March 2, 2011 newsletter is now ready!

In this edition of the newsletter, we make major changes to the 1996 born list prior to the provincial camps. The list changes include interviews and meetings with our WHL sources and our scouts as well.

I had a chance to speak with a big, power forward from Washington State who looks like he could be a first rounder and dominant WHL player down the road. I also spoke with a Saskatchewan elite talent, who is a goal scoring wizard having scored 40% of his teams goals this year. I also spoke with a pair of BC PCAHA talents in one of the top defenseman and a forward who is the captain on his team and certainly raising some optimism.

I also preview the AMBHL Conference Finals as SSAC takes on Leduc and the Calgary Bisons play the Red Deer Rebels White.

......................
Alberta
The 2nd round of the AMBHL playoffs are fully underway and there have been some casualties already.

SSAC defeats St. Albert 2-0
The St. Albert Saints who had a very successful 23-7-3 regular season, while allowing a league low 76 goals, weren't able to muster up enough offence to beat the North's top team in SSAC Southgate. Southgate had a very impressive 26-4-3 record and scored the 3rd most goals in the entire ambhl, while allowing the 2nd least at 78.

In game 1, SSAC Southgate got 20/21 saves from Jordan Papirny and 1-1-2 from Quennville and defenseman Zach Patterson en route to the 3-1 victory. Andrew Kary had the lone goal for St. Albert and Patrick Gora turned aside 33/36.

In game 2, SSAC once again held St. Albert to a single goal in a 4-1 victory to wrap up the series and advance to the north final. Jordan Papirny turned aside 17/18 and Riley Simpson picked up 3 assists in the victory. Bryar Ortynski picked up 1-2-3 and Brock Rezansoff scored twice.

Leduc defeats Spruce Grove 2-0
High powered Leduc was able to sweep defensive minded Spruce Grove. In game 1, Leduc defeated Spruce Grove in Spruce Grove 4-2. Leading the way for Leduc was Graydon Smith with 2 assists. Calgary Bisons defeat Calgary Royals 2-1
After falling behind in the series with a 4-3 OT loss to the Calgary Royals, the Bisons were able to win the final 2 games to advance to the south final outscoring the Royals 11-4.

In game 1, Kyle O'connor had 3 assists and Jordan Evans a pair of goals in the 4-3 OT victory. Ryan Graham scored the OT winner for the Royals and Jacob Ruissen stopped 37/40 shots. Reid Duke was held off the scoresheet. For the Bisons in the loss it was Adin Hill stopping 36/40 and Brayden Point scored 2-1-3, while Mowbray had 1-1-2. Tanner Macmaster was held off the scoresheet in the loss.

In game 2, the Bisons were able to force a 3rd and deciding game with the Royals with a 3-1 victory. Alex Mowbray scored the GWG late in the 2nd period and Tanner MacMaster added some insurrance in the 3rd for the win. Brayden Point chipped in with 1 assist and Adin Hill turned aside 35/36 shots in the win. The Royals lone goal was scored by Tyler Rohl and Reid Duke picked up 1 assist.

In the 3rd and deciding game, the Bisons walked away with a convincing 8-3 victory to advance to the south final. The Bisons would jump out to a 6-0 early 2nd period lead and the game would never be in doubt. Brayden Point had 3-1-4 and Tanner MacMaster had 2-2-4 in the clinching victory. Adin Hill stopped 45/48 shots. For the Royals, Reid Duke scored twice and Jacob Ruissen stopped 24/31.

98 born Jaeger White finishes with record 124 goals

A player who is sure to make waves in the ambhl next season will be 98 born Jaeger White of the Medicine Hat "Sports Connection" Venom. He rouned out his season this weekend playing three games in three days and figured in on 13 of his teams 16 goals in scoring 10 and 3 assists. White, the brother of '10 WHL first round bantam selection of Moose Jaw, Torrin White scored a league record 124 goals and assisting on 24 others. His 124 goals are almost 30 more than the record previously held by Airdrie's Ty Rattie. Jaeger White won the league goal scoring race by 57 over Bow Valley's Dillon Dube, who will likely join Airdrie next season.

Sunday, February 20 Red Deer Black stuns Airdrie

The AMBHL playoffs continued over the past couple days with a few series ending. Some very surprising in terms of outcome while others not so much.

In Calgary, the Calgary Royals were in need of a victory to stay alive after falling 4-3 in OT to the Calgary Northstar Sabres on Wednesday night. On Saturday, after trailing the Northstar Sabres 4-3 just 2 minutes in to the 2nd period, the Royals were able to reel off 8 straight goals and take this one 11-4 to tie the best of 3 season at 1-1. For the Royals, it was Josh McCulloch scoring 3 times in the victory. McCulloch was 2nd in team goal scoring in the regular season with 22 in 33 games. Igor Stakic had 1-2-3 and Kyle O'Connor scored a pair of goals as well for the Royals. For the Northstar Sabres, it was Kyler Nachigall scoring twice and Devin Nemes picking up 3 assists. Nachtigall and Nemes were 2nd/3rd respectively in team regular season scoring. The 3rd and deciding game go's on Sunday afternoon.

In Lloydminster, the Leduc Allen's Transport squad made very short work of Lloydminster, eliminating them from the playoffs on Saturday. Leduc outscored Lloydminster 18-6 in a pair of victories. This coming after Lloydminster surprisingly took the season series 2-1 and outscored Leduc 16-14. On Saturday, it was Kord Pankewicz scoring 4 times and Trevor Posch scoring twice in leading Leduc to the win. Evan Polei had 1-2-3. The key for Leduc is their balanced scoring attack and if they can keep the goals against down, they have just as good a shot as anyone. The Lloydminster goalies let up 7 goals on just 33 shots. Leduc will move on to the division finals to play either Spruce Grove or Camrose.

In Camrose AB, it was Spruce Grove needing a victory to stay alive and they got just that with a sound 4-0 victory over the 4th seed Kodiaks. Thomas Foster once again led the way for Spruce Grove with a hat-trick and one assist and figuring in on all 4 markers. Foster now has 6 points in 2 playoff games. Line-mate Matthew McNeil had a goal and 3 assists. McNeil had 2-1-3 in the season series, while Foster had a pair of goals in the 3 games head to head. Foster led all Spruce Grove players in regular season points with 32-21-53. Goalie J.T. Barlett turned aside all 24 shots in the shut-out effort. Barlett had a .930 save percentage in head to head with Camrose this year. Game 3 go's Sunday morning back in Spruce Grove. The winner takes on Leduc in the division final.

In an all Edmonton battle, it was no surprise that Edmonton SSAC defeated Edmonton CAC in two straight games to advance. Edmonton CAC had a very young team and will no doubt be a team to beat next season in the ambhl North. SSAC got goals from 6 different players in this one though en route to a 6-1 series clinching win. Quennville had 1-1-2 in the game. Quennville who finished in the top 5 in league scoring has 2-3-5 in 2 playoff games. Jordan Papirny stopped 27/28 shots. SSAC will play St. Albert or Sherwood Park in the final. St. Albert does lead their series 1-0 and can close it out on Sunday.

In Red Deer, it was Red Deer Black stunning one of the south favorites Aidrie Xtreme 4-3 to knock Airdrie out in 2 straight games. If you remember, Airdrie rolled over Red Deer in the regular season 3-0 in the season series and outscored them 20-2. This has to be very disappointing for Airdrie who had designes on going far this year. Red Deer Black got goals in this one from 4 different players, including the eventual game winner from Gabe Bast in the 3rd to go up 4-2 at the time. Bast had just 3 regular season goals. He also added an assist. Goalie Joey Desrosiers stopped 39/42 shots. In the regular season against Airdrie he stopped 44/47 in a game. Colby Chartier scored twice for Airdrie. Tyler Wong was held to just 1 assist. Red Deer Black will play Red Deer White in the south final.

In Lethbridge, Red Deer White will advance to play Red Deer Black in the division final as they out-lasted Lethbridge by a score of 4-3 in triple Overtime on Friday. Lethbridge was trying to stay alive and held a 3-2 lead in this one until the 14:59 mark of the 3rd period when Matthew Krusky scored to tie it up and force OT. The teams would play in to the 3rd overtime and then at :55 seconds of overtime 3, Chase Thudium scored the series winner. Ty Mappin had a pair of assists, including an assist on the GWG. Mappin finished the 2 games with 2-4-6. Cavin Leth had 1-1-2 for Lethbridge. Jonathan Hogue did all he could to hold his team in it for Lethbridge stopping 52/56 shots.

In Calgary, the Bisons defeated the Calgary Bronks in a 1980's style of game, winning 10-7. The Bisons take the series in 2 straight while racking up 18 goals. The lethal duo of Brayden Point and Tanner MacMaster each scored an impressive 3-3-6 in the game. Both Point and MacMaster have each 4-5-9 in 2 playoff games this year. Alex Mowbray had 1-3-4 in this one. Bisons goalies turned aside just 37/44 shots they faced. For the Bronks, team leader Sam Young had 2-2-4 and Zach Finlay also scored a pair in the loss. Goalie TJ Cairns let in 10 goals on 55 shots. Calgary will advance to play either the Northstar Sabres or Royals in the division final.

-------------

In Winnipeg, it was the Winnipeg Hawks flexing their muscle with a 14-1 victory as league play winds down in that league. Adam Brooks scored 3-2-5. He now has 52 goals on the season. Adam Wowryk and Dallas Starodub each scored twice as well. Dane Schioler picked up 6 assists, giving him 10-51-61 on the season and placing him 2nd in league scoring, 27 points behind Adam Brooks. The season wraps up this weekend with the Hawks playing the Warriors.

Playoffs are set to begin on Thursday with the Hawks taking on the Monarchs and with the Warriors playing the Sharks also on Thursday. Game 2 action go's on Saturday. Both series are best of 7 matchups and will take place at the Ed Golding arena in Winnipeg.

Friday, February 18, 2011

The AMBHL playoffs resumed Thursday night with a trio of games.

In Spruce Grove, the underdog Camrose Kodiaks skated away with a 5-4 victory. The outcome may come as a suprise to some people given the fact that Spruce Grove finished in 1st and had 21 more points than Camrose during the regular season. However, the season series was just 2-1 for Spruce Grove and they outscored them only 11-9 which must've given Camrose a level of confidence. Leading the way for Camrose were Cloutier, Ternes and Kirkland all with 1-1-2. Kirkland led Camrose during the season series with 1-3-4 in the 3 games. The game winner came from Jordan Holmes with just 5:57 remaining in the 3rd period. Goalie Travis Child turned aside 29/33 for the win. Child had a .906 save percentage in the season series vs. Spruce Grove. For Spruce Grove it was Michael Cardinal scoring a pair of goals while Thomas Foster had a pair of assists. Cardinal led all players with 1-3-4 in the season series. Matthew Meek-White stopped just 16/21 shots he faced. Meek-White let in 6 goals on 24 shots in his regular season matchup with Camrose while counterpart J.T. Barlett had a .930 save percentage. Game 2 go's Saturday in Camrose.

In Airdrie, a huge shocker in that the Red Deer Rebels Black defeated the heavily favored and top seed in the division 5-4 in OT. Airdrie had won the season series 3-0-0 and outscored Red Deer Black 20-2 in the three games they played so it seemed atleast on paper that they should be able to role over Red Deer Black. Get this, leading the way for Red Deer Black was 1998 born Tyler Steenbergen with 3 goals, which also included the OT game winner. Steenbergen had 13-9-22 in 33 regular season games, not bad for a 98 born who should be playing peewee hockey! Dylan Houston finished with 1-2-3. Houston was the team scoring leader this season with 14-16-30 in 33 games. Tyler Wong led Airdrie with 1-2-3. Wong was 2nd in the ambhl scoring race this year with 101 points and in the season series against Red Deer Black, Wong had 6-7-13 in 3 games. Shots were 34 apeice. Game 2 go's Saturday afternoon in Red Deer and game 3 if needed go's back in Airdrie on Sunday.

Finally from Thursday night it was Red Deer White all over Lethbridge 6-0 in Red Deer. Lethbridge had won the season series 2-0-1 but Red Deer was the higher ranked team heading in. Red Deer White was led by team scoring leader Ty Mappin with 2-2-4. Mappin had 37-34-71 in the regular season which was 34 more points than anyone else on his team. Shots on goal were 49-22 for Red Deer White. Goalie Jayden Sittler turned aside all 22 shots for the shutout. Red Deer can wrap things up tonight in Lethbridge.

--------------

In the SSBHL from Wednesday night, the Balgonie Prairie Storm who will play the Saskatoon Maniacs for the right to play the Prince Albert Pirates in the SHA Bantam Provincial final upped their regular season record to 15-1-2 with a 9-2 victory over Moose Jaw. Jordan Ross, who has been on quite the tear as of late scored 4 times in the victory and 97 born Jayden Halgewachs continues to improve by scoring 1-2-3. Jordan Ross now has 16-21-37 in 18 league games. Halbgewachs, who should be a high pick in the 2012 bantam draft has 35 points. For Moose Jaw, Rhett Gardner who has mainly been a one man show in the Jaw scored a goal. Gardner is expected to be picked in the top couple rounds in the draft. Gardner has scored 25 of Moose Jaw's 70 goals and has been in on 39 of the 70 goals or 56% of the teams goals. Moreover, he has scored 36% of his teams goals.

The AMBHL playoffs are now fully underway with half of the series having begun.

In Edmonton, the SSAC took a 1-0 series lead over Edmonton CAC in a battle of 1st vs. 4th. SSAC rolled to an easy 7-2 victory, out-shooting CAC 50-16 in the process. Riley Simpson, the son of former NHL player and HNIC color man Craig Simpson led the way with 2-1-3. All indication are that the younger Simpson will be taking his talents south of the border. Simpson had 11 points in 4 games in the season series vs. CAC. Team scoring leader, John Quennville had 1-2-3. Quennville had 8-6-14 in 4 head to head meetings. 97 born Giorgio Estephen had 1-1-2. SSAC defenseman Kyle North received a 10 minute and a game misconduct in this one. Game 2 go's Friday at the CAC rink.

In Leduc, the Allen's Transport who lost the season series to Lloydminster 2-1, were able to score 9 times en route to a 9-4 convincing victory. In a game were the score was 4-1 after 2, Leduc erupted for 5 goals in the first 12 minutes of the 3rd to take a 9-2 lead and cruised from there. Leading the way for Leduc was team scoring leader Liam Gregor with 3-1-4. Gregor had 4 goals in 3 head to head matchups this year and finished 8th in league scoring with 30-38-68. Braden Jakubowski had 1-2-3 and defenseman Kord Pankewicz, who will be a first round pick in the bantam draft finished with 1-1-2. Leduc goalie Nolan Kruizenga turned aside 14/18 shots. For Lloydminster, defenseman Conner James had 2 goals to lead the way. James had 5-19-24 in the regular season and 5 assists in the 3 head to head matchups. Lloyminster welcomed back skilled 97 born forward Andrew Koep but he was held scoreless. Game 2 go's Saturday at the Lloyminster Civic Centre.

In Calgary, it was the lower ranked Calgary Northstar Sabres upsetting the Calgary Royals 3-2 in OT. The Royals won the season series 3-1-1 and were undefeated in the past 4 meetings. For the Northstar Sabres it was Justin Peers playing the role of hero scoring the OT winner just 50 seconds in to extra time. Peers also had 5 pts in 5 head to head meetings this year. Franco Colapaolo had 1-1-2. Northstar Sabres goalie Derek Mazil who played in all 5 head to head meetings and had a .902 save percentage turned aside 33/35 shots. For the Royals, it was Danton Oliver scoring both goals. Oliver had just 8 regular season goals. Kyle O'connor picked up a pair of helpers. Reid Duke was held off the scoresheet for the Royals and picked up a slashing and charging minor in the 3rd period. Game 2 go's Saturday afternoon in Calgary where the Northstar Sabres can wrap it up.

Finally, the Calgary Bisons rolled over the Calgary Bronks 8-2 in another 1st vs. 4th game. The Bisons were 4-0-1 in the season series and averaged 6 goals per game in the meetings. The Bisons were led by defenseman Brycen Martin who scored 2-2-4. Martin has a good chance to be selected in the first round of the bantam draft. Martin had 42 regular season points to lead all regular defenseman in the ambhl if you don't include Kord Pankewicz who played forward for a good chunk of the season. League scoring leader Brayden Point had 1-2-3 as did Tanner MacMaster. Point and MacMaster combined for 28 pts in the 5 head to head meetings vs. the Bronks in the regular season. Game 2 go's Saturday afternoon.

The Red Deer Black vs. Airdrie and Camrose vs. Spruce Grove series begin tonight. Same go's for Red Deer White vs. Lethbridge. Sherwood Park vs. St. Albert won't start until Saturday.

Valentine's Day Notes....

Manitoba
Starting off in the Winnipeg Bantam AAA league, the Winnipeg Hawks got back to their winning way with a pair of victories against the two last place teams in the division.

First off, they began the weekend with a 7-2 victory over Brandon. Brandon is now 2-26-1 and sit in last place. For Winnipeg, it was Adam Brooks scoring his 46th and 47th goals of the season and Dallas Starodub adding his 22nd and 23rd. Ingimundsen picked up 3 assists from defense for the Hawks who improved their record to 23-2-1. For Brandon, it was team scoring leader Brett Kitt with 1-1-2 in the loss.

Brandon was back in action on Saturday against another of the Winnipeg teams in playing the Monarchs. The Monarchs erupted for 7 2nd period goals en route to the 8-0 victory. That win pushed the Monarchs in to a 3rd place tie with the Winnipeg Warriors and a chance to avoid playing the Winnipeg Hawks in the first round. For the Monarchs it was Ezra Hall scoring twice, giving him 14 goals. Daniel Kennedy had 1-2-3. Brandon falls to 2-27-1 and Winnipeg are 14-9-2.

Finally over the weekend in the Winnipeg league it was the Winnipeg Hawks running their record to 24-2-1 in defeating the 6-19-2 Interlake Lightning 10-2. Adam Brooks had 2-3-5, pushing his league leading totals to 49-33-82. His 49 goals have him 18 goals ahead of 97 born Dallas Miller and his 82 points are 29 ahead of team-mate Dane Shioler. Gritty forward Nico Lisi had 1-3-4 and now has 11-25-36. For Interlake it was once again Clay Tait scoring both goals, giving him 13-15-28.

-------

A look over at the Eastman Bantam AA League and we see the Southwest Jets running away with things in their hopes to make it to provincials. They are currently at 18-1-0 and average well over 5 goals per game. Alex Tetrault is leading the way with 19-29-48 The only other team playing above .500 hockey are the Morden Hawks who are 14-4-1. They have allowed just 29 goals in 19 games this season.

In the Parkisimo Hockey League, it is the Russell Rams led by Jayce Hawryluk and David Dunn running away with the standings at 18-0-0. Both Hawryluk and Dunn should go in the first few rounds of the bantam draft. Nipping at the heals of Russell are Elkhorn who are 17-2-0 this season. Of course Elkhorn is led by the Sanheim Twins. If you remember the Sanheim twins joined Russell for a tournament in Saskatoon over the New Year's Day weekend and really were successful.

Saskatchewan
In the South Sask Bantam League, it was the Balgonie Prairie Storm punching their ticket for a date vs. either the Saskatoon Outlaws or the Maniacs with a 4-2 victory over the Regina Senators. The Prairie Storm who hold the league's best regular season record were led by Jordan Ross who scored 3 times and 97 born Jayden Halbgewachs with 2 assists. Halbgewachs leads all playoff scorers with 5-7-12 in 6 games while Ross is 4th with 5-5-10. An area of concern despite the win for Balgonie was going 0/13 on the power-play. The winner of the Balgonie/Saskatoon series will go on to play the power house Prince Albert Pirates in the provincial Final.

For those of your interested, the Sask First dates and rosters are now available on the SHA website. I plan on doing a more in depth look at the 8 zones a bit later this week. In the mean time, here is the link to the rosters: http://players.sha.sk.ca/sask-first/12-u16-sask-first-bantam

Friday

The GSHL finals are set now as the Saskatoon Outlaws defeated the Saskatoon Generals 5-1 on Thursday night. The Outlaws win the 2 game total goal series 8-5 to advance. Their oppenant will be the Saskatoon Maniacs who finished off the Saskatoon Stallions last night winning 8-3 and taking the 2 game total goal series 14-11.

GSHL Final begins tonight at the Harold Latrace in Saskatoon and finishes up at the ACT rink on Sunday at 5:30.

Saskatoon Maniacs vs. Saskatoon Outlaws
-The Saskatoon Maniacs won the league season series at 3-1-3.

Their foe in the final to see who will meet the Prince Albert Pirates is yet to be determined as the Balgonie Prairie Storm is currently playing the Regina Senators. Game one of the 2 game total goal series went on Wednesday night with the Prairie Storm winning 6-2. The Prairie Storm who lost just once so far in the regular season play can wrap things up on Saturday and await the Outlaws/Maniacs winner. Cohan Yaho had 1-1-2 in game one of the series as did Gordon Wasteste.

-----------------------

In the AMBHL, several playoff matchups are set already heading in to the final weekend of the regular season. Here are some of the matchups:

Nitro North
St. Albert vs. Sherwood Park
-St. Albert totally dominated Sherwood park in the season series going 4-0-0 and not allowing a single goal, outscoring Sherwood Park 14-0 in the 4 wins.

SSAC vs CAC or KC
-For KC to get in the playoffs, they will have to beat both SSAC and Spruce Grove over the weekend and have CAC lose their final game. So it looks like it will be CAC. SSAC went 4-0-0 and outscored CAC 29-11 in the 4 wins.

Charger North
Nothing is really settled at all in this division as just 1 point separates Spruce Grove and Leduc for first place. Spruce Grove who sits one point back can control their own destiny as they have 2 games remaining and Leduc has just 1. Spruce Grove will play KC and CAC so they are both winnable games. Leduc finishes up against SSAC. Lloydminster is going to finish 3rd and will see who finishes 2nd, likely Leduc. Camrose makes the final playoff spot in 4th place.

Challenger South
The Bisons have locked up first place and the Calgary Royals second place. However there is still an outside chance the Calgary Bronks could move to 3rd place over the Calgary Northstar Sabres with a pair of weekend wins over Red Deer White and MH but they would need the Sabres to lose both of their weekend games against Red Deer Black and Airdrie. So it is likely we'll see this:

Calgary Bisons vs. Calgary Bronks
-The Bisons went 4-0-1 against the Bronks and outscored them 29-15 in the 4 wins.

Calgary Royals vs. Calgary Northstar Sabres
-The Royals won the season series but the games were pretty close. The series went to the Royals 3-1-1 but only outscored the Sabres 20-17.

Ram South
The playoff matchups are set in stone in the Ram South. Here they are:

Airdrie Xtreme vs. Red Deer Black
-Airdrie dominated Red Deer Black going 3-0-0 and outscored them 20-2.

Red Deer White vs. Lethbridge
-The 3rd place Lethbridge team beat the Red Deer White squad 2-0-1 and outscored them 8-5 in the season series.

**I will have a huge in depth look at each series, including scoring leaders head to head and team stats when the matchups come final after Sunday. It will either be on the blog or in the newsletter on the 15th.

Prince Albert advance to the Saskatchewan Provincial Final

The Prince Albert Venice House Pirates finished off the Warman Wildcats Wednesday night in Prince Albert in the Centre Four Hockey League best of 3 final. The Pirates, who outshot the Wildcats 30-4 in the first period and 58-21 in the game scored early and often in this one. Lance Yaremchuk led the way for Prince Albert with 2-3-5. Ryan Duret (2), Warkentine, Kjargaard, Campese also scored for Prince Albert. Replying for Warman was; Draude, Farbacher and Clark.

The Warman Wildcats were without western Canada top 5 ranked defenseman and their captain, Ryan Pilon who is suffering from some concussion problems. The Pirates will meet the winner of the SSBHL vs. GSHL champion in the provincial final. Balgonie is currently playing the Regina Senators in the south final, while there are still 4 teams playing in the GSHL.

There was a fight late in the 3rd period in this one as Warman Wildcats defenseman Ashton Clark battled Breylan Fiset.

In an interesting side note, the two teams will play tonight once again in Prince Albert, in league action.

The Calgary Royals will have to settle for 2nd place in the Challenger South as they tied Red Deer Black 3-3 Sunday. The 1 point gives the Royals 44 points which is 5 back of the Calgary Bisons but the Royals have just 2 games left. Red Deer Black has a 4 point lead for the 4th and final playoff spot over Medicine Hat in the Ram South. Medicine Hat has 2 games in hand. However, Medicine Hat still has games left against the Bisons and Airdrie. Leading the way for the Royals today was Reid Duke with a pair of assists. In the CFHL today, it was Humboldt getting 5 goals from Reid Gardiner to give him 42 goals in 21 games this season in a 6-6 tie against Melfort. The win moves Humboldt 2 points ahead of 3rd place Warman in the league standings. Warman does have 2 games in hand. Melfort got 1-2-3 from Rylan Freed. Freed is in the top 5 in scoring and his 36 goals are 23 more than his next closest team-mate in 97 born Caleb Seaman who has 13 goals. Gardiner's 42 goals are 17 more than his next closest team-mate Austin Dyok who has 25.

Prince Albert Venice House Pirates have defeated Warman today in game 2 of a best of 3 league provincial rep final. More to come on this later or tomorrow.

Weekend action

Saskatchewan
There is just over a week of action remaining in the SSBHL regular and Balgonie and Weyburn continue to win league game action. But first from Friday night, the Notre Dame Hounds played another exhibition game, this time against a very young Yorkton team and came away with a 6-1 victory. Josh Uhrich had 1-3-4 and Ben Duperreault 1-2-3 to lead the way. Duperreault's 48 points are just 6 behind Penner for the team lead. Josh Uhich now has 41 points in 20 games and a team leading 53 pims.

Notre Dame played Saturday as well vs. another very young team, against Melville. The Hounds outshot the Millionaires 29-13 and won the game 4-1. Leading the way for the Hounds was Ben Duperreault once again with 1-1-2 and Jeremiah Addison had a pair of helpers. Tyler Krekelwich scored the lone goal for Melville.

On to league play from Saturday, Weyburn defeated Swift Current 4-2. Weyburn now has a league leading 29 pts at 14-4-1 and hold a narrow 1 point lead over 2nd place Balgonie who have 3 games in hand. Swift Current is having a good season at 11-5-2 but with just 2 games remaining, don't have a chance at top spot in the league standings. Nicholas Pouliot was once again the catalyst for Weyburn with 2-1-3 and for Swift Current, Tim Vanstone notched a helper. Both Pouliot and Vanstone are tied for the league lead with 43 pts. A far cry from last season when Cory Milette, Ty McLean and Tim McGauley all put up nearly 100 points.

In a game between a pair of teams who have had their struggles this season, the Regina Canucks skated by Moose Jaw 5-2. Moose Jaw is 4-13-1 and Regina Canucks are 5-11-2. Brody Neilsen, Drew Bundus and Taylor Hoedel each had 1-1-2 for Regina. For Moose Jaw, Rhett Gardner scored both goals and now has 19-11-30, he has a 13 point and 7 goal lead over team-mate Braydon Delorme for team leads in those categories.

It was the Balgonie Prairie Storm running their record to 13-1-2 with a 10-4 victory over the 7-10-3 Regina Hurricanes. Jordan Ross had a huge game with 2-4-6 and outstanding 97 born Jayden Halbgewachs had 3-2-5 who were 3/5 on the PP. Regina was led by team leading scorer Mitchell Lipon with 3 assists.
