Zach Gonek scored 2 goals as the St. Albert Sabres ran their record to 21-6-3 with a 4-3 victory over Edmonton MLAC. The Sabres are now just 2 points back of SSAC for the division lead but SSAC hold two games in hand. Gonek now has 9-13-22 in 25 games this season.
The Calgary Bisons got 28 saves from Adin Hill and 2 goals each from Brayden Point and Landon Welykholowa in shutting out the Calgary Bronks 5-0. The Bisons now have a 6 point lead over the Calgary Royals and hold a game in hand as the season winds down. Point now has a league leading 89 points and his 39 goals place him 3rd. Point has a 4 point lead over the hard charging Airdrie forward, Tyler Wong who has 85 points.
The Calgary Royals kept pace with the Bisons in a 3-1 victory over the improving Calgary Northstar Sabres last night. Northstar Sabre goalie; Derek Mazil did all he could to hold his team in with 44 saves on 47 shots, which including 23 first period saves. Royals star forward, Reid Duke did not play in this one, either did Josh McCulloch. Kyle O'Connor led the way in their absence with 1-1-2. The 6'1 158lb O'Connor now has 15-12-27 this season.
And lastly from last night in the ambhl, it was the last place Medicine Hat Hounds defeating Lethbridge 5-3. For the Hounds, it was just their 6th win in 29 games this season. Carson Pickett, who should get drafted in May led the way with 2 goals. Pickett has a team leading 22 goals this season. Laramie Kostelansky had 1-1-2 for Lethbridge.

The Centre Four Hockey League provincial final began last night in Waldheim, SK with the Warman Wildcats upsetting the Prince Albert Pirates 5-4 in game 1 of a best of 3 final. The next two games will be played in Prince Albert, starting next Wednesday.

there will be only 1 more game in Prince Albert. Warman will be moving on. Pilon will go top 3 first round. He was a force, dominated PA's top players.

As good as Pilon is and was, goaltending was the difference in the game. PA's goalie struggled in the 1st (4-1 Warman after 1) and then rebounded.
Keewatin did what good goaltenders do stole game one.
2nd and 3rd was all PA as the only offense Warman got came from Pilon. When you are playing 50-55 minutes of a game fatigue will set in and this will be the Warman's coaches downfall, a tired franchise player.
Everyone likes an underdog and Warman has that going for them, just hope the coaching doesn't screw it up for all the kids.

Warman managed their bench quite efficiently. They came away with the win. It doesn't matter how they do it. Maybe "out-coached": they have improved considerably, where PA seems to have levelled off.

Forget the fact that all hockey is developmental until you reach the top. Also don't forget evidence and research says that less than 0.5% of kids playing minor hockey will ever play at the top.
I never saw the game so can't speak to this one inparticular, but have seen the Warman coaches do this every year they have been involved as coaches. They prove it year in year out their is no team in their game plan. Only thinking of 1) their own resumes and 2)the exceptional players on the team.
Let me finish by wishing good luck to the kids on both teams, because we all know who it is all about, right?
I was at the game. Pilon played more than anyone on both teams, no question. But the other lines were rolled out evenly, and scoring came from players who don't have the big numbers usually.
In no way were lines rolled out evenly, in this or any Warman game i've seen this season (and i've seen a lot). If you truly want to see a team that does roll its lines, watch a Martensville game.
I heard special teams were even maybe one PPG each. Also heard, Pilon had 2G, 1A; Draude 1G. 3 of 5 goals from the top 2 scorers for Warman, while PA's top line got 1 PPG. Territorial play was in PA's favour, as were the shots on goal.
No one questions that the best players on teams will play more, but is 50 - 55 minutes (as February 3, 2011 3:11 PM says) excessive? Thats for the their team and coaches to decide.
Adversity it only makes you better.
Injuries, flu/colds and fatigue at this point of the season is affecting teams everywhere. Lets hope for healthy teams for the next game as the next game should be a good one to watch. Wish I could be there. When is it? Maybe I can.
i hope were not hearing excuses now. all teams work through this, remember win as a team lose as a team. Or is that philosophy not being taught. hmmmm.
Does it matter the team for sask will win the right to get blown out at the westerns thats all!
Last year Sasks enrty played well and were never a threat.
Very well may happen, but the best of Saskatchewan seemed to excel in the summer hockey tournaments. and remember it takes alot of hardwork and consistent play represent any province.
