KIBIHT Tournament Day 4

OHA 5 - Mission 1 End 1st
First Period
A fairly slow paced first period as teams begin to look tired after playing so many games in a short time frame.  OHA got on the board first on a Brady Reagan blast from the right point after taking a pass from Clifford.  Play would go back and forth for the rest of the period as the undermanned Mission squad kept shifts short and are also dealing without having their top offensive player in Jacob Kranabetter.  Late in the period, Mission was awarded a PP and on the subsequent PP Nolan Zweep's hard work paid off as he found a wide open Brice Sharp who beat Barry in the OHA goal on a great shot to tie it at 1-1 after 1.

Second Period
Mission finally started to tire which has given room to Brad Morrison to dangle in and out of the Mission Stars team for most of the period.  He proved that he belongs in the late first to early second round on draft day this tournament with some high end skill.  Brady Reagan is a rock on the back-end and really doesn't look too far off from being able to anchor a WHL defense.  For Mission, Bradley Veitch has been very solid despite giving up 5 goals.  He has played in every minute of every game thus far for Mission and they came to the tournament with just one goalie.

POE 7 - Airdrie 0 Final
First Period
A period which was totally dominated from puck drop to the final buzzer for POE.  They started things off early, just 21 seconds in with who I think was Kody Mcdonald.  Then as I was writing that play down it looked like it was Liam Finlay who came in and scored.  Airdrie would then replace starting goaltending Ternes with 98 born Chapman.  POE would continue to press by activating their defenseman all period long and pressuring with a 5 man attack and it looked like Tanner Browne scored by crashing the net hard but the goal was waived off.    Then just past the midway point of the period 98 born Tyson Jost would take a pass and weave through the entire Airdrie team and score a beauty goal.  Then 1:26 late, Ethan Bear would rush down the right wing side and feed a perfect pass over to Levi Johnson for a easy tip-in goal.  Airdrie called a time-out and tried to settle things down a bit and had about 30 seconds of pressure but that was it for them in the period.

Second Period
Much more of the same in the 2nd period as Jordan Kawaguchi scored just 31 seconds in on a very nice goal in tight and he showed quick hands in lifting it over the Airdrie goalie.  Then around the midway point, Joe Gatenby takes a drop pass and hammers past the Airdrie goalie on a WHL caliber looking one-timer from the top of the circle.  Then with the difference of more than 5 goals, the clock would run on straight time.  Aidrie again would have one little flurry of chances led by the hard work of Ryan Barrow but he couldn't quite find the back of the net.  POE would add one more late one as 5'3 Liam Finlay would pick up a loose puck and score low blocker.  Finlay and Jost have been the most dangerous POE forwards this game as most of the offence continues to come from the active defense.

Third Period
Both teams basically just ran out the 3rd period and went for a skate.  No real dangerous chances, other than an Airdrie post.

POE and NSWC will move on to the playoff round from their group.  OHA is already in from the other division in Tier 1 and Kamloops can join them with a win.


From last night late, after we called it a night.

POE 11 - Westside 0
Jordan Kawaguchi was in on the first 5 goals as he had 2-3-5 and Liam Finlay had 4 helpers to lead POE to an easy victory late last night.  Defenseman Tyler Brown and Joe Gatenby each had 2 goal games as well.  Although we didn't watch this game, it appears POE D- Tanner Browne had a bee in his bonnet as he took 2 double minors for CTH as well as receiving 2 and a 10 for cross check near the end of the game.  Tyson Jost and Austin Wellsby also had 1-1-2 for POE.

Seattle 5 - Airdrie 2
Team Seattle got goals from 5 different players with Van Schaack, Cole and Greenhall all picking up 1-1-2 in the victory.  Woolfenden and Greer also scored for Seattle.  Chad Harrison continues his good tournament for Airdrie with 1-1-2.

- With two teams advancing from this division, we still have three teams in the hunt.  NSWC will play Seattle today at 12:00 PST with the winner moving on to the playoff round.  POE will be playoff bound by defeating both NSWC and Seattle already.

- OHA will move on to the playoff round.  Host Kamloops can control their own destiny with a victory over Grand Prairie who amazingly enough is still in the hunt.  Notre Dame is also in a must win against Burnaby today if they want any chance of making it.
