Sherwood Park Flyers 6 - Edmonton CAC 2
The AMBHL Playoffs continue this evening with Red Deer White visting Medicine Hat, Lethbridge heading to Airdrie and Spruce Grove playing Lloydminster.
The Flyers would build up period leads of 2-0 and 4-0 and eventually cruise to the easy 6-2 win over Edmonton CAC in a battle of offence vs. defence on Wednesday night. Leading the way for Sherwood Park was team scoring leader in 98 born Sam Steel who had 2-2-4. Grayson Pawlenchuk had 1-2-3 and we except Grayson to be drafted in the top 3 rounds this season. Defenceman Cameron Reagan and Brendan Guhle each had 2 points. G- Zachary Klassen stopped 36 of 38. For CAC, it was Gammer and Holterhus scoring while Tyler Kwiatkowski stopped 30 of 36.
Calgary Bisons 3 - Calgary Bronks 2 OT
The Bisons take a 1-0 series lead with yet another AMBHL playoff game that required extra time. The Calgary Bronks would take a 1-0 lead in to the 3rd period on a goal from Andrew Dunn. Dunn had gone 20 regular season games without a goal! The Bisons then got two goals in 56 secs to start the 3rd period on goals from Scott Suchan and Braylon Shmyr. The Bisons held the lead for the rest of the 3rd period until captain Zac Whitby tied the game with just 50 seconds remaining. Riley Morris who was selected as one of our AMBHL allstar goalies turned aside 44 of 46 shots he faced through regulation. Logan Thompson of thel Bisons stopped 42 of 44 shots. In overtime it was a pretty unlikely hero scoring the goal as Kobe Eagletail scored just about 5 minutes in to give the Bisons the win. Eagletail had just 2 regular season goals.
Calgary Royals 3 - Calgary Northstar Sabres 2
The Royals fight back from a 2-1 late 2nd period deficit and score twice in the late stages of the 2nd and hold the lead in the 3rd for the win. 98 born F- Sean Montgomery, Cole Josefchak and D- Savi Scalise scored the winner for the Royals. D- Andrew McCann added two assists. G- Jake Morrissey stopped 21 of 23 shots. Zach Sawchenko was back as the backup goalie. No word on whether he will start next game or not. For the Northstar Sabres, Jordan Xavier and Ben Zinkan replied. Xavier added an assist for the only multiple point game. Nicholas Patterson stopped 33 of 36.

9 power plays to 2, really helped Sherwood Park establish a lead
I am glad that Eastman AAA has qualified for the provincials in Morden on March 16-18. But you neglect to say that all teams in Rural Manitoba also qualify including Brandon and Interlake a 9 team tournament. Top ranked Pembina Valley Hawks who are 39-7-1 will also be there. Good luck to all.
Can anyone tell me if Kelowna is out of the playoffs?
Kelowna finished the OMAHA tier 1 league (Kelowna, Kamloops and Vernon - academies aren't part of league playoffs and PG is a different district) in first place so had a first round by. The winner between Kamloops and Vernon will play Kelowna in the second round (best of 3) to determine district champion and who advances to Provincials.
Based on OMAHA standings, Kelowna was the next team behind POE and OHA in the standings and the academies aren't eligible for provincials. Kelowna waiting for winner of Kamloops vs Vernon.
an undisciplined 4 minute cth penalty cost the Bronks last night as it has all season. Up to that point they had controlled play and Morris was outstanding. Merkley continues to be a non-factor against the Bronks this year.
Was Merkley playing for Bisons or was he out with the shoulder injury.
Kelowna is waiting for kamloops and Vernon to finish up. They finished higher and got a bye for the first round. Kelowna plays Wenatchee Friday and again on Saturday.
PCAHA
Cloverdale in 2.
NSWC in 2
Semi in 2
Merkely played the whole game. The Bronks defense know how to keep him off the scoresheet. They have done it all season.
Semi beat Seafair 2-0 last night, Semi carried play 60/40 but quality scoring chances were pretty close. Both goalies played well with Semi scoring on a 2 on 1 in the 2nd and a wrap around with 5 min left in the 3rd. Pretty chippy game, no-one worried about sportsmanship points anymore!
Merkley played, he is 100%. He is trying to do too much himself IMO, and is being handled well by the Bronks d-men.
Semi 2 - Seafair 0; Semiahmoo yet to be scored against in playoffs
Kelowna over Wenatchee 4-1, game two sat afternoon.
funny how that terrible PCAHA playoff system works again. Looks like Cloverdale, BWC, NSWC and Semi will make it through.
Merkley was instrumental on 2 of the 3 goals in the first win both time easily gaining the zone and setting up the puck on the powerplay. Sometime the refs get don't get the points right. He moves the puck, he sent shymr for 3 breakaway and shmyr missed all 3. He set up Olson with a beautiful pass wide open at the side of the net and had several near misses himself. He hit the Bronks D all night and they looked scared. Not sure what game u are watching but I notice u comment on him and not the play of anyone else so he must of grabbed your attention. How do u know he's 100 percent...is that because he played so well??
Classic Semi style home ice advantage,
Two linesmen and no ref for a playoff game?
Semi controlled the game 60/40,
Abbotsford throws a wrench into the mix tying NSWC 1-1 for the second time this year. Could be a huge upset coming their way!
Kamloops over Vernon 4-1. 2nd round set to go this weekend vs Kelowna at Memorial, then Mac Isle
