The Prince Albert Venice House Pirates continue to roll this season with yet another tournament victory today in Prince Albert. The Pirates won both of their pool games, starting off with a 13-1 victory over the Winnipeg Bantam AA Sharks. In fairness to the AA Sharks out of Winnipeg though is that they were solely comprised of 97 born kids and even had a couple 98 born players on the roster. The Pirates then put up another double digit game in a 10-4 win over the Moose Jaw AA Warriors. In the quarter finals, the Pirates had a scare with a narrow 6-5 OT win over the fiesty Weyburn Redwings team. They then faced Martensville and handed them a 6-4 loss in the semi's en route to the final against the Saskatoon Maniacs. In the final, the Pirates were able to once again out-gun a team with a 6-4 tournament win and another championship.
All-Star Team as voted by WHL scouts in attendence:
Forward - Miles Warkentine
Forward - Ryan Duret
Forward - Kolten Olynek (scored 6 goals vs. Yorkton)
Defense - Jordan Harris
Defense - Ryan Pilon
Goalie - Rylan Parenteau
I hope to have more on the tournament hopefully tomorrow.

Also congratulations to Juan De Fuca, winners of the Rick Lapointe tournament in Victoria.

One more item this evening, the teams are set for the St. Albert tournament or the John Reid Memorial tournament if you will:
Airdrie Xtreme
Burnaby Winter Club Bruins
Calgary Bisons
Calgary Royals
Kamloops Jardine Blazers
POE
Notre Dame
Leduc Allen's transport
Phoenix Firebirds
Red Deer Rebels White
Seafair Islanders
Sherwood Park Flyers
Spruce Grove PAC Saints
SSAC Southgate Lions
Winnipeg Hawks
This should be a simply outstanding tournament with the top 4 teams from BC coming to the tournament. Notre Dame from Saskatchewan and the top team from Manitoba with the Winnipeg Hawks. Not to mention all the best AAA teams Alberta has to offer. This will be a tournament scouts certainly will not want to miss and I would expect St. Albert to be buzzing from January 20-23, 2011.

Keep a close eye on Adam Brooks/Winnipeg Hawks. He scored a short handed goal tonight(thanks to his big brothers great pass) to tie the game at 3 and won the shoot-out as the last shooter for the Hawks. Oh yeah did I mention that he was playing with the midget city team not his bantam 1 team. Boys out in the Peg are worth while looking at.
Players you have ranked for first round in the draft on Abby and Seafair need to be re-assessed. These teams cannot get it done against average competition in their league with their highly touted talent while players on BWC can't crack your top two rounds or even make your list. Don't the best teams also have some of the best players?
