Intresting that you say Merkley will be a top 5 pick. He is no where near as good a the two bisons ayear ahead of him that went 14th and 19th again just another example of how weak this draft is

Merkley is better than point and mcmaster. But the 97 group is weak

Merkley is not as good as Point or Mcmaster and is a long way from his brother. He is good but tends to rag the puck and play all over the zone making it tough for others to play with him and develop chemistry. He has skill no doubt, but will have to change his game and become more positionally responsible at the next level. But yes, weak year for 97's in AB.

Why compare Merkley, Point and MacMaster they are all good! They are different ages and its a different year. Point and MacMaster had a stronger team overall and worked well together with Martin. Merkley does not have the same players to play with. Still everyone who plays with him mainly Shymr, and K Olson get points and all three are firmly on the leaderboard. Merkley recently was at MVP at the allstar game against all the best 97's in the province. From what I see Merkley makes everyone who plays with him better. BC is deeper for sure but there are some very good 97s in Alberta. Time will tell who will be the best but I would not underestimate Merkley.
