AMBHL All-Star Game....South 6 - North 5 OT

A Ty Mappin goal was the OT winner as Team South defeated Team North in the AMBHL All-Star game this afternoon. Mappin added a pair of assists as well in the victory. Reid Duke scored a pair of goals, Tanner MacMaster had 1-1-2 and Taro Hirose had 1-2-3. Team North was led by Nicholas Jones from KC who had 3 goals, while recently converted defenceman, Kord Pankewicz had 1-2-3 in the game.

The teams will spend the night in Lethbridge due to poor travel conditions.

Who stood out on F/D?

On the AMBHL box scores, they didnt list the shot numbers. How did the goalies look?
Good for Nicholas Jones with the hat trick.

Doesnt Matter some of the best goalies were not there.

Who were these goalies who weren't there??

Johnathan Hogue from Lethbridge is easily the south's Best Goalie. In the North all 3 Goalies were deserved to be there, but one goalie from the north who could've been there is Nolan Kruizenga from Leduc, but Leduc plays a run gun style game so Nolan's GAA just isn't there.

Agreed that Jonathon Hogue is the better goaltender from the south. The problem is his stats just don't match that.

Who do you think stood out on defense?

I am so impressed by Leduc player Kord Pankewicz !!! Great game Kord !!

11:25am - your comment on Hogue is a stretch! I would place him in the top 5 in south, even that is a push. If your mad that your kid - I mean the kid did not go to the all star game that is too bad.
The All Star game topic has been beaten to death on this blog site.
Hogue has never been the best goalie in the south division of the AMBHL or the SCAHL, that is not to say that he is bad goalie. I think he is very good goalie, more importantly 2 or 3 years down the road he will most likely have a bigger impact in his ranks. Stay objective!

4:23 PM. Hogue is not my kid, and I am objective, He is the best I have seen from the south, the Top goalies in this league are all in the NORTH.

How do you think the south defence compared to the north? I realized that Kord was very effective for the north? Who else stood out? I though Martin started out a little shaky, but ended up putting together a good game and Hermus and Melzer had a decent outing as a pairing.

6:33PM Sorry for my last comment - your entitled to your opinion, I suppose you very little about hockey and even less about goaltending :)

Who are the top Forwards and D-men in AMBHL?

Anonymous said...

Note that Reid Duke did not score 2 goals for the south. He only had one. Carson Pickett from Medicine Hat scored the first goal for the South.

You have an all -star game or so called you dont have the leading scorer in the entire ambhl in it. You have a goalie who has yet to lose a game not in it.Not sure how you select the teams but the term allstar is laughable. As for your Goalie list 2 of your top 3 on your list did not attend the some stars game. The ambhl goes with 11 forwards at this game in the future they should go with 12forwards 4 lines and that would allow the coach one coaches pick it would save some embarssment.

How do they select the allstars in the AMBHL (I'm from Manitoba) ???
Have to agree it is no allstart game if the leagues leading scoring isn't in their. But look at the MLB's 2010 home run derby. Jose Bautista, league's home run leader wasn't in it, but some of his teammates were. Funny how people think these days.

Each AMBHL coach sends one forward from his team while the top teams get to send a d-man as well. Each team (north and south) has 11 forwards and 6 D. Three goalies per team are selected based on stats. The two leading scorers both play for the same team, both have lead the league at one time or another.

Stupid all star game.
