Starting off in the PCAHA Flight 1 action. It was the Seafair Islanders running their record to 3-0-0 in league play with a 5-1 over Langley. Langley now is 1-3 and have scored just 5 goals in 4 games thus far. Tyler Sandhu for Seafair has only 3 points in league play but has racked up 55 pts in 26 games so far this season in tournament, placing and league play combined.
The Burnaby Winter Club Bruins have started league play off with a bang after rolling to a 8-0-0 record in placing. The BWC are 2-0-0 and have outscored the opposition 14-2 with a 9-1 win over Cloverdale and a 5-1 win over Surrey. Abbotsford is 1-1 with a 3-2 loss to Cloverdale and a 4-1 win over Langley. And it also a bit different seeing NSWC at 0-2-0 while not even scoring a goal yet!
Moving over to the interior, it is very much still a two horse race atop the standings. Kamloops is rolling at 7-0-0 and POE is just behind at 6-2-0. Kelowna and Westside are hovering around the .500 mark. Kelowna is doing it with defence and Westside with more of an offensive style led by Brett Mennear.
Kamloops Jardine Blazers are being led thus far by Ryan Gropp and Chad Butcher offensively this season. Gropp, who has made a few tournament all-star teams this season has 33-33-66 in 30 games and is also a whopping +60. Chad Butcher is close behind at 27-34-61 in 30 games and is a +51. On defence, Joe Hicketts, who we feel will be a Top 10 pick in May has 38 pts in 29 games and a +62.

Now to Alberta and the AMBHL. The Calgary Bisons were in action last night against their cross town rivals the Calgary Bronks. The Bisons skated away with a 7-2 win and were led by the line of MacMaster, Point and Mowbray. Mowbray had 4 goals, Tanner MacMaster had 1 goal and 6 assists! Brayden Point had 2 goals and 4 assists. The Bisons are now 14-3-1 and have scored 118 goals this season which is 23 more than 2nd place in goals scored Leduc. The Bisons are now a +47 in goals for and against which also leads the league. Individually, Point and MacMaster are both on track for 100 point season and MacMaster is on track for 65-70 goals.
In other action last night, Reid Duke and Kyle O'Connor each had a goal and 2 assists and goaltending Ruissen turned aside just 12 shots for the shutout as the Bisons beat Okotoks 6-0. Conner Bleackley for Okotoks was held off the score sheet which has been a rarity.
Taking a quick look over to the Calgary AA Bantam league we see 1997 born Braylon Shmyr leading the league in scoring with 17-12-29 in 16 games. Shmyr came over from the Vancouver area this past summer and is leaving many wondering why he isn't playing AAA in the AMBHL. He is definitely good enough, go watch the kid play! However, you can understand perhaps why he's not up with the AAA as he is an AP player with the stacked Calgary Bisons team.
Finally, in Alberta, in the SCAHL we have another 97 born making waves. Bow Valley star forward Ryan Barrow has 19-21-40 in just 16 games this season. Barrow tried out for the Airdrie Xtreme in the fall and was cut.

In Saskatchewan, taking a look at the GSHL first of all. The Kolten Olynek led Saskatoon Outlaws have started out to a 6-2-2 record and sit atop the standings tied with the very deep Saskatoon Maniacs. The Maniacs are also 6-2-2. Olynek who leads the GSHL in scoring with Collin Shirley close behind had a call-up last night with the Midget Saskatoon Contacts and was named first star in the game picking up a point in the loss. We expect the smallish 5'7 Olynek to be selecting in the top couple rounds.
Up north in the Centre Four Hockey League, the Prince Albert Pirates continued to absolutely run away with things. They are 10-0-0 and have scored 100 goals, while allowing only 27. The Ryan Pilon led Warman Wildcats are next at 8-1-1. Warman's only loss this year was a 5-1 opening day loss to Prince Albert.
Ryan Duret continues to run away with the league scoring race with a 13 point lead over 97 born Terrell Draude. Duret has 22-25-47 in 10 games. The weekend, Duret and the Prince Albert Pirates play host to the 0-9-0 West Central team.
Down in the south, the Zak Zborosky led Regina Senators are 8-3-0 to lead the south standings. Zborosky has 13-14-27 in 11 games, 3 points ahead of top prospect Rhett Gardner who plays on a struggling Moose Jaw squad. Interesting to note that Gardner has been in on 23 of Moose Jaw's 41 goals this season almost 60% of his teams goals! The Balgonie Prarie Storm remain the leagues only undefeated team with a record of 7-0-1. Balgonie has been having success with a well balanced team and a defence first style of play. However, their go-to guy is Keegan Milligan with 17 pts in 11 games. Also of note down south is that Dakota Odgers, who coming in to the season was expected to make noise as a high bantam pick. However, he has played just 1 league game this year, scoring 2 goals and is injured again and could be out a long time with surgury. Finally, in case anyone is interested Blake Penner would lead the league in scoring if his stats counted! He has 22-10-32 points. If you remember, he was named to the all-star team in Medicine Hat. Josh Uhrich and Ben Duperreault are also averaging well over 2 points per game.

In Manitoba bantam hockey, the Winnipeg Hawks keep on rolling as they defeated the Winnipeg Sharks 4-3 last night in a showdown of the leagues top two teams. The Hawks are now 10-0-2 in league play while the Sharks fall to 9-3-0. Adam Brooks has opened up an 11 point lead in the league scoring race over his team-mate Dallas Starodub. Brooks' 20 goals also lead the league by 7. The Brandon Wheat Kings continue to struggle with just 1 win so far this season and scoring just 25 goals. However, Brett Kitt is emerging as a bright spot for the team with his strong play.
Finally this morning, in the Parkisimo Bantam AA league, it is turning in to a three horse race at the top with Russell, Neepawa and Elkhorn. Neepawa is at 7-1, followed by the Jayce Hawryluk led Russell Rams at 5-0-0. Jayce Hawryluk is starting to put a few of his doubters in check now as he has scored 60 points in 12 games which includes tournament play. The Sanheim twins have Elkhorn in 3rd at 4-1-0. It is interesting to note that the Sanheims may be joining Jayce Hawryluk and the Russell Rams at a tournament in Saskatoon which takes place over the New Year's Day weekend. It will be a decent gauge to see how those players fit in with some of the top Saskatchewan born kids.

When the GSHL do not keep point totals for the players. WE would like to NO ,how do you know who is leading that league in points .Give us then the top 15 or so!!!!!
Don't get to hung up on stats. I have sat in the time keepers box enough to know that the refs are wrong about 30% of the time. It's amazing how many points are given to #'s that were not even on the ice, never mind mixing up the #'s that were on the ice.
I agree with the two above,then Western should not be putting players name when GSHL doesn't keep statistics. Trying to hype up a few players!!!!!
I don't mind the responses and posting that "anonymous" posters write in. However, I'm beginning to have a problem with players, coaches, parents and the updates that are supplied on are being mocked and torn apart.
Pretty soon, there are going to have to measures taken and those would include:
A. Having posters pick a username in order to post.
B. Us entirely blocking comments under the threads. Don't want to resort to that by the way.
C. Or we could stop the updating entirely.
Please keep in mind, everything we post on here is to update those who may not have the time to paruse the different leagues or have information at their fingertips such as we do here.

In closing this evening. Although stats are far from the final decision in determining draft a player. We do have access to all the statistics from each game in the GSHL. So we in fact do know who is doing what in terms of stats and who are leading in the various categories.

how about some news from the island?
Hawks/Sharks game could have went either way. Sharks had a slow start in the 1st. Sharks controlled 2nd and 3rd period and got into some penalty trouble which cost them the game. When both teams are at equal strength they are equal in just about every aspect except goal tending as the Sharks would have that advantage.
Agreed there has become to much Bashing of Players on here it is starting to look like the Hf Boards.This is a great resource to see how all teams are doing lets not abuse it
I think the annoying thing about this site is the promotion of players who are not going to get drafted. The parents of these players must be subscribers as that is the only way they will get mentioned as possible draft picks.
To see info on the teams is the only thing that really matters as it is the WHL teams that will decide who gets drafted when and where. Each team will have a different list and if you were to redo the draft a year later the draft order would be completely different.
Good luck to all the kids; play hard and most importantly have fun. Without fun it doesn't mean much.
