It has been a while since we've offered the rankings on the top 10 teams in each province. There have been several readers of the newsletter and/or the blog who have asked about some of the Saskatchewan teams or for that matter even the Manitoba teams and how they rank. It is a bit easier to rank the B.C. and Alberta teams this year due to the fact many of the top teams have met at the Medicine Hat and St. Albert tournaments. For the Saskatchewan and Manitoba teams it is a bit harder to gauge but there were some teams from Manitoba at the Medicine Hat tournament and Balgonie was at John Reid. It is apparent that there isn't a top 10 team in western Canada from either of those provinces.

That's very cool that you're separating out the provincial rankings now. I think that makes a lot of sense. Keep up the good work.
So, I guess in your rankings, Balgonie's 2 losses to Melville and losing 4 of 5 in St. Albert don't count when you are ranking teams. Also, if I am not mistaken, didnt Notre Dame beat Balgonie in St. Albert. I keep expecting to see Notre Dame in the rankings. I guess they are having an off year.
Great job as well. Honestly, did anyone out there predict the Royals to be as strong as they are this season? Just curious....
Norte dame plays in the midget leauge and would be hard to rank them
Good lists - for BC, there's the top 5, a dropoff to the next 2 then about 6 others - Kamloops, Nanaimo and Surrey have all traded blows with listed teams 8-10. Let the playoffs begin!!!!
Also, since notre dame has players from the eastern side of Canada such as Ontario and Quebec, they are not considered to be a western Canadian team.
NSWC deserves 3rd place...
POE and OHA are academies as well and are rated in the BC list. I guess with ND playing AA midget rather than bantam is the reason they arent rated.
5;13 jeez does that mean that the two academy teams aren,t BC teams because they have players from alberta and manitoba, ya got to be kidding me, if they pay they get to play for these schools, it is exactly how stupid some of these comments are on this site, what difference does it make if the parents chose to develop there kids in the manner they feel best for that player/student, focus on what the site does, its informative, if ya don,t like how teams do stuff or families make decisions for there family then go golfing or bowling god forbid your family might decide to move to the east to give your child the best opportunity he or she can have,
Weird how abbotsford is tenth when they ran over Kamloops 5-1 and has beaten Kelowna 2 out of 2 times!
All the Eastman teams ranked in Manitoba are AA teams , where is SW Cougars? They tied Pembina Valley once ,lost the second time and beat them the third time. They also beat the Monarchs and all the Eastman teams atthe Morris tournament. Also beat Eastman Selects AAA at the Showcase. They should perhaps be included??
Almost the entire OHA team is from the Okanagan Region or a few small towns in the North and the Island. Only one player is a non BC resident. It's a BC team.
I think the Sask rankings look pretty close. Most of the other Saskatoon teams would come right after that top 10 list I think.
9:15 I was at the Royals pre-season tourny and some of the kids who were the last cut should have been on the team. Two of those players had the most skill, one a D and the other a Forward but they made the team work with the limited skill that they have and chose.
Roayal have a great record but to win in the playoffs they will need to score .I would hate to see where the Royals would be without The Goalie. Royals will also loose round one Smart money on North Stars
Is it True Daniel Sprong is moving west?
12:01. Imagine if they took those kids, they would be 24-0-3. Give it a break, that team was picked perfectly and not one kid playing AA with Royals could sniff AAA team. Saying there should be 4 players different on a top team in western canada, laughable. That team, players and as much the coaches have done an incredible job
many of the Royals kids chosen to play AAA played for the coach in spring and attended his private prep camp in August.
ya where is southwest cougars and interlake lightning??? those eastman teams are AA' and the Eastman Selects aren't even in there that's the all-star team of the league!!!
Royals AAA parent here. Would love to hear names of players in AA that should be on AAA team. Its one thing to smash a coach for picking players on bias in a non-successful season (as obviously would result from poor decisions on previous relationships), but this team is one of top teams in league, so obviously team correctly selected and perhaps all those "extras" of spring team and private camsp were to benefit of team. Am i wrong?
Southwest Cougars (made up of kids from southwest rural Manitoba should be slotted at 2 or 3 in Manitoba.
Brandon Wheatkings vs. Pembina Valley Hawks in the 3rd Showcase will be a great game! Pretty sure winner gets first seed for Provincials...
With 2 wins in January over Prairie Storm (Balgonie), I would say Melville should be at #3 in SK. I think they have the best overall team. Let the playoffs tell the story I guess.
Melville being ranked third, really! Let's not for get the same month they beat the Storm twice, they also lost to the Oilers, Battleford and got pounded by West Central. Let's get real on here,
Melville has no goaltending, when there goalie gives them an average performance they can beat anyone, but when they get a poor performance, which they usually do,they can lose to teams that are weaker then they are.
I totally agree but the only reason they got pounded by west central was because they had 3 players suspended and one of them being there best player (boutin). I think when playoffs are all said and done Melville will be the team going to westerns.
Well MR. ummmm wont say your name. Storm parent said they were missing 3 when you beat them so lets just say it is a great year for close games but a very very thin year for Sask players draft, especially south. WEHP would you not agree worst in 6-7 years??
Don't forget.... the Royals AA teams are top 3 in their Calgary league too. Shows that they have depth in all areas.
Check the standings, stats and tournament success' to back it up!
