April Fools Truths

The U16 POE will get underway today at the MTS iceplex.  The tournament will feature 8 teams using the names of Manitoban born hockey stars such as Team Barker, Boyd, Howden, Eakin, Hamonic, Helm, Pickard and Toews.  This will be the last chance for players in the province to impress scouts prior to the May 5th bantam draft.  All eyes will be on Jordan Thomson who played midget hockey with the Southwest Cougars in the Manitoba AAA Midget league.  The 6'0 170lb Thomson held his own and then some scoring 2-14-16 in 40 playing against players 2-3 older than him.  Thomson added 1-3-4 in 11 playoffs games.  Other players that will be watched closely are Bantam A1 scoring leader Adam Brooks, Brett Kitt from Brandon, Jayce Hawryluk who played AA with the Russell Rams, the Sanheim twins from "A" Elkhorn and big 6'1 225lb Taylor Fisher who led all Bantam AAA defenseman in scoring.

Stay tuned throughout the weekend for comments from the players and updates on who is doing what.
