The D scoreing % can be very miss-leading as a D may get a good # of points but if their +/- is crappy an they give up alot in their zone how does that help the team. Kellog is a fantastic hockey player and as a 97 he will dominate next year. He will need to learn job of defeding as his team gave up a ton of goals this year.
Appreciate the breakdown- It is a great illustration and levels the playing field quite nicely. When you look at the range in goals scored per team the points can be a bit misleading. Maybe I am old school but as the 1:33 pointed out It would be pretty dang valuable to have +/-. I know it is a controversial stat but that is how games are won and lost. I am sure that player evaluation that would include how effective they are witout the puck would be icing on the cake. Thx.
great breakdowns,I agree that it levels the field and gives an interesting new perspective. thx
It really shows that players with the Majority of there teams goals are most likly one line teams
Agreed on the +/- stat. It's a stat that is rarely collected at this level but can really help to understand the overall contribution of the player. Sure, it's impacted by who they play with, did they just get on the ice or just get off the ice, etc., etc., but the 'regular time' +/- stat, collected over the course of the season, is telling. I know of some players, with good scoring records, are actually underwater in their +/- stat because they are on the ice for a lot of goals against - i.e. don't contribute defensively.
As far as D, this is one of the few relevant stats you can actually use. When is the league going to require collecting this information?
+/- tracking would be a nice stat to have, but given how many mistakes are made by officials just on goals and assists there is no way you could have accurate +/- tracking.
Agreed it's tough but like you said, they make many mistakes on goals and assists but still feel that it is an important stat to capture. It should all work out in the wash over the year.
I know that quite a few AMBHL teams do and have tracked +/- internally. Teams have these numbers, they are just not published. The Coach's do use these stats as part of their overall player evaluations for game situations.
WEHP?????????? What are Sandhu's stats through twenty games??!?!?!?!?!?!
Mr WEHP,
Your math is incorrect. You have taken the number of POINTS a player has and divided it by the number of GOALS scored. According to your numbers, 107.8% of the Bison goals were scored by 2 forwards and a D. So Conner Bleackley scored 20.9% of the team goals,OR got 68 of 272 team points which is 25% of the team points. And the AMBHL Scoring leader scored 19.4% of the teams goals OR 102 of the teams 525 points for 19.4%.
You are looking at it the wrong way.
Example:
Player "X" has 5G and 15A for 20Points. If his team scores 100 goals on the season, then player "X" was involved in 20% of the teams goals.
to 735. What mr WEHP is doing is illustrating what % of the goals a player is "in on" (total points for player divided by total goals scored by the team) . If u would like to get crazy you could subtract the goals scored in games the player missed. However I think it is good enough to give the picture. This is the only way u can do this while including assists. So u r right the sum total will be over 100%. What u are referring to and what would add to an even 100 is what % of the goals an individual scored.
The way WEHP has done this is very representative to allow for playmakers as well as shooters.Hope that makes sense.
I believe from what I have seen in these stats is that what WEHP has done has taken the total goals scored by the team and divided the total points(goals and assists) the individual player has. The stat concludes the percentage of goals that the individual player was "in on" not necessarily percentage of "goals" that they scored for the team.If player A had 20 points and the team scored 200 goals the conclusion would be 10% of the goals scored player A either scored or assisted. The percentages will not add up to 100% as it is not just goals that he utilized in his calculation. This is strickly percentage of contribution to the final number of goals. So the math is right based on that formula.
I watched Aaron Kellogg play throughout the year. His +, -, stats for the year he would have the highest + on the team hands down. Even logging a lot of minutes on the penalty kill as they were a poor team who took an abundance of penalties. He is by far the most talented defenceman for his age in Western Canada. He can score, defend, and is the fastest skater on the team, even with his size. Looking forward to watching this young man in the future.
In regarding " Kellogg being able to defend - team gave up a lot of goals". His team had some of the worst goaltending in the entire league. Check out the stats on goaltending, they don't lie. An NHL defense core could not have prevented scoring with their goaltending.
What does PK have to do with plus/minus? You don't get a minus for PK goal against. How quick we are to throw team mates under the bus in 12:11pm
WEHP!!!!!!!! YOU gave us Sandhu's stats through ten games, at 10-4-14. WHAT are his stats through 20 games????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!1
for those of you who do not know how plus minus works here it is: If team A is shorthanded with TEAM B on the powerplay, and TEAM B scores, that does NOT affect anyone's plus minus on the ice. If TEAM A scores while shorthanded, then they all get PLUS for those that were on the ice and The TEAM B players once ice get a minus. 5 on 5 play is if team A scores on TEaM B , team's players one ice go plus and TEAM B's go minus. Penalty shots do not count. If a goal is scored even strentgh into an empty net, plus minus is in effect like a 5 on 5 situation.
How does this work, pauls is up there with a high percent and he ony had 47 points well bauer had 72 and isnt up there?
Same with Shaw only 11 points and no goals and team didnt make playoffs. Lots of other deffensemen with more points and better players.
Pauls is closer to 26 and not 46%
If WEHP missed players that are better than the ones listed, then post up the info!
Players name, team he plays for, his number of points divided by the number of team goals will give you the percentage.
kale clague lloyd 20%
connor james lloyd 19.67
wehp offers alist and some of you have to see if your boy is on it even though it has nothing to do with whether or not or where they will get drafted---scouts don't use this list for their draft benefit and while i can't speak for wehp i think he would agree on that--if there are 150 on the list at least 100 are correct to be somewhere in the top 150 at least on the list--but if you don't agree with the list then that is your perogative---but don't attack wehp and he can't justify every pick to ease the pain of your son or son's friend not being where you think he should be---do you expect wehp to molify every individual who's kid plays Bantam in western Canada as to where and why they are where they are---what are you paying ---$10? look at it out of interest and haave a great time discussing it with your friends...you and your friends fight it out but hassling wehp and his pick makes no sense...i don't know anything about the guy but i take his picks with a grain of salt...i havent even seen the list because i don't care a lot and my son is not on the top 150 96's anyway..it is for interst sake anyway...you probably only know who the very top players are anyway and the people in your small hockey circle so how can you think 1 boy can be better than a boy 2 time zones away?
Evan Reid had the same number of points as Greydon Robinson for the Calgary Royals, would he also not have been at 11.8%?

Probably anybody who is not related to Greydon.
