1998 Born - AAA Elite
The Edmonton Mercurys to nobodies surprise have advanced to Sunday's final at the North American Hockey Classic. Their only hiccup in the tournament was a 5-3 to a very good DHI Octane Elite squad from Ontario. In the quarter-finals today, they defeated the Calgary Jr. Hitmen 5-2 with 2 goals from D - Cole Johnson and then beat Team Traktor 4-2 this evening with Sam Steel scoring two goals. The Mercurys will be play the winner of the Vancouver Vipers and the DHI Octane Elite in the final at 12pm local time in Winnipeg.
Thoughts:
Losing Jaeger White didn't really have an affect on the Vancouver Vipers stellar play as they rolled to a perfect 4-0-0 record entering tonight's game against DHI Octane Elite who were the only other team who didn't drop a contest. The Vipers have barely allowed any goals this spring led by the stellar goaltending of Tyler Shugrue and as many as 4 top 2 round defensive prospects. On the other end of the spectrum, the Notre Dame Prospects team went 0-5-0 and scored just 11 goals. Team Traktor, led by two of the top western USA prospects Kiefer Bellows and Joey Anderson were 4-1-0, losing in the semi finals but were the highest scoring team in the tournament. A bit more was expected of the Jr. Steelers as they went just 3-2-0 and scored just the 7th most goals in the tournament despite having many top offensive prospects. It has been a while since we have seen the Vancouver Selects Blue and the Saskatoon Jr. Blades teams struggle as they did, both were 1-4-0 and neither team was much of a threat. The Jr. Blades really struggle to score while the Selects Blue had troubles keeping the puck out of the net, allowing a tournament high 33 goals.

1999 Born - AAA Elite
It will be the Western Canada Selects taking on the Alberta Alliance in the '99 born final tomorrow at 12:15 Winnipeg time. The Western Canada Selects are a mish mash of players from around western Canada and got to this point via a 2-2 round robin record and then a 6-4 win today vs. the Minnesota Icemen. Michael Schumacher and Bobby Defriest each scored twice in helping the Western Canada Selects advance. The Alliance on the other hand went 3-1-0 in the round robin and then got by the tournament favourite Vancouver Selects today 5-4. Josh Paterson had 2 goals today and Matthew Wedman had 3 assists in packing the attack.
Thoughts:
We were a bit surprised in that the Manitoba Falcons took a while to get going in this tournament, stumbling out of the gate scoring just 7 goals in their first three games and dropping their first two contests. The Vancouver Selects were very strong throughout the tournament and looked primed to head to the final but dropped a tough 5-4 game to the Alberta Alliance. The Vancouver Vipers simply did not have it this tournament, going a disappointing 1-4-0.

white will be average on an average team, we hope the move was worth the money
I think you have to give Alliance credit. they work hard and have some solid skill. If goaltending holds up today, they should win. Best of luck A
Wish the NAHC web-site would take the time to post games played to more accurately reflect stats and what goes on. I was at the tourney and saw Sam Steel missed games as did other players, but the stat sheets dont show that anywhere.
