What did Abbotsford show in the last week that justified them moving up the rankings? First, they lost a league game to Cloverdale. Then, in the opinion of many people at the tournament, they rigged it to make the finals and couldn't even get to the semis. They are rewarded for that? By the end of the year, I expect they could bring it together enough to be in the top ten but so far, it seems they are there on potential. There are lots of teams who have the results, not just a good game here or there. Seafair were dropped to make room for them but at least they are undefeated in league play. Both did not have impressive tournament results.
abby has a weekend that teams would consider a complete failure and they re-enter the rankings?what is the connection with this site and abby?
After the top 7 teams in the latest rankings, there are as many as 8-10 teams you can basically lump together in one group.
In terms of Abbotsford specifically, they were grouped with what we consider below average squads this year. They were able to go 3-0-0 in those games. They then had a very disappointing loss to kelowna 4-3. Kelowna likely isn't even in the top 3 teams in their 6 team league. However, Abbotsford did show something in a 7-2 win over the Calgary Bronks and a big 4-3 win over POE. POE is a very talented team. So one loss in the tournament to a Kelowna team who got hot and went to the final isn't really all that terribly bad.
Kelowna went to the final and they aren't ranked as of yet. They will have to prove they can beat Kamloops and POE before that can happen.
Abbotsford will likely be a top 3 team in their league this year.
What happened to POE at this tournament?
They should have beat St.Albert,were in the game against the bisons. Back to Back tourneys?
St Albert won 6 straight games against some very good teams. Given the scores in all the games I don't think it was luck and we should give them all the respect they deserve - no sour grapes about what should have been.
Kelowna has beat POE 4-2 and they came very close to beating kamloops in their own tournament (2-1 loss). We should see them be in the top 5 teams in BC as they have beat cloverdale 3-2 in the Kamloops tournament.
Kelowna beat POE because they (POE)had 4 players out (3 with injury and 1 under suspension. The day before the players had to do lunges until they couldn't do them any more and many were hurting bad the day of the game.
Inspite of this, POE manned up and played the game anyway rather than pulling the stunt Kamloops did the weekend before Med Hat.
Dont forget Kelownas losses to Penticton, mission. I believe Kelowna also lost 7-0 to POE in a game that meant something.10-2 against ST.Albert?
Abby is a good team and it is too bad that they or should one say their parents do not believe in them enough to put out a respectful tournament schedule. It was good karma at the end. Kelowna should be given credit for their success but let's keep in mind that the results would likely have been very different if they were in a different pool and pathway created in that tournament.
POE played their All-Star goalie against the Bison’s and lost and then went on to start their non-starter against St Albert and Abby.
Interesting strategy...
FYI;
The pools were not created by any of the parents on the Abby team.
I would just like to say that as other people have said, Kelowna has beaten POE, although yes, they were hurting, but a win is a win, as well as cloverdale, and a very close game against Kamloops.
Yes, they have lost to penticton, and westside, but if you are going to rank teams based on potential (eg abbotsford) then they deserve to at least be an honorable mention. When they play well, they absolutely dominate. Consistency comes in time to a team like that, and they always seem to play better against better teams.
Players out due to injuries...yep I can sympathize ...but lunges until you can not move the day before a game... sorry but that would be a conversation with your coaching staff?? Hope the investment is worth that type of "off ice training"
Kelowna may not be as consistent as other teams but they can compete with the top five teams in the provience of bc.
Kelowna will only keep getting better, they have the grit and deserve the respect. Good Job Rockets for placing 2nd in Abby!
I sure here a lot of excuses from the parents of POE! Bottom line is you keep losing! Your not that good!
11:48am I'm not sure POE parents are dishing out alot of excuses. When you say that not that good; compared to what? They are a top AAA Bantam team. Are they best team? No. Good squad with very good coaching, I'm thinking with the amount of ice those kids see they will be a stronger team come the tourney in Saint Albert.
Trivia Question:
What coach had a 0.408 percent win average as head coach of the Port Alberni Bulldogs (BCHL) 2006/2007?
Google says David Whistle...
Posters;
I don't mind some friendly debate under the posts that are made here. However, I really don't want each post to turn in to a battle of who is better than who and individual bashing and bashing hockey programs etc.
Enjoy the hockey everyone.
Trivia Question:
What coach had a 0.408 percent win average as head coach of the Port Alberni Bulldogs (BCHL) 2006/2007?
Response;
I'm glad you asked that question, I happen to be from Vancouver Island - I'm not sure how to respond to ignorant question/comment..........
That squad had a poor record, I don't believe that team under acheived. Victoria, CV and the Clips had very strong teams, infact the island division was strong then.
If you were Google some more you would see there have been alot of good coach's that poor records, that's obvious.
Where does your kid play? You seem kind of bitter???
I am beginning to think that maybe the 96 parents are crazy.. I heard it it around the rink and never believed it until now...
They are just kids. Give credit where credit is due and don't go making lame excuses when its not...lunges???
OK well Kelowna just beat Kamloops 7-4 and completely outplayed them. Ranking anyone?
