The Rural Manitoba AAA Bantam Playoffs are drawing to a close and the finals are now set. To nobodies surprise it will be the Pembina Valley Hawks taking on the Brandon Wheat Kings in the final. Pembina Valley rolled through the preliminary portion of the schedule going 3-0-0 while out-scoring the opposition 28-1. Brandon went through the preliminary schedule 2-0-1 and outscored the opposition 23-5. The only blemish on the Brandon record was a tie vs. one of the other top teams in the tournament, Eastman Selects led by Kirklan Lycar.
In the semi-finals that took place this morning, it was Pembina Valley hammering on Interlake by a score of 10-1. Brandon was able to get by Eastman this morning in a re-match of tournament play by a score of 7-1 led by a Jordy Stallard hat-trick.
Pembina Valley vs. Brandon this afternoon at 5pm in the final. Stay tuned.

AMBHL Championship Final
SSAC Southgate Lions 5 - Calgary Bisons 4
SSAC build up a 5-1 3rd period lead and survive a late 3 goal Bisons comeback to hold on to a 5-4 win and take game 1 of the best of 5 series. SSAC was once again led by 98 born star forward Tyler Benson who scored a natural hat-trick to give the Lions a 5-1 lead and his 3rd goal was the eventual game winner. They also got 2 goals from top 10 rated prospect for the May 3rd bantam draft - Giorgio Estephan. David Quennville chipped in with a pair of helpers. Benson who leads the AMBHL playoffs in scoring with 10-14-24, Estephan is 2nd at 12-9-21 and Quennville 3rd at 5-12-17. For the Bisons, Nick Merkley scored twice, giving him 8 goals in 7 games. Shmyr continues to lead the Bisons in scoring with 7-8-15 in 8 games. Phillips scored again for the Bisons and '99 born forward Kyle Olson had 2 assists.
Game 2 goes this afternoon once again in Edmonton.

Saskatchewan Banatam SBAAHL Semi's
Balgonie 4 - Melville 1
The Prairie Storm advance to the league finals and a chance to represent Saskatchewan at westerns in Spruce Grove by virtue of a 4-1 victory yesterday. They got goals from Phillipson, Halbgewachs, Reid and Beaudry - a good sign for Balgonie is the spread out of others scoring a bit in the playoffs so far. They will need that as they advance further. Melville's lone goal was scored by Neuls.
Sask Valley 5 - North East Wolfpack 3
The Vipers live to play another day by winning in Melfort 5-3. Ryan Rothenburger scored twice and D- Evan Fiala scored 1-2-3. Fiala has made a steady climb up the rankings this season and is a good bet to be selected now in the top 3 rounds. For North East, Zac Paziuk scored his 2nd consecutive 2 goal game. He has really stepped up his game in the playoffs and now has 7 goals in 4 games thus far. The 3rd and deciding game goes at the beautiful new Warman Legends Centre on Tuesday night. Winner plays Balgonie in the final.

Hard to argue, the best team did win the south! 10-1 in two games for Balgonie??
Melvile was next best no doubt.
As a Weyburn parent, wanted to congratulate the Storm. Class act all year long. All the best at Westerns. Well coached and classy group of kids and parents. Also kudos to Melville for a very good year.
A little ahead of yourself they will still have to beat the wolfpack who beat them in Regina or the Vipers who gave the a good game.
Note to Northeast coaches and managers. If you guys did not ask for neutral officials, assigned from a completely other zone (whatever it cost) you have made a drastic, drastic mistake for tuesday's game. If I was playing in Warman, I would have asked for a whole neutral set of goal judges, off ice officials in score keeping and clock and completely neutal refs and linesmen. Don't kid yourself, Warman will do anything to win. I have never been in that rink without coming out feeling completely violated.
Completely different off ice officials? You cannot be serious. The on ice officials that do the games in both Warman and Martensville are league assigned and come from Saskatoon. Are you suggesting that referees that come from a city of 285,000 people are somehow in an elaborate scheme to ensure that a team from an entirely different community wins a hockey game? You can mastermind your conspiracy theories all you want but those are the facts.
