The GSHL finals are set now as the Saskatoon Outlaws defeated the Saskatoon Generals 5-1 on Thursday night. The Outlaws win the 2 game total goal series 8-5 to advance. Their oppenant will be the Saskatoon Maniacs who finished off the Saskatoon Stallions last night winning 8-3 and taking the 2 game total goal series 14-11.
GSHL Final begins tonight at the Harold Latrace in Saskatoon and finishes up at the ACT rink on Sunday at 5:30.
Saskatoon Maniacs vs. Saskatoon Outlaws
-The Saskatoon Maniacs won the league season series at 3-1-3.
Their foe in the final to see who will meet the Prince Albert Pirates is yet to be determined as the Balgonie Prairie Storm is currently playing the Regina Senators. Game one of the 2 game total goal series went on Wednesday night with the Prairie Storm winning 6-2. The Prairie Storm who lost just once so far in the regular season play can wrap things up on Saturday and await the Outlaws/Maniacs winner. Cohan Yaho had 1-1-2 in game one of the series as did Gordon Wasteste.

In the AMBHL, several playoff matchups are set already heading in to the final weekend of the regular season. Here are some of the matchups:
Nitro North
St. Albert vs. Sherwood Park
-St. Albert totally dominated Sherwood park in the season series going 4-0-0 and not allowing a single goal, outscoring Sherwood Park 14-0 in the 4 wins.
SSAC vs CAC or KC
-For KC to get in the playoffs, they will have to beat both SSAC and Spruce Grove over the weekend and have CAC lose their final game. So it looks like it will be CAC. SSAC went 4-0-0 and outscored CAC 29-11 in the 4 wins.
Charger North
Nothing is really settled at all in this division as just 1 point separates Spruce Grove and Leduc for first place. Spruce Grove who sits one point back can control their own destiny as they have 2 games remaining and Leduc has just 1. Spruce Grove will play KC and CAC so they are both winnable games. Leduc finishes up against SSAC. Lloydminster is going to finish 3rd and will see who finishes 2nd, likely Leduc. Camrose makes the final playoff spot in 4th place.
Challenger South
The Bisons have locked up first place and the Calgary Royals second place. However there is still an outside chance the Calgary Bronks could move to 3rd place over the Calgary Northstar Sabres with a pair of weekend wins over Red Deer White and MH but they would need the Sabres to lose both of their weekend games against Red Deer Black and Airdrie. So it is likely we'll see this:
Calgary Bisons vs. Calgary Bronks
-The Bisons went 4-0-1 against the Bronks and outscored them 29-15 in the 4 wins.
Calgary Royals vs. Calgary Northstar Sabres
-The Royals won the season series but the games were pretty close. The series went to the Royals 3-1-1 but only outscored the Sabres 20-17.
Ram South
The playoff matchups are set in stone in the Ram South. Here they are:
Airdrie Xtreme vs. Red Deer Black
-Airdrie dominated Red Deer Black going 3-0-0 and outscored them 20-2.
Red Deer White vs. Lethbridge
-The 3rd place Lethbridge team beat the Red Deer White squad 2-0-1 and outscored them 8-5 in the season series.
**I will have a huge in depth look at each series, including scoring leaders head to head and team stats when the matchups come final after Sunday. It will either be on the blog or in the newsletter on the 15th.

Saskatoon teams need to go hard as this, by the sounds, of it will be their last kick at provincials. The release on SHA website says that only the teams in the new bantam league will have the honour of playing for provincials and the right to call themselves bantam champions.
As it should be! Why Saskatoon does not buy in is unthinkable Calgary did what saskatoon is doing for years and only watered down its teams in doing so It would be great to see Bc and Sask to follow the ambhl and have 3 leagues of great play in the western provinces. Instead of league filled with a few great players and a bunch of very average players. All the best should play in one league
A very good game between Surrey and CHWK last evening. Could have been anybody's game. Fast and a good clean physical game.
Watching the ambhl south this season, I will make a prediction for the playoffs:
Bisons over Bronks in 2; Sabres over Royals in 3, Airdrie over Black in 2, White over Lethbridge in 3;
I then think White over Airdrie in 3 and Sabres over Bisons in 3; Sabres over White in 2...
Sabres to the provincials...
My 2 bits...
That is funny about the Sabres let me know who you are I will give you 5to 1 on that prediction.
I do like the Sabres to beat the Royals but last game when the Bisons pushed back in the third they were totally out matched. They also wont beat Airdrie this weekend.Red Deer white Bisons final then flip a coin
The Bisons may have pushed back, but the Sabres have them figured out... The Sabres are better coached and work as a team consistently. The Bison's play, while deadly, it is spiratic at best. Over a series I see the Sabres consistency paying off.
Interesteing take on the AMBHL South Playoffs, here is my take; yes I know anything can happen:)
Bisons vs Bronks - Bisons in 2
Royals vs Sabres - Royals in 3
Airdrie vs RD Black - Airdrie in 2
RD White vs Lethbridge - RD in 2
2nd Round
Bisons vs Royals - Bisons in 3
Airdrie vs RD White - Airdrie in 3
3rd Round
Bisons vs Airdrie - Bisons in 4
As I see it any of the series that I have picked a team in 3 games is really a saw off, but you gotta pick a team.
I think there is going to be some great hockey played in the next few weeks.
comment 3.... Agree with you 100% but did you not see the 2 hit from behinds that should have both been 5 minutes and a game misconduct for checking from behind. (Willcox was on the recieving end of both) Very physical and few large scrums/fights. i don't know how the fight/scrum started after surrey's first goal.
Ambhl North.
SSac will beat either CAC or K.C in 2 games, Sherwood Park will lose in 2 to St.Albert. Should be a hard fought series in the second round but St.Albert does not have much scoring up front to compete against SSAC. SSAC in 2 games.
Spruce Grove will just get by Camrose in 3 games,Leduc is the wild card, If they play as a team, they should beat Lloyd in 3 games, but thats a big if. Leduc and Spruce Flip a coin.
SSAC will win the final in 4 Games.
Only Sabres and royals have a chance to take the bisons but i say the bisons don't lose a game until they play the north rep
Can't disagree. It should be SSAC vs. St. Albert and Leduc vs. Spruce to get out of their respective divisions. I see Spruce in 3 games over Leduc as Leduc is their own worst enemy. I understand St Albert played SSAC very close in their last game with a 1-1 tie right till the closing minutes. The game was finally decided over a couple of late penalties against St Albert but I agree with the previous post that SA struggles with scoring which will probably make the difference in a series. I see SSAC taking it in 3 with SSAC ultimately taking the North....and Alberta titles.
Quick question: Who do you think has loked better this season and who will get drafted higher, virtanen or sandhu?
Virtanen hands down
To 9:21 am,
Just curious. Are you recommending an AMBHL system for Saskatchewan because it's more entertaining for the spectator? I'll admit it, it just might be. Of course, if we did go that way we'd likely stop being the top provider, on a per capita basis, of elite talent in western Canada. Yes, better than Alberta. Seems like too high a trade-off to me.
Virtanen has the ability to beat 5 guys by himself and score, So virtanen i would say is better, but sandhu plays like a 2 way forward. Virtanen should go top 5 overall in draft, while sandhu will go late first round.
who do you think the top 5 will be?
Saw Sandhu in St Albert. Did not see anything close to a "2 way forward" as you describe. Looks like he has some skill but have to question the compete level and work ethic for sure. Was not impressed at all.
here is my OPINION on the top 5 drafties:
1. Ryan Pilon - Dominant player
2. Tyler Wong - Knows how to score
3. Joe Hicketts - Very physical and smart
4. Jake Virtanen _ Most skilled player in draft
5. Braden Oleskyn - Great player
Hollyburn 5 Richmond 3
Saskatchewan's elite talent was blanked 4-0 buy Alberta at the Winter Games.
can someone from the website post your e-mail i would like to get a hold of someone regarding the newsletter...

hollyburn, 5th place!!! only beats 13 place by 2 goals!!! Holy Cow!
Keep in mind though that Hollyburn only won 5 games during the regular season.
good point, i hate the sportmanshiip points!
Sportsmanship points are a joke. PCAHA and the setup of the league and playoffs is a joke. Tiering is a joke. Not having playoff series that are a best of 3 or best of 5 is an injustice to the teams and the players. No offense to the teams that play to get the sportmanship points but hockey at the rep level is about wins. Standings should be based on wins. Playoffs should be based on regular season within a balanced leugue schedule that rewards the top teams. Have the top 8 make it and play best of 5
the PCAHA allows a teeam to only play 2 games a week, with week starting on a monday and ending on sunday. That means 3 weeks are required. the 4 point series gauraentees a week and no longer than 2. I also hate he sportmanship points, but if you were to have the sportsmanship point, make teams are allowed 12 minors a game, and a the part that should be removed is any misconduct means no sportsmanship point, i hate, at 2 min CFB should make you loose the point.
Sandhu was the best player on ice tonight for Seafair against Burnaby Minor
buddy, that is burnaby minor, i'd rather know how he played in st. albert, in the recent 3-1 loss the BWC....games vs. Good teams cause a top 5 pcik should be able to score a few goals and make plays and be a huge threat every time he steps on the ice against good teams too. what was the score in the game though?
Nice to hear ,maybe he can start enjoying the game again and put all the BS he has gone through behind him.Keep ur head up kid.
we rip on the kid too much, after all he is just 14 years old and does go to school.
