WEHP Announce Top 10 Team Rankings

WEHP are pleased to announce our top 10 preliminary team rankings for the 2011-2012 season.  Rankings at this point are based on projected returning players, new players potentially joining from AA or Peewee players making the jump up to Bantam AAA or in the case of Saskatchewan Bantam AA. We are still playing with the idea of whether to include POE, Notre Dame, OHA or any of the other prep schools in the rankings as they are able to bring players in from all over.  So for now, we will not include either of the 3 schools, even though they are exceptionally strong teams this year and will make noise in any tournament they enter.

WEHP Top 10 Rankings
1.   Burnbaby Winter Club Bruins - A solid core of returning players, addition of Musil, good solid defence and goaltending and a good crop of 98's coming in led by Fabbro.
2.   Edmonton CAC - Returning a solid core of forwards led by Stewart and Burke, defence led by Greer and strong goaltending.
3.   Winnipeg Sharks - Dallas Miller and Reid Gardiner are a pair of first round prospects who will have big seasons.  Purtill and Uhryniak will add good depth.
4.   Calgary Bisons - Merkley, Lester, Shmyr give the Bisons some good anchors in key positions.
5.   Cloverdale Colts - One of the better projected offensive teams this year in western Canada led by Soy, Seto, Stukel and Henderson.
6.   Lloydminster Heat - Perhaps the top defenceman in bantam hockey in western Canada is a '98 born in Kale Clague.  Koep and others will add very good offence.
7.   Kamloops Jardine Blazers - Winters and Davis on defence give kamloops as good a 1-2 punch back there as any team. Bazien and Chyzowski up front will score and a good group of Peewee's moving up.

8.   Winnipeg Warriors - A bantam 2 team that lost just 3 games last year should make noise in Manitoba.
9.   Melville Millionaires- Despite losing Bear to POE, they still return a very strong core from last year and bring in some dynamite defenceman from Peewee.
10.  Semiahmoo - Craighead, Bradley, Wesley and young Michael Regush give them a good chance at success this year.

One omission from PCAHA is NSWC.
They are returning the most players and have good depth. Cloverdale does have some potent offence but depth up front and keeping the puck out of their own net will be a big challenge. They look like maybe 4-5 in PCAHA alone.
IMO..

If NSWC comes in 8th last year, and the 98's are good with one very strong center. How can you feel its a omission with the top teams from Western Canada. Scoring was a problem last year for them. They were last for GF in the 20 game division.
Where would you place them ??
Goalies can't save this team this season. Abbey,Semi,Clover,BWC,Langley. Sea,Holly,Surrey,Mission-are not bad either. Time will tell, I hope they are strong, NSWC just does not seem to be the firepower team of the past.

I think bisons will be a better team than cac. Also some of the ambhl teams might surprise some people

I believe you have overlooked one Saskatchewan team in your top 10, many would probably favor to win the province to start the year!. A very good returning group of Prarie Storm players including Halbgewachs and Riddle will benefit from the SHA's effort to create one Saskatchewan AA Bantam league. This plan fell a bit short with the Saskatoon teams refusing to get on board. But it did manage to help some areas including the Storm with the dimise of the Lumsden program, they should add a number of quality players to an already strong group.

8th last year with a team of mostly 97's..thats exactly how.
NSWC will be 2 or 3 in PCAHA fighting it out with Semi.
gap to...
Clov
Seaf
Mission
gap to...
Holly
Abby
Lgly
Surrey
SDelta

Who are you kidding Melville??? They will be lucky to be in the top five in the Sask south league

Anonymous said...

even though BC 2 provinces over from WEHP and an hour behind they still first in to write about their kids....

Anonymous said...

Cloverdale also has 2 Monster D-Men, 2 other forwards who are better than the top 2 forwards from almost any team ,and a goaltender that is going to turn some heads.

NSWC has Harkins who is small but does have some skill, Dabb who has some speed, and 2 solid Goalies. Their big guy does get on the score sheet a lot, but mostly for penalties. They will probably finish 4th in the PCAHA behind BWC, Cloverdale and Semi. After them the rest of the teams in the PCAHA are basically Tier 2.

Nswc has maybe top 10 pick dante Hannoun. Also look out for med hat. And Lloyd too. Lloyd med hat bisons cac alberta top 4 . Bwc Poe cloverdale nswc top 4 in bc. Not to familiar with sask or manitoba

And what about Prince Albert. Generally in Bantam AA in Saskatchewan, if you have 2 or 3 top end players you should compete for a championship. Gunville, Morrison and Campese are all on WEHP top 150. How many other teams have 3 guys in the top 150. I am sure there are some, but not lots, and not lots in Saskatchewan. And Melville in top 10. I find that hard to believe.

Going be intersting year the Alberta battle will be interesting, not going to get a real sense until Medicine Hat and some of the North and South games have been played.

Airdrie, Inland, SSAC.

Winnipeg would not bet against the Hawks or Sharks.

Sask you wont know until one of their top teams goes to a major tournamnent.

BC usually start bit later with that crazy tiering stuff, same for the top BC teams wont know till the Hat.

In addition to my Prince Albert comment, I agree with the Prairie Storm guy who thinks they will be a top team, and then there is Weyburn, who I am sure are laughing at Melville being rated #9. Let the games begin.

Anonymous said...

WHo will Prairie Strom have top 6-97,s and top 2-98,s and goalies?

Anonymous said...

Thinking that the Bisons are the team to beat coming out of Calgary, and that the Bronks and Royals will surprise. There will be other teams in the AMBHL that will show well as well.

You can add Warkentine, Fiddler, McDougall, and Hanson as a strong group of 98s in the top WEHP from Prince Albert as well.

Also, North East WolfPack have 4 -97s in the top 150. Paziuk, Fiske, Seaman, and Zary. Stobbs is the lone WolfPack in the 1998s.

Yes, Prince Albert always has a strong Bantam AA program. Coffee row talk though feels they won't come out of the North this year.

Rural Manitoba regions are putting together AAA Bantam squads this year. At last years minor bantam directors cup both Wpg teams went 2-2 which combined the best kids from the 4 teams onto 2. Look for a rural team from Manitoba to top Winnipeg.

Campese played AAA with Mintos last night, there is rumours he could stay up with them.

Melville will be lucky to be top 9 in the south bantam league. I don't just say that to be smart either. Really, Melville, come on.
Prairie Storm and Weyburn will destroy Melville.

Anonymous said...

Alex Winter 1st overall

prince albert will be middle of the pack. they will not have the grit that they had last year. many players overated and a group of first years dressed in junior gear. the bigger teams and faster teams will have their way with them.

Anonymous said...

Besides Nagy who do they(weyburn) have upfront that can score??

3 decent dmen and 1 average goalie?Am i missing something?

OldGuy said...

OHA 8 Kamloops 1

Anonymous said...

Who does Melville have that is going to make them a Top 9 team? The ones returning from last year are good, but average players.

Anonymous said...

From what I have seen from the Weyburn group is they may not be superstars but their grit, determination and hard nose play will make them a hard team to play against.

Anonymous said...

Cole-f
Crane-f
Krecklewitch-f
two 98 dmen from caryle and taypotat in net

would be top six , which is a far better then weyburns no??

Nagy - f
Leslie-d

??? and and and

Anonymous said...

Nagy, Leslie, Hall, Fellner, Lenius, and Kowalchuk in net Those five will dominate Melville's top five all season long. The 98 D men from Carlyle won't know what hit them with the speed and hitting of Bantam hockey.

Anonymous said...

Still not sure why P storm is rated high unless im forgetting about some kids??

Riddle, Halabwachs, Murray and and?? :]

BWC - Should be top in BC lead by a stsr studded group Barzal, Ronning et al.

Semiahmoo, Cloverdale, BWC will cahllenge in lower mainland

POE - Should be a force in interior led by Browne et al

OHA - will battle with OHA for interior. Up front Fiust, Morrison and Clifford, Regan on D and Barry in net start out a power line up watch for them.

Kamloops, has Chyzowski up front and a clear first rounder on D in Davis. Shank will stop a lot of pucks in neta s there #1 goalie

Anonymous said...

Watched a lot of Tier 1 Bantam Hockey in BC last year and the Mainland/Challenge Cup this spring so familiar with most of the top kids. Who is Clifford? He a 98? Nobody has ever mentioned him. Must not be from the mainland?

Anonymous said...

9;12 is obviously from OHA as no one has heard of a couple of those kids.Quit fishing .Dont worry the scouts will find your kids even if they play AA like OHA.

Anonymous said...

6:58
He is a very small 97 Tier 2 third-liner from Kamloops
If OHA is counting on him as a top f to compete with POE and the d they have put together then oh boy!!!
Tier 1 Bantam is fast and physical. How do you compete if you are neither? Not suprised you are not familiar.

BWC released Eric Lee.Interesting??They must be deep on d.

Anonymous said...

Where's lee going

Western Elite said...

Lee is now on the BWC Tier 2 team. Jake Kryski, a promissing 98 born is on the Tier 2 team as well.

Anonymous said...

With the potent duo of seto and soy, one must not overlook the scoring and play making abilitys of cloverdale forward Jordan Funk, also another player to keep on your radar is the undersized Dylan Mccann who has speed that is almost unmatched by anyone in the PCAHA.

Anonymous said...

In addition to cloverdales firepower listed here. They have a few other very talented players that are going to make an impact, and make this a top hockey team

Anonymous said...

Lee is injured - he is out for another week and will then take his rightful spot on the AAA team - the BWC policy is that an injured player has to come back in the "B" pool and work his way up if he proves to have the ability to move up - not any doubt with Lee - he will be on the AAA team.
