In the Winnipeg AAA League, it was the Winnipeg Hawks running their record to 22-0-1-1 with a 3-0 victory over the Winnipeg Warriors. The game remained scoreless until the 3rd period as Ty Edmonds and Reid Pennington were locked in a goaltending battle. Both Edmonds and Pennington are in the top 3 in GAA. Adam Brooks broke the tie with his league leading 41st of the season with just over 7 minutes left in the 3rd and Dallas Starodub added some insurrance a couple minutes later. Adam Brooks salted it away with an EN goal, his 42nd.
The Winnipeg Warriors would bounce back the next day and take it out on last place Brandon 9-3. Brett Kitt led the way for Brandon with 2-1-3, he leads the team in scoring this season by a healthy margain. For Winnipeg, it was defenseman Taylor Fisher with 3-2-5 in the game. Fisher now leads all defenseman in scoring with 17-27-44, which places him 2nd in league scoring and he has 62 pims.
Brandon was back at it yesterday and had a bit closer game with the Winnipeg Monarchs, falling 5-2. Kitt scored again for Brandon, who has a team leading 9 goals in 24 games to go with 20 points and 84 pims. For Winnipeg it was Hopfner with his 7th and 8th and Liam Kroeker picked up a couple points and leads the team with 29, which is 11 more than 2nd place Ezra Hall.
Saskatchewan
In the GSHL, it was the Martensville Marauders upsetting the first place Saskatoon Outlaws 7-3. Carter Amson led the way for Martensville with 2-1-3. Amson should go in the top 5 rounds of the bantam draft. Kolten Olynek figured in on all 3 goals for the Outlaws.
In the CFHL, the Melfort Mustangs fell to the Humboldt Broncos 5-3. 97 born Caleb Seaman, the brother of Brandon Wheatkings forward Tyrell Seaman scored twice and Rylan Freed continued to pile up the goals with another, his 35th. Reid Gardiner, a possible first round selection in May, scored all 3 goals for the Broncos.

In the SSBHL, the Weyburn Redwings defeated Moose Jaw 6-2. The regulars Nicholas Pouliot and Trey Tendler once again led the way. Tendler had 2-1-3 and Pouliot 1-3-4. Tendler and Pouliot are 1-2 in the league scoring race.

Re-capping some of the highlights quickly in the AMBHL, it was the Calgary Royals scoring 11 times over Medicine Hat yesterday in an 11-1 win. The Royals firing 59 shots in the process. The game got a bit wild in the 3rd period with 3 fights at about the midway part of the period. Reid Duke had 2-2-4 and Greydon Robinson along with Josh McCulloch each scoring twice. Reid Duke was also one of the fighters in the 3rd. The final shots were: 59-10 for Calgary Royals.
Edmonton SSAC outshot Edmonton CAC 52-15 in a 9-3 victory on Sunday. Simpson, Ortynski and Quennville all scored twice for SSAC and Simpson added 4 assists for a season high 6 points for him. Bryar Ortynski added helpers for a 5 point game. It is still unclear as to if Simpson will choose the WHL route or follow his brother Dillon and his dad Craig and take the NCAA route. SSAC scored 6 goals in the 3rd in this one.
The Calgary Northstar Sabres continue their recent hot play. Fresh off an 2-1 upset victory over the first place Calgary Bisons, they walked past the Okotoks Oilers 6-1. Big Erik Krienke had a pair of assists and Devin Nemes had 2 goals in the win. Kyler Nactigall had 1-1-2. The Sabres are now back to .500 with the pair of weekend wins.
Spruce Grove PAC was upset by Lloydminster yesterday by a score of 6-3. Spruce Grove was without 3 players; Hanas, Helt and defenseman Jamie Vermeulen. Zach Sylvestre led the way for Lloydminster with 2-2-4, he now has 19 points. 97 born forward Andrew Koep who has 22pts in 21 games this season continues to be hurt. 1998 born defenseman, the only one in the league had 2 more assists to give him 8-18-26 in 28 games along with 68 pims. Is there any doubt about him going in the top 3 in the 2013 bantam draft?

Chad Butcher continues to lead the league in scoring if you combine tournaments and regular season scoring. Butcher has 56-67-123 in 51 games. Joe Hicketts is a +97 on the year and Ryan Gropp has 53 goals for Kamloops.
The International Children's Games were taking part in kelowna over the weekend. A few of the bantam teams from the OMAHA were taking part, including: Kelowna, POE and Penticton. Both Kelowna and POE finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. The tournament featured other bantam teams from Windsor, Coquitlam, Austria and Germany.

The BWC played 3 games in 3 days and did not allow a single goal over the weekend has to be the highlight of the weekends action in the PCAHA.

Also beating Kelowna 9-1 in there last league game on Wed.
Congratulations to the Airdrie Jr. Flames with their success over Grand Prairie and the Calgary Bronks over the weekend. Surprised they pulled out with 2 wins while playing 2 Vs 5 all game. That team is not going anywhere until they become a TEAM!
BWC home games are the absolute worst for inconsistent and unfair officiating this season. It is no wonder they have won so many home games this season with few goals scored against them. Many of their home goals are scored on PP opportunities and most of the games are 5:1 penalty ratios against the other team. This is based on observational facts not opinions.

What happened in the Royals_Med Hat game? From looking at the on line game sheet, all fights and more ejections were all at the same time. Looks like a line brawl??
I want BWC to lose as much as the next hockey parent but my son's team actually played them at BWC and BWC lost their sportsmanship point. According to the PCAHA website, they get more penalties at home. They have won every game away from home too. I can at least admit they are fun to watch. Quit making the rest of us sound like whiners.
Two 96 kids got called up from Bantam ,to play for the Saskatoon AAA Blazers ,Collin Shirley and Adam Santoro and they did pretty good . The Blazers did lose 4 to 2 to the Regina Canadians .
Just a quick comment on Brayden Point - the goal he scored on a 1 on 2 yesterday was f*uc$ing SICK!!

Had a chance to watch the Vernon vs. Penticton game. It was quite a barnburner with both teams playing well. Vernon tied it late on a mad scramble in front.
I am a BWC parent. I've never said anything on this blog before but enough is enough already with the "BWC wins because of refereeing." If I had a nickel for every time I heard that...boy o boy. Get a grip, really. You do realize that refs are assigned and governed by PCAHA and come from everywhere, right? It's not like we have our own pool of "Homer" refs that just pop in to officiate our home games to help us win.
Honestly, I'm sorry if I come across as being rude but I've been to many, many games over the years where officiating left something to be desired and, as a result, one team did manage a win here and there but this is certainly not the case with BWC this year. Have they had a few calls go their way?, sure but so has all their opponents. The team generally dominates most of the competition, not because of officiating, it's because they are skilled, fast and impeccably coached. Nothing else. Period. And believe me- speed draws penalties. Sorry but it's a fact. If you want to argue that the team is better than most because the players generally come from many different areas, then that's another topic that I can't argue. One thing for sure, you are not alone in wanting us to lose.
I'll bet there's more than a few refs who worked some of those games that would love to see BWC lose too!

Actually it's flattering so many parents of opposing players detest us .I used to be one of those .but in all honesty it's because we wish our kid's were so effective and skilled as those players.it's because they are so well coached to be team first and not individuals.it's because they know lack of discipline hurts the team and results in sliding to the end of the bench.who knows maybe Goliath will fall but never without giving their all.that's what this club breeds.....competitors with hearts of lions.
Had the pleasure of watching BWC in St Albert this Jan. Their top players are very skilled and they do have some average players. The thing that caught my eye while watching them was their unselfishness....if you are open, you will get the puck. It did not seem to matter who you were or what skill level you were at. Can't say that about too many BAAA team that I have watched this season. Also they have a deadly PP...Great puck movement and passes were on the tape.....very well coached. By the way...I am an Alberta parent.
To be honest they dont really have any stand out 96's. They all just play as a team .
I will second the comment on Brayden Point .The earlier comment is an understatment if it was taped it would be a youtube moment! The most unreal goal I have seen in anygame this season. This kid is fun to watch.

No standout 96 born players on BWC? Why would you say that? Define standout. I would agree that there are a couple of very talented 97 born players on that team but there are 96's who are also very talented players. I believe they clinched the banner last night with a win over S Delta. No surprises there I guess but you don't go an entire season without a loss on the backs of a couple of talented 97's. I'd have to humbly disagree with you.
Do non-standout players get drafted? I guess we'll see if the "no standout" poster is right come draft day.
Might be a couple of parents that wake up with a "BWC Kool-aid" hangover the day after.
I agree that bad officiating happens everywhere as there is still no consistency. Bad officiating both wins and loses games for teams. However I have consistently observed one official who wears the stripes at BWC home games who is always very chummy with the players, coaches and parents after the game. My observation.
As for the other comments I believe that BWC does have some talented 96's that may be chosen on draft day but many players on "pay to play" teams usually do get drafted.
Pay to play! Do you really think scouts give a damn what parents paid? Honestly. Are you saying the more you pay the more likely you'll get drafted?
I still wonder why all the kids are hung up on draft and WHL.NCAA is far better route to go for your future.

enough already! I suspect that it's more the parents hung-up on the draft than the kids.
I am glad that my kid has the maturity and foresight to focus on his school work (and being a kid of course) with the NCAA route as his goal.

Let's dispel the theory that BWC has refs in their pocket at home. I took the information off the PCAHA website. During tiering and league play, they have played 13games at BWC and 13 games away. BWC has received 147 minutes in penalties at home and 90 minutes on the road. They have lost their sportsmanship four times at home and lost it on the road for the first time last night in South Delta. Teams playing at BWC have lost their Sportsmanship point four times as well (exactly the same number of times the home team has lost it). Twice they have received zero minutes in penalties but both times it was on the road (Abby and Surrey). If those refs are homers, then they should play away from home more often. What you have is called delusional paranoia and it can be treated. The numbers don't lie.
So are you saying you DON'T want your son to get drafted?
Reffing is spotty everywhere. Just part of the game.
I could not agree more with the officiating fiasco in minor hockey, or all hockey for that matter these days. I know officials try to do the best they can but with the introduction of the new rule emphasis a few years back there is absolutley no consistency in officiating anywhere from game to game or from official to official.
