KIBIHT Tournament Day 3

NSWC 3 - Sask Valley 1 Late 3rd
First Period
A very clogged up period with not much room through the neutral zone.  No odd man rushes or breakaways really to speak of.  For NSWC, 98 born Tak Anholt had a couple decent scoring chances and D - Cal Brebner skated well and moved the puck extremely well from the back-end.  For Sask Valley, Terrell Draude was once again dangerous and is able to use pure hockey sense to create chances for himself.

Second Period
Much of the same in the 2nd period although a few more clear cut chances.  Terrell Draude had a breakaway but Stapley from NSWC was able to close the gap quick and disrupt the shot.  Rothenburger continued to work hard for Sask Valley as did 98 born Scotty Stewart.  For NSWC, Jansen Harkins didn't find the scoresheet but had one of the most dominant shifts of the tournament.  However, he was stopped 3 times.  Nash Dabb has shown good speed and Ryland Chernomaz has worked hard all night.  The lone goal came on the PP for NSWC as Brebner fed Dabb who shot and it is looked like Hannoun tipped it in, although they gave it to Dabb.

Third Period
Jansen Harkins scored for NSWC and Liam Maley for Sask Valley.  Going to call it a day, exhausted!  See you all tomorrow.


Kamloops 2 - Burnaby MHA 0
Bazien and James for Kamloops.  Both have been very strong throughout.  Joshua Shank continues his strong play with the shutout.  That is the 2nd shutout of KIBIHT for Shank.


POE 4 - Seattle 0
Kawaguchi, Williams, Ayre and Bear for POE.  Kawaguchi and Ayre added an assist each for a 2 point night.  Levi Johnson had 2 helpers.


OHA 3 - Notre Dame 1 Final
First Period
OHA came out showing some big time speed and Malentsyn was the first to score early in the first period.  It was like he was shot out of a rocket and made no mistake.  Jared Hilderman would tie the game up at 1-1 on a low screen shot past Schovanek thanks to good work on the wall by Colin Burston.  OHA has a very fast team and they try to spring guys for 2 on 1's and breakaways.  Fiust, Malenstyn and Morrison were dangerous all period long.  Fiust likes to work the left wing half wall and see's the ice well.  Morrison is dangerous in all areas and has some slick moves which directly resulted in a pair of Notre Dame pims.  Malenstyn is very skilled an isn't afraid to go to the net.  He could be a first rounder next year if he continues his development.  For Notre Dame, Colin Burston was once again very good and should be considered for the bantam draft.  He has been one of the best players for Notre Dame so far in the tournament.  Jared Hilderman was solid as was Evan Werle who laid out a couple huge hits in the period.  Once again Leif Hertz was very good in goal for the Hounds.

Second Period
It looks like Notre Dame made an adjustment by keeping a dman further back in the 2nd period as they were able to contain the OHA speed attack much more successfully.  The lone goal of the period came on a rather innocent looking play as Trevor Bottomley fired a shot from the left point which looked to beat a screened Hertz in the Notre Dame goal to make it 2-1 OHA.  I very similar goal to that of Hilderman in the first period.  The game got a bit chippy near the end of the period as OHA took a couple penalties to give Notre Dame a 5 on 3.  Soon after, Zimmer had a glorious chance to tie it up but he fired it high and wide.  Then he hit Malenstyn from behind out of frustration and got kicked out of the game for checking from behind.  The players who stood out in the first period, did so once again the 2nd period.  OHA will take almost 4 mins of PP time in to the 3rd.  Morrison can flat out fly for OHA and has some shifty moves.  He hasn't been able to score yet in this one but it seems as though it is only a matter of time.

Third Period
A fairly spirited third period results in Even Werle taking the Notre Dame second 5 minute major of the game on a hit from behind on Clifford.  Clifford was helped off the ice by his dad who happens to be the trainer.  On the subsequent PP it was Carter Rhine taking a loose puck in zone and skating to between the circles where he fired slap shot past or Hertz.  For Notre Dame, Hilderman was very strong and showed some grit and determination.  Brady Reagan played over half the game and was steady.

Sask Valley 4 - Airdrie 2 Final
First Period 
 Sask Valley Vipers have come out with more aggression, more speed and more of a work ethic in the first period.  6'2 Terrell Druade has been a force, using his size and reach to separate and work the cycle down low on several occasions, directly resulting in a pair of goals.  Draude had a beautiful feed out front for the first Vipers goals but I couldn't catch who scored it.  The 2nd Vipers goal was a blast from the left point off the stick of D - Jaden Norrish to make it 2-0 before the game was 6 minutes old.   The game then started to get a bit chippy as Kenneday Fox-Zacharias who had a gritty period drove the net hard and Austin Cameron took exception.  Then a knee on knee hit on Ryan Barrow resulting in a no call.  The period ended with another Terrell Draude rush on a great individual effort in which he was stopped but Ryan Rothenberger was able to snap home a shot to make it 3-0 on the rebound.  For Aidrie Austyn Fyten showed some hussel and work ethic as did Cameron.

Second period
Airdrie seemed to have wore off their morning legs and came out with far more jump.  Andrew Fyten showed a strong work ethic again for Airdrie and is looking good heading in to next year as a 98 born to watch.  For Sask Valley, Fiala was very stready and Ryan Rothenburger showed very well that period.

Third Period
Airdrie carried their momentum from the second to the third period and were finally rewarded as Harrison skated in from the point and placed a wrist shot high past Ingram to make it 3-1.  Ingram then made several huge stops for Sask Valley as Airdrie continued to press but finally one got by him as Ryley Smith took a shot off the face-off which would beat  Ingram.  The game stayed 3-2 until the late stages of the game until D - Evan Fiala scored with 20 seconds remaining to give Sask Valley their first win of the tournament and now have a 1-2-0 record.  Airdrie now falls to 1-2-0 as well.  Harrison, Fyten and Harrison were very strong  for Airdrie, while Draude, Fiala and Zacharias were good for Sask Valley along with goalie Ingram.  We fully expect Draude and Fiala to go somewhere in the top 2 rounds on draft day.

NSWC 8 - Westside 1 Final
Jansen Harkins follows up his huge performance yesterday with a 2-4-6 game today in a 8-1 win.  We feel Harkins will go somewhere in the top 8 picks, depending on which team jumps up to take him.  Nash Dabb had 2 goals and NSWC also got 1-2-3 each from 98 born Dante Hannoun and Quinn Benjafield.  Harkins leads all scorers at KIBIHT with 7-5-12 and Benjafield has 7 points now.  Dubbledam had the lone goal for Westside.  NSWC is now 2-1-0 and looks primed for a finals appearance.
