Alaska Ice Dogs Win Calgary Stampede Challenge

Alaskan Ice Dogs 10 - Foothills Elite 7 FINAL
The Alaska Ice Dogs who averaged nearly 10 goals per game in the tournament get 5 goals from Parker Aucoin in winning the championship today.  Sean Montgomery who played last season with the Calgary Royals and scored 17 goals had 1 goal and 4 assists.  Sean Richards had 4 points as well.  Brayden Dunn scored 2 goals, giving him 11 in the tournament and Michael Clarke continued his strong play with a 3 point game.  The Alaskan Ice Dogs fired 61 shots on the Foothills goalies Kurtis Chapman who was replaced late in the 2nd period by Jake Carlson.  Kayden Pickles stopped 28 of 35 in the win.  Parker Aucoin won the scoring race with 15 goals and 6 assists, 8 points more than the 2nd place scorers Matthew Phillips, Jordan Taupert and Michael Clarke.  Safe to say the strength of next years draft will shift back to Alberta for top end talent.  Players such as all the Edmonton Mercurys with Clague, Rotundo, Benson and Quenneville weren't even taking part.  All four of those players have a very good chance at first round selection next May.

Foothills Elite 7 - 98 Nationals 4
The Foothills Elite will move on to the final of the Stampede Challenge powered by a 4 goal first period and a 6-2 lead after the 2nd to win it 7-4.  Michael Clarke continued his strong tournament with 2 goals and 1 assist, Clarke now has 8 goals in the tournament.  Brayden Dunn scored his tournament leading 9th and Nolan Kurylo scored a pair, he now has 5.  The Nationals got 2 goals from Jackson Gibson, his first two of the tournament.  Jake Carlson got the win in goal for Foothills, turning aside 33 of 37 shots while Brodan Salmond stopped 41 of 48 for the Nationals.

Alaskan Ice Dogs 9 - Green Machine 1
The Ice Dogs continue to pile in the goals this tournament, having scored 48 now in 5 games heading to the final.  Parker Aucoin continues to show why he'll be a first rounder in the 2013 bantam draft, scoring 3 goals and 1 assist.  His 10 goals in 5 games lead the tournament as do his 15 points.  Highly regarded by WEHP, Ryley Mckinstry picked up 4 assists from defense.   The beat goes on this spring for Matthew Phillips as he scored another 2 goals, giving him 9.  Jordan Taupert and Nolan Walker also had strong games as reported.  In goal, Brett Petek turned aside 22 of 23 shots he faced.  Petek played last season in the Central Albert Hockey League BT2 and will look to challenge for the backup spot behind Kurtis Chapman in Airdrie next season.  Kolby Johnson was the lone goal scorer for the Green Machine, he finished the tournament with 3 goals and 5 assists in 5 games.  We should point out that Ice Dogs defenseman James Millar has been punishing all weekend long with strong defensive play and big hits.  Millar isn't one of the "big" names in Alberta but offers something a bit different.  99 born Kyle Olson continues to impress as well despite his small size.

Are you going to be covering the upcoming tournament in Kelowna for 1997's? the NAA rebels have three potential draftees on their team in Mckenzie, Biro, and Paradis.

What draft???

Kelowna tourny has two BC teams and two from Alberta. One team has mostly first and second rounders.NAA has 3 98,s >should be some good hockey.

The BC Breakers Team absolutely destroyed everyone by double digits. Forwards lead by Soy, Merkley, Morrison, Kawaguchi, Plotnikoff, Szeto and Finley with the D corps lead by Reddekopp, Reagan, Gatenby, Browne and the super smooth 98 Fabbro. Barry from OHA in net didn't allow a goal against until late in game 4. It was quite a show of puck possession dominance. Fabbro will be a very high pick.

double digits, must have been fun , not

What kind of coaches load a team for a b rate tourney come on guys you 97 spring is done for you time now to deal with 95s and 96s in midget aaa isnt it!

Heard Fabbro looked very average or less than in Winnipeg against the top dogs. He wanted nothing to do with the Mercury's front end in the final game. He would had a tough time cracking the Mercury's lineup by what I heard.

Vipers looked average against the Edmonton team. But it was too much power, Def could not get it going out of their end. Forwards kept pressing the entire game.I do not know what the shot count was. Score was 2-1 after the 2nd. Goalie kept them in it for that long.He was their strongest player without question.Look forward to the U16 when Alberta plays BC. That will be the next time these kids all play against each other.

DHI owned the Mercury"s in Winnipeg

Fabro played injured in Winnipeg?????

DHI played great against the Mercury's. Vipers played great against DHI. Mercury's played great against the Vipers. Throw in a side of Minnesota and Hit-men and you have a great tournament.

mercury out shot dhi big time , out played most off the game , could just not score, there goalie was game star, yes fabro did not do much in final and did get hit alot, mcdonald was all over him in that game, and white would have made no differnce in game , way to much hitting for him

Don't take to much from that game. The Vipers played poorly and are capable of more. It was their 21st game and their first loss. And you are wrong Jaeger White would of made a differance , last year he scored 5 goals in 2 games against the Wolverines. Also the Vipers Head Coach was not there.

that game says alot ,mercury are just better, diff team then wolviners, they added jost , mcdonald , and white whould have done 0, just ask fabbro about the hitting, so please enough abput white, lets just see what he does this yr, talk is cheap

That game says exactly what it was a game. DHI beat the Mercury's. Mercury's beat the Vipers and Vipers beat DHI. If you want to beat your drum on one game them have at it. Your the best...your unreal....god your good!!! Which team are we beating the drum for??
