Prince Albert advance to the Saskatchewan Provincial Final

The Prince Albert Venice House Pirates finished off the Warman Wildcats Wednesday night in Prince Albert in the Centre Four Hockey League best of 3 final. The Pirates, who outshot the Wildcats 30-4 in the first period and 58-21 in the game scored early and often in this one. Lance Yaremchuk led the way for Prince Albert with 2-3-5. Ryan Duret (2), Warkentine, Kjargaard, Campese also scored for Prince Albert. Replying for Warman was; Draude, Farbacher and Clark.

The Warman Wildcats were without western Canada top 5 ranked defenseman and their captain, Ryan Pilon who is suffering from some concussion problems. The Pirates will meet the winner of the SSBHL vs. GSHL champion in the provincial final. Balgonie is currently playing the Regina Senators in the south final, while there are still 4 teams playing in the GSHL.

There was a fight late in the 3rd period in this one as Warman Wildcats defenseman Ashton Clark battled Breylan Fiset.

In an interesting side note, the two teams will play tonight once again in Prince Albert, in league action.

Not surprising Pilon gets injured when he is on the ice the entire game.

He was injured in the Humboldt game (where, true enough, he was playing too much). Still, this injury has to go on the Humboldt player who hit him from behind and the dwarf reffing the game who let things get out of hand.

agree- overplaying a kid is a big risk, especially when WAY OVERPLAYING a kid.

agree that the kid stays on ice waay to long- when play go's up ice he leans on his stick and looks like a rec player doing it as he is very tired-not knocking him in any way at all- this kid has size and talent- just calling it like a fan see's it- also agree about the dwarf reffing the game- he lets things get way out of control and he is always 5 steps behind everything- dont remeber seeing a hit from behind though

Lots of over-playing going on in the GSHL provincials too. Stallions Chartier playing pretty much the whole game.

Agree about both Pilon and Chartier. These coaches have to give more resposibilty to other players. I don't care how good you are you cant be effective playing a kid 45+ mins a game, not to mention the saftey issue. I was at Warman/PA game. Sure different hockey than GSHL games I attend. Way more physical. As far as that fight it wasn't much of one as the PA kid Fiset who plays physical all the time can sure back it up, me thinks hes been to that dance before it didn't look like his first time doin that.

Reports are that Pilons injury is cumulative, which will only be made worse by being overplayed. I would think rest over the this week and next week will have him good to go and ready for zone camp by next weekend. (This kid is as tough as they come.)

An aside to the hit in Humboldt; sounds like the play was penaltalized and the Humboldt coach almost popped a blood vessel as he screamed at the ref. Parent coaches, never, never a good idea!

Good luck to PA in the Prov finals.

Attended the PA and Warman games, Prince Albert has a really good team. I had only heard of the big guns Duret, Wakentine, Yaremchuk and Harris which is already a lot on one team, but their depth is incredible they will compete well against a lot of AAA teams. I had never heard of Kargarrd? or Fiset, both really good skaters that would stand out on most aa teams. I here that Hurd who was hurt is also strong. Way to deep for anyone in Sask to compete with. But because there Bantams you never know. All the best to Pilon the best player in the province hands down.

Agree, Pilon definitely best player in the province, bar none! He is a potential franchise player in the dub

Other tops kids from Sk include Oleksyn (skating needs lots of work, won't be a franchise player maybe a 3rd or 4th liner in dub, is probably done growing), Olynek (Phenomenal everything, except size which he cannot control), Gardiner (skating need work too, seem to come up short in tough games, physically matches up with any 96)

I think thats what makes the PA team so stron is the depth of the TEAM. The top players would not be having the success they have if it wasn't for the depth. Those non-role players deserve more credit. The big weakness that may come to bite this team down the stretch is the goaltending. They have no real starter and are prone to letting in soft goals. In the big game I am not sure they will be able to get the job done. Hopefully wrong, they look so good.

Funny thing about'giving credit' - ever heard the saying "there is no limit to what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit?" Some players may not get 'credit' in rink gossip and on message boards where it's 90% hockey parents tooting their own kids horns, but you can bet on a team playing to a true team concept, the contributions of ALL the individuals are valued, or they wouldn't continue to be successful. Once the individuals do start buying in to the talk, whether they are 'getting credit' or not, it's game over for the TEAM.

I agree totally. Thats why some kids and most parents shouldn't pay attention to the stats and which scouts are sitting in the stands. They need to do the math and realize that their is more to life than hockey. Parents need to make it real for their kids, tell them their is a strong chance that they will not get drafted. Even on some of these great teams one player may be selected. Does that make the rest losers, certainly not. They may very well have other opportunities to succeed at a high level of hockey.

12:09 pm,

Agree with you on Pilon being the top prospect in the province.

But...Oleksyn a 3rd or 4th liner? Maybe? Are you serious? What is this based on? Dominating the GSHL in his first year of bantam? Leading his team to win provincials? Scoring ALL the goals for his team at Westerns? Scoring at a point-a-game pace in midget as an underager? Yes, he has an unusual stride and doesn't fly around like Olynek (but then not many do), but he always seems to get where he's needed. And that's the big thing. So while, yes, top draft picks do sometimes flame out in the Dub (and he WILL be a high pick), i haven't seen anything from him that would lead me to believe he's a likely candidate for this to happen.

who cares where he gets drafted and what he's done prior. as long as he gets drafted it will be up to him to prove to his coaches he capable of playing. if that means first line, second line or third line. he got drafted which is a huge accomplishment. what he does after is where it counts most. that is when you see if they matured and are capable of playing at that level. it is sometimes better to be a 3rd or 4th round pick and develope than to be a first round wash that never pans out.

PA has alot of depth all around. They will use the last Provincial game to add to their team character. There was three fights and they steped up to battle together. TEAM......... to the finals.......
