The Calgary Jr. Hitmen simply had too much depth for the NSD Raiders in the finale of the first major spring/summer hockey tournament. The NSD Raiders got some great play from their top line of Sam Steel, Alex Rotundo and Nolan Volvan all tournament long but in the end it wasn't enough to win the tournament. NSD took a 1-0 lead after the 1st period on a goal by tournament scoring leader Nolan Volcan. The Jr. Hitmen would score 3 goals in each of the second and third periods. Leading the way for the Jr. Hitmen was Dillon Dube scoring his 7th and 8th of the tournament and Matthew Phillips scoring his tournament leading 11th. Parker Aucoin and '99 born Kyle Olson also had 3 point games. Kyle Dumba continued his strong play in goal, stopping 24/25 shots he faced. On the other side, Fort Saskatchewan's Tyler Hart turned away 18/24 shots in the loss.

Vancouver Vipers Win the Super Series - in Langley
The Vanvouver Vipers continue to roll in spring hockey as they have yet to lose after defeating the Pacific Knights in the final at the super series in Langley. Not sure why they didn't play the Selects Blue in the final but nonetheless. The Vipers had Jaeger White back in the lineup who played with a fractured wrist and put up a multiple point game. Jake Kryski and D - Matt Barberis had multiple point games as well.

NSD were up 1 at the end of the first. The referees in the game were terrible. In fact, all weekend they were terrible. The Hitmen had 5 power play goals! Depht played into the outcome somewhat. That said, full credit to the spring team that had two players that didn't play AAA last season. Just for your records!
The first major tournament of the spring season was the Mainland tournament in Vancouver. It was played 2 weeks ago.
To clarify, the weekend was a jamboree style - not really a tournament. The goal was give the US team some quality hockey. While Vipers/Selects were scheduled to play Sunday, the US squad requested to play Selects before the departed. As they had travelled from Dallas/LA/Colorado, it made sense to honor their request. It was a good, well played game, some definite skill from US kids, and they competed very well for not having all played together before.
What kind of tournament was this?
