Chilliwack Bantam Tournament Semi - Finals
OHA 5- BWC 4 FINAL OHA heads to the tournament final later today.
NSWC 1 - POE 0 End 1st
Some quick notes so far from the tournament, much more later....Langley star '99 born defenseman Alec Capstick suffered a separated shoulder and will be out 6 weeks. It was in the game which Langley led 7-3 after 2 periods against NSWC, only to lose 9-8 in overtime in what was a thrilling display of talent.....Jake Kryski and Jaeger White as expected have been tremendous. In fact many are starting to talk about Kryski as a possible top 10 player for the up coming draft. Some news or rumblings around the tournament is that one of the top defenseman in western Canada - Dante Fabbro is considering the BCHL route, followed by College. We likely won't know anything concrete this season though and it may force a situation where he gets drafted by a B.C. squad and not come out east. Kyle Uy, Owen Seidel and Ken Kylyshbeck were very average as secondary scorers on BWC.....The Vancouver Thunderbirds got a couple great performances by hard hitting dman Paul Georgeopoulos. In fact, the BWC team were trying to keep Kryski/White line away from them.....Jordan Deyrmenjian for the Thunderbirds continues to improve at a rapid rate and could climb the rankings fast this year.....Dennis Cholowski, the smallish 5'7 D/F for Langley had his moments and definitely has high end skill. However, it fails to want to enter the corners and lay it on the line. Luke Gingras of Langley is a big forward who is noticable in all areas of the ice and was very dominant at times....'99 born goalie Jordan Hollett continues to prove he is the real deal....Abbotsford Hawks had their moments in the tournament and easily could've beat the BWC Bruins but the BWC PP was too good and that is where they will feast this season......more later....

BWC scrapes by Abbotsford and loses to OHA, and still all the talk is about their "stars". Seidel and White got outplayed big time by Malenstyn and Koch. Fabbro got outplayed by a couple of OHA defenders, and showed about as much class as a Sean Avery doing it. Yes, they have a good PP...they need it. They couldn't score an even strength goal on OHA. They'll have their ups and downs like every other top level team when they face stiff competition. Racking up 25-3 in pool play...who cares?
Langley showed great class up 8 to 3 on NSWC with 8 minutes to go . great hearing largely parents chirp
NSWC scored 6 goals on only 11 shots against Langley in the 3rd period and OT.
Malenstyn is the OHA team, scoring at will and running BWC defense out of the rink. Koch stands out with his awkward choppy skating style, 1 goal and 1 penalty shot goal, but just boring overall
Goaltending was questionable for BWC.
Congrats OHA, but don't get to far ahead of yourselves, you are starting to sound like Langley (one hit wonders or short term releases)
Now NSWC never disappoints their crowds , keep your heads screwed on
White, Kryski, Seidel, Uy, Kylshbeck combined for over 70 points in 6 games? that's above average with two of them returning injuries
Big names and hard work always put up big points, all you have to do is ask Langley about Hannoun, Anholt, Bellerieve, and Benjafield
Real scouts know the talent of certain kids that's why their the talk of the town. Don't make it so obvious trying to promote your own kid.
Fabbro takes some undisciplined penalties this tournament. Teams have figured out you can get under his skin easily and it throws him off his game. I agree on the class comment above.
OHA just squeaked by PG in the playoffs 4-3. 50+ shots for OHA. Gotta bury the puck boys.
Malenstyn and Koch took over the game vs BWC, OHA deserved to win it, just because big name players put up points in mean nothing games doesn't make them great. It's the players who show up to play when it counts that deserve to be praised. Not the ones who score 3 goals in a blowout game against a bad team.
2:03 I would be proud of your win and keep it at that. Beating a team by one goal in one game and trying to rerate the players shows a 3rd class operation. BWC had a very poor showing and you beat them by ONLY one goal????? What happened to the super duper duper star Koch/ Malenstyn combo in the final? Back to reality.... I heard very average at best. Congrats NSWC for your win and being a class operation!!!

If you were watching the same game you should take your rose colored glasses off. Your scouting analysis is laughable. Stick to your day job. BWC had a bad 2 games, end of story. Your Stanley Cup was the semi finals.
I feel your bitterness about Fabbro He did crush about 6 of your players (obviously your son) during the game with some suspect penalty calls from a guy who refereed like BWC played... very poor!!!!! Sean Avery made millions in the NHL, I hope Fabbro does the same. Great player to watch. On closing, NSWC beat you.
Malenstyn looked very good, and so did the OHA defence.
BWC goaltending is very weak. Only Langley looked worse. And yes, Fabbro's antics were surprising.
Congratulations OHA.
Good work to all players on 16 teams that came to compete. Good work to Chilliwack for hosting.
After watching most of every game, the one word that came into my head was parity. The elite are still elite, but each day seemed like any could beat the other. It's easy to tell that they thrive on this level of competition, and perhaps a Major Bantam division is needed. Of the other teams, Kelowna, Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver played better than their records showed. Lack of scoring and special teams seemed to be the gap. Of course some teams disappointed, but don't want to be negative. Congrats to the volunteers in Chilliwack for pulling off a great tourney.
Bellerive didnt do much in hard games in the tournament even against kelowna in an 8-0 win he had no points.
I watch the BWC/OHA and the NSWC/ Langley game.
OHA did win but I didn't see the domination that is talked about on this blog. OHA played very well but when the BWC turned it up in the end to try and tie it up, the clock couldn't run quick enough for OHA.
Fabbro was a very skilled physical player with some great solid hits. I didn't see any OHA defender even come close to his level of play. I don't quite understand the class comment unless you didn't like him being that physical. Sorry that's good hockey.
In the other game Langley had them but the throat. Undisciplined penalties let NWSC back in the game. Bellerive is a stud for 1998 let alone being a 1999. Maybe you weren't watching what he did without the puck. Points aren't the only gauge for good play. Plays both ends well. A very mature young player.
Hannoun just dominated the last of the third period. He exposed Cholowski very timid play and allowed him a free pass to the net.
I heard Langley parents talking about how bad NWSC was after the score was 8-3 in the third. Sometimes it might be better to be a little more humble and keep it shut.
Great hockey tournament to watch. Well done NSWC and thank you to Chilliwack Minor Hockey and all the volunteers!!!
Anyone have scoring stats for Chilliwack tourney?
A great tournament to watch, highly entertaining with some very closely matched teams and games.
It seems many forget these are 13-14 yr old players and to expect them to be at the top of their game each and every day is unrealistic. It's far too easy to criticize and cut them down rather than give all of them the benefit of the doubt and realize they are trying their best.
IOW, this is Bantam hockey not the pros, and all of us need to keep it in perspective.
Kryski from BWC. Hannoun from NSWC. Malenstyn from OHA White from BWC and McDonald from POE were all among top scorers
Koch from OHA single handed took out BWC,
the facts are on that score sheet
Benjafeild and Anholt also finished among the top scorers in the Chilliwack tournament.
5:27, how do you know the scorers? Are the stats posted some place? We were at the tourney and didn't see stats posted anywhere.
