December 13, 2012 newsletter is now ready

The Christmas season is approaching and we are in a very busy portion of the bantam hockey season.  Some players are rising and making things very interesting.  There were several tournament over the weekend and several coming.  I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and wish you all safe travels!

Rankings
The November 28, 2012 newsletter is now ready.  In this edition of the newsletter, we update the Top 200 for 98's, Top 130 for 99's.  As well, stats have been updated for all players in the 98 and 99 age group with the exception of some PCAHA teams.  Updated heights and weights are updated as well for most teams in western Canada and the US.    The Top 40 western American players are updated.  There has been some change up near the top of the lists and new players have been added and deleted after a busy weekend in which there was a major tournament in Prince Albert, the 2nd of 3 Hockey Manitoba Bantam Showcases and tournaments in Victora, Lethbridge and Prince George.

Interviews
We had a chance to interview a new player who is primed to challenge for first overall in the bantam draft.  He comes from a storied hockey family and has got lots of help from them through the years.

I had a chance to speak with a player who has been a rapid riser, is a captain and had a very good tournament over the weekend.

We also speak with one of the top defenceman who could be available for the bantam draft if he chooses that route over the NCAA option that seems like a very likely option for the player.

Lastly, we introduce you to a '99 born player who had ample success at the peewee level with one of the top teams in western Canada.  He is just now starting to find his game as his strength improves

Team Rankings
The top 20 team rankings make its Fifth appearance in the newsletter since all leagues are now under way.  The team rankings are formatted in a newer style and is updated once again.  We also list who their next games are against.

Mid Term Mock Draft
As has been the norm over recent years, we do our mid term mock draft and highlight where a specific player may go and why.  We also re-cap who the WHL teams have taken in the previous draft as part of the reasoning for selection.  Mock Draft doesn't reflect the actual rankings.

Who are the teams in the Burnaby xmas tourny

Norm Lacombe debuted as St Albert's new coach in a 1-1 tie with CAC Tuesday night. Both Murray and Diamond were excellent in goal for SA and CAC respectively. Diamond especially had a strong game with some tough saves. CAC was short 3 players and lost Aiden Huggins part way through the game as well. Josh Mahura was the dominant player on the ice and assisted Zach Webb's tieing goal for the Raiders. Smallish d-man Cory Babichuk had a strong game for CAC and was a factor at both ends of the ice; he also helped set up Ben Gerbrandt's marker for CAC.

According the the November BC edition of Hockey Now, the teams participating in the Burnaby tournament are as follows:
Alaska, Arizona, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Cowichan, Kamloops, Langley, Nanaimo, OHA, Prince George, Richmond, Ridge Meadows, Seafair, South Delta, Surrey and Vancouver T-Birds

Sadly, the stature of this event has really plummeted.
Other than OHA, there are no elite teams in the mix this year. Langley is reasonably strong, but has only only won 4 out of 9 games in Flight 1.
I know it will still be fun for all the boys who participate. It's just that I remember working on this tourney when it was a big deal that attracted top squads. Oh well.

Maybe, but there are still many WEHP ranked players in this tournament to check out.

OTHER THAN OHA!!! (Who actually don't have many).

Is that because BWC aren't in it dad!

Plenty of good kids for me to watch.

Talking down to the teams and boys that are in this tournament is nasty to say the least.
I just checked the last rankings list and there are quite a few ranked players there.
Not all parents send their kids to a Club or Academy even if they can afford it. They are progressing nicely at home in their own training programmes thank you.

I would assume from your post that your son is either on OHA or not in this tournament. Grow up.

OHA has had a lot of narrow victories against other teams going to Burnaby. One thing about OHA, they tend to do just enough to win. Langley gave them all they could handle in Chilliwack. And you never know what will arrive from Alaska. They've had some good clubs in recent years.

I would like to congratulate WEHP on their last 98 player rankings list. This is not an easy task. I can only speak to the BC players there.
I see these players often and you have them all. I don't think you have missed any. The ranking order is always controversial and people will have different opinions on future potential. Those ranked 1-170 seem very stable on this list and I would agree that they are all very worthy to be there. This is a most useful blog.

how many ranked players are playing in the burnaby xmas tourney?

Anonymous said...

A few, none in the top 20. But it depends on which site you look at for rankings A few here are ranked very high on this site , but lower on others. Maybe 20 players total in the top 250 . None really in first or 2nd rounds. OHA is the only team ranked in the top 10. Why am I not surprised they are there. They should have gone to a Super series anywhere over Burnaby and Victoria.

45 ranked players in total are expected to participate in the Burnaby tournament.

26 ranked 98's and 19 ranked 99's based on the latest WEHP list.

Well thats enough for me to find it very interesting.
We don't only want to watch the highest ranked players.
Ranking order differs greatly from site to site.

170 are stable. Your player must be 169.
