singles, Barley had 2 assist. Kubic started in net with a very strong proformance. This team will only get strong with the return of Patrick. It will be interesting to see how the Hawks do in Medicine Hat in November.

Of course Langley should be thrilled to beat the winter clubs. Especially back-to-back like that. It bodes well for the prospects of doing the same in regular season and beyond. Maybe they can sustain this level of play, maybe not. But why shouldn't they celebrate these wins?
And yes, Shugrue has been weak for BWC. I saw only one game in the Super Series and he let in a couple goals that were inexplicable. I saw two more outings in Chilliwack and he was uneven at best. I think we're seeing why he was almost never used last season. Coincidentally I was in Burnaby yesterday for the Steelers/Sockeyes game and watched most of the game that was played beforehand ... BWC A2 vs North Vcr A1 (love those jerseys!) and the A2 goalie was outstanding, certainly better than what I've seen on the A1 squad. It was only one game I know but was an awfully strong showing.

5 on 5 Langley is equal to either winterclub team. They just have to stay out of the box

BWC has only 3 goals in tiering games and they don't sound like they have jelled or started playing like a team.

Who is scoring for BWC?
Has BWC's top goalie played in both their games?
Who do they play next?

Would a slow start affect BWC at the end of the season
Or
Have some teams peaked their performance already?

You failed to mention that this BWC A2 goalie that they lost the game. NVan won that game, with a shut out, props to North Van.

AAA Winnipeg Bantam 1 Hawks looking stronger and stronger, impressive game on the weekend, top forwards include Loschiavo, McCorrister, Barley, Brakel, while the top defence include Dudek, Thornsteinson and Thurlbeck, very impressive, Patrick will only make this impressive team stronger.

Anonymous said...

Yes, full props to us (go STORM!!!) for the win. But that doesn't have anything to do with the goalie performance, which definitely qualified as "outstanding".
Not sure what axe you have to grind against their A2 goalie, but YOU forgot to mention that our second goal was into an empty net. Honestly, it was a game we could have won at least 5-0.

Don't care about a A2 goalie from anywhere, But do care about the goalie who won with a shutoutainst BWC,for being a NVan parent(MAYBE) I would think you would give props to your own goalie and not the other team. Something odd about this poster.

To the parents
Playing on a strong team will not get your kid drafted. It's up to him individually to to show his talents. So enough of which team is best.
Real scouts aren't fooled by team trophies, MVP's or captains letters. Hard work every shift will do it. Remember the kid has to want it , not Mom and Dad.

Anonymous said...

Yes who cares about an a2 goalie that was cut

716am - You're just revealing the fact that YOU would not be able to say a good word about anyone other than your own child and his team -- a hockey-parent trait that our game would be better off without.
Try to remember, your son is "playing" hockey ... with other kids. It's not about the grown-ups. It's not about you.

For those with a more objective outlook on the games our children play --- big tilt in Langley tonight. Can the Eagles keep their undefeated streak going against yet another top team?

Shutouts will be very easy to come by against BWC A2 this season, no firepower at all.

Only team I've seen with less offence is Cloverdale, they haven't scored a goal yet.

The Winnipeg Hawks will be scary good in MB this season, especially when Patrick joins the club. I'm looking forward to see how they will stack up in Medicine Hat with the other elite teams in Western Canada. There are few teams in MB that will give the Hawks stiff competition on regular basis.

Really 716am? Really??

I have literally seen a game where the goalie in a 6-0 loss was easily the most outstanding player in the game. Everyone in the rink knew it and enthusiastically cheered his performance.

Apparently, you will never be able to appreciate or acknowledge the talents of 'other' young athletes. Pity.

I agree with 1125am - it's about the horses you have to ride. Coaches don't matter much.
Also agree with the comments re Langley's penalties and BWC's goaltending.
Anybody else think Semi could hang with the top teams this season?

Anonymous said...

Semi will be a contender like last years team.

They have depth in all lines, and have many players jumping up the ranking because of the will and heart for the game, and "not because of the team they play for"

these kids want to compete at the top level and get there own there own, thats a recipe for sucsess

Anonymous said...

Amen 1040am.
Good thing Regush didn't jump ship to BWC. In Semi he is THE stud on a team that exceeds expectations. The Bruins are good, but are sure to disappoint relative to expectations (ie a three-peat at Westerns).

Rugush a stud! Wow thanks dad!
Actually he's a good player that is ranked too high still riding on his spring team exposure. Well done WEHP for sorting through and moving down all the players that aren't performing at year 2 bantam and giving credit to the seldom seen players that really mean business.

Anonymous said...

Semi exceeding expectations with a 1 win and 2 ties??? BWC dominated last night...if not for Kelleway the scoresheet would have shown a much different result.

Real Scouts also dont read these comments, and make their own decisions based on how they play and not what angry parents say about other kids.

Two wins and two ties now for Semi ... only undefeated team after four games (Coquitlam has only played two).

Coaches don't matter much???? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhaahahhahahahahahahahahahahaahahahhhaaaaa!!! Get a good coach and you'll see the difference. That's not a high hockey IQ comment. Probably should think before you post.
Semi has a good coach but too early to say if they will stay with the top teams.

Anonymous said...

At this age and level of play (A1, Tier1 ... even Tier 2) the Coaches are all "competent" and they really don't make much difference. A little sometimes, but definitely not much.
1125am is right. The top teams are the top teams because of the collection of talent they have.
No Bantam Coach is making a silk purse from a roster full of sow's ears.

Anonymous said...

Do you want a competent coach that let horses run free or do you want coaches that actually teaches the kids and prepares them for the next level? I've watches alot of games above Bantam and it is quite obvious that kids that have had competent coaches over the years and the ones that have had good coaches. Believe me they are NOT all competent!!! If you say it doesn't matter then buy your kid a beer cooler and prepare him for his next level!!!

Anonymous said...

That's an interesting level of maturity you've displayed 930AM. All the time you took to to hammer out those "h"s and "a"s ... very grown up. I can imagine you're one of those delightful hockey-parents we get to read about in the newspapers. Or worse, maybe you're one of those Coaches that make the news for all the wrong reasons.

Remember Semi also tied South Delta twice in exhibition so they seem to be inconsistent.
