Not many surprises on here except how many Saskatoon prospects. They have been highly touted all year yet never played anything meaning full and when they did didn't win anything. Then they come to SaskFirst and don't win anything there. In fact get blown out 6-0 in one game. But some how have all these top prospects. Maybe I'm missing something.

Wow 8 Saskatoon kids! Really?

Anonymous said...

Good list but only one forward from Prairie Storm? I think a couple of the Saskatoon forwards will be replaced. And I just don't see anything in Gabriel.
D is fairly accurate with the exception of Bear. I just don't see it with him either.

So the Zone that wins the tournament only gets 6 kids projected to the top 40? The team winning the South and being the highest scoring team gets 1 forward? Saskatoon gets what 9?

Flodell? Ingram? Bear? Really? Was I watching the same tournament? I fail to see what set them apart , not to mention a few more Saskatoon kids than expected!

remember its just an opinion, and everybody is wrong sometimes!!!

Saskatoon has 9 on the list. I find that hard to believe. How many guys on the SHA top 40 will be different when it is released. I am guessing lots. The second worst team in the tournament has 5 guys I think on WEHP top 40. 4 guys anyway. Still find that hard to believe. Bear is a good D man in my book, so good that he sometimes get bored. A lot of the players on WEHP top 40 list were picked based on their season and not soley on this tournament. The tournament is supposed to be what the kids are judged on, and not on what they did all year. That is where the differences will be on SHA list, I think. As April 23, 9:55am said, "Maybe I am missing something". Might be time to set up zones more like Manitoba and have 20 guys from each zone get placed on 8 teams randomly and see how good some of them are without their season long linemates playing with them.

1154 ... i understand where you are coming from with regard to a lack of storm players but taking anonymous shots at at 14 year olds is an innapripriate response.

Ethan Bear completely dominated the game against zone 6 cwmenting his status in the top 2 rounds of the draft.

Surronded by an elite zone 1 defense corps, Bear distinguished himself all weekend with offensive creativity uncommon foe his age.

As for Gabriel, all he did in addition to killing endless penalty minutes for zone 1, was find the time to score ir setup nearly 1/3 of his teams goals.

Both players were key pieces to the zone 1 championship puzzle. Top players on their team and top players in the province.

Again, I understand your frustration at lack of recognition for top prairie storm players, but attacking other top players is a poor vent for that frustration.

160 Players and over 150 scouts at Zone tournament. All kids got a good look!

Here is the all star team, based entirely on this weekend.

1ST Team

Halbewachs
Boutin
Nagy
Eskra
Fiala
Flodell

2ND Team

Campese
Draude
Cole
Murray
Olsen
Kustra

Does anyone know if there are any stats available from the weekend?

Umm 6:09 PM Taking shots? Attacking? Just looked like a couple people giving their opinions, they didn't even criticize anyone, just stated their opinion-that's all it is on these forums you know...lots of people's thoughts and opinions. Compared to other posts these are not offensive at all. Why so sensitive? It's not going to hurt anyone's chances of getting drafted, you do know that right?

Couldn't agree more 11:54! Gabriel and his line I thought had a great tournament 3 of 8 goals in the final as well as killing umpteen penalties. Ethan maybe had an off game the first one, but after that he shone!

Anonymous said...

OOPS, the last post to 11:54 was meant for 6:09

I agree that Bear and Gabrielle might have been top 2 on their team, but you can't really say top 2 in the province. How can Gabrielle be considered from the province when he attends various zone camps in the states as well. Who else from Saskatchewan can do that.

Anonymous said...

How could someone kill endless penalty minutes if the coaches were just rolling the lines as they were supposed to.

Anonymous said...

It's so surprising that there is an issue with Zone 1 since hockey is usually so fair and unbiased that I am shocked that Zone 1 went with stacked lines...sarcasm...

I watched Zone 1 play Zone 4 and there was nothing special to see there folks. Let me guess, Zone 1 was so good they were just bored!

All the questions will be answered come May 3rd and with the announcement of the Top 40. Be patient.

There will be some surprises as usual. Scouts don't check the game sheets after the game to see who played well.

8:16 ... I didn't say they were top 2 on their team. I said they were top players on their team. This team had many top players.

9:55 ... the coaches did roll the lines. Gabrielle-Jeannot-Piller followed the edge line of Shaw-Mayer-Halabuza, so they killed the penalties that line line incurred. Leslie-Halgbewachs-Phillipson followed them, so also did their fair share of PK. Not a bad thing. Just they way it worked out.

fyi 9:55a.m., scores don’t always reflect the game. Noting from the program itself, there are only 4 forwards and 3 defense from zone 6 listed….NOT 8 or 9 as some are suggesting. Indeed maybe you are missing something such as noting that 6 out of the 7 players listed from zone 6 played for many years for a reputable and successful Jr AAA SASK program that helped to develop them into skilled competitive players. Anyone that played against that particular team would know that, and how that team, which included many other players from other zones, represented SK very well at competitive tournaments. One cannot just look at the “weekend” to pick individuals to represent SK, we must look at the big picture including the many years of development leading up to the weekend. Although zone 6, as a whole, was not successful at SkFirst (happens to everyone at some point), some of the players mentioned certainly do deserve an opportunity to tryout and earn a spot to represent SK. Must we be so harsh as the list looks pretty accurate from an outsiders view. Good luck to all the players out there!

8:16 PM

Possibly top 2 after Halgbewachs, Cole, Neuls, Boutin, Riddle ....

Anonymous said...

11:11 5 forwards+3 Defense = 8. As far as Jr.AAA programs go, well good for them. But it doesn't matter how much effort, time, money or anything else you put in, if you are not good enough you are not good enough. Putting in the time on a AAA program does not guarantee a thing, and by the way 90% of the kids at SaskFirst have put the same amount of time in or they wouldn't be there. So Apples to Apples in the 2011 - 2012 season I stand by my comments. Saskatoon chose not to play in the best league in the Province and are now reaping what they sowed. I feel sorry for the kids that have to deal with not developing because of it but that is the reality of a goofy decision. But don't talk to me about how good they where in Pee Wee or as 1st years because that just doesn't matter.

Anonymous said...

11:11 Scores don't reflect the games? Maybe not 1 game... but I think in a tournament they do show a trend. Can't score more than the other teams consistently... lose consistently. Lose or tie more than you win... your not that good. And using your own words... In the big picture... the score does matter.

Anonymous said...

Whats wrong about all of this is that the top 40 won't be a true representation as Saskatoon overlooked many of its best, and denied those kids a spot on the team. A real slap in the face to some of those boys. Especially in regards to the forwards and goaltenders.

Anonymous said...

"Possibly top 2 after Halgbewachs, Cole, Neuls, Boutin, Riddle ...."

or somewhere in the mix ... those 7 + Troy Murray made up the top 1/2 of the team

Anonymous said...

11:11 AM

You are dreaming if you think SHA gives one hoot about what a player did last summer on a AAA team!

The players will be evaluated on what they did at the tournament.

Anonymous said...

neuls isnt even close

Anonymous said...

Easy he is a kid. Neuls has more leadership than that group and doesnt carry baggage around. Cole and Boutin can produce but can also cost any team they are with just as much if not more!

Anonymous said...

8:42 Fair & unbiased hey??? Hmmm I guess if that were the case we'd see a whole lot more of Zone 1 kids on the list of prospects, including the top 2 goalies in the province, but somehow not one of them were there!

Anonymous said...

in my books Neuls is one of the most complete players in the province. Great leadership, skill, and willing to sacrifice his body for the good of the team.

Anonymous said...

Not much flow at tournament with 4 forward lines....3-5 shifts per period....boring for all players that are use to running 3 lines! SAHA tweak this for 2013 and it will be better showcase.

Anonymous said...

cole and boutin are on the top prospects list. They will both be top 3 round picks this year! Nuels might not be that high but he will still get drafted.

Anonymous said...

I think that zone 6 was weak, especially up in the front end. With that said I would have to agree with the comment that wait until draft day to see where players are chosen. I would have to imagine that most of the players who participated on the 97 AAA Jr Blades will be taken at some point. With this said, I would have to think that SaskFirst would be smart enough to include most if not all of them on their roster.

Anonymous said...

tesarowski i thought had a very good weekend

Anonymous said...

My view is that Halbewachs has the best offensive potential, Cole has the best hockey sense, and Boutin had the best tournament of any. The draft really is just an opportunity for these kids to show their stuff at the WHL camps and no guarantee to make any team so I don't think the rankings really matter all that much. Will be interesting to see how it pans out but really only time will tell what happens.

Anonymous said...

oh my goodness. are we actually looking at what kids did in spring hockey tournaments as 10 year olds? holy cow guys.

Anonymous said...

Neuls can really handle the puck he should go pretty high in the draft in my books.

Anonymous said...

I thought zone 2(regina) had a very good weekend, there was some players that really shined.
