Vancouver Selects Blue suffer blow before Subway Classic

The Vancouver Selects Blue will have to do without one of their key performers in Winnipeg at the Subway Classic. Francis Bamford suffered a separated shoulder last weekend. Francis will see a physiotherapist early next week to determine the extent of the injury. More will be know at that time. It is not believed to be serious.

Hope Bamford is OK. As I said on one of my other posts, I believe alot of the BC players are over-rated as a group. The players of the Vancouver Selects struggled against the Sask Huskies (who were struggling themselves) and Sask Jr. Blades at the Challenge Cup. The difference is that none of the Sask Huskie players or Saskatchewan players in general get anywhere near the attention that the BC players get. Yet they have good success against the BC teams.

This will be a major loss for a team that struggles to score Banford is a highly skilled player with lots of speed The selects will need others to step up. Banford may end up being a small man but he is one of those kids they plays well despite his stature

Yes,Bamford, will be missed in Winnipeg. After watching this team play in the Mainland, Calgary Champion's Cup and Challenge Cup this team has obviously underperformed with all of its top players silent. It should be noted that Dombrovskiy, BWC's top '96 defencemen went down with a broken clavical in the second frame of the second game against the OKS squad at the Mainland and finished with a tie 5-5 after leading 3-1 when Dombrovskiy went out. Since his return the team has played with greater confidence at the back end during the Vancouver Selects Tournament and has sparked brilliant performances by Jake Virtanen who was without a doubt the tournament MVP.

I realize this tournament did not feature a strong field, but the Blue team out performed OKS 5-2 in round robin play and 6-0 in the final. They won all their other games by healthy margins as one should expect. Riley Stadel was solid as usual, while Dombrovskiy was +7 in the tournament. Selects scored 23 times and only allowed 8 goals. We will see if this PCAHA team is as weak as some of you think they are. I'm not sure either, they have much to prove in Winnipeg.
