In this edition of the newsletter, major adjustments made to the 96 born rankings. After attending the Medicine Hat tournament, we had a chance to discuss the list with various director of player personal people resulting in some changes at the top and some new additions. Included is a new #1 player.
We also take a look at the top 75 for the 97 born. Some players are really starting to assert themselves at the top.
I had a chance to speak with a Saskatchewan born kid who hopes to mirror his WHL brother's defensive while adding a bit more offence. He's on track.
Also, I spoke with a small, talented captain from the Calgary area whose size doesn't hold him back.
Last but certainly not least, a talented defenceman who took his game from Vancouver Island to the interior of BC to one of the best hockey programs in western Canada.
The Regina and Medicine Hat tournaments are now complete. We run down the all-stars and MVP's and winners.

your list is getting very strange anyone who played in medhat went up and those who didnt went down your #1 pick droped to 4 all other who were not at Med went down your list is good but how do you justify it seems the scout you talked to like them big the forward from Kamloops you kidding right

2:44 pm - your comments are right on about who played in Med Hat and who didn't and these kids moved up and down. Please realize this; I have bought this newsletter for more of an entertainment purpose.
This list is not the "list" I will give 1 example - Brayden Point will not be going in the 2nd round. He will go in the first round and my statement is no great vision, it's obvious. More importantly depending on who you know in the business some will discredit the website a little bit and some completely, just stating facts. If you have a kid who has a 1996 birth year, do not worry about this list or draft, just help your kid to develope and the people who know the business will pick up on the right kids -- as a rule!!! Don't lose any sleep over this list. Best of luck to your kid.

Great player with TONS of talent. One of the most talented kids in the draft next spring.
Terrible as it is, will be LUCKY to be drafted in the second round. It would be a miracle for him to go in the first round.
People just don't get it.
The first round is reserved for the kids with the best combination of size skill and skating ability and hockey sense. If you are missing ONE of those pieces, you will not be drafted in the first.
That is not a slight to any of the players out there, it is the bitter reality.
2 years ago, Brandon Magee OWNED the ambhl. He went #84 overall in the 4th round.
Small skill players still get drafted, but later.
You can develop a players skills, but now matter how hard you try you can't make them grow.
Smaller skilled players have it tough, they are forced to prove themselves over and over again. Too bad really, but that's the way it is.
7:27 pm you are right lots of smalls guys go later, some don't. Point is small, he will be a 5'8" to 5'11" guy; the reality is there is not 21 or more kids with more talent on this years draft, secondly there not to many kids that process the game as well as he does, not even in the high midget ranks. Also, when it comes to potential he could become unreal. That being said, maybe he will go the Jr A route then to NCAA. To think that Point would go in the 2nd round is silly to say he would go in the 4th round is,,,,,,,, far fetched at best. Please show me the 25 - 50 players that are better.......
And yes I do know Brayden, my son has played against him and with for many years, Pointer gets it.
I hope he gets drafted to a team in the east.
So Point dropped a few spots, big deal, it sounds more like Daddys pride is what dropped! The kid is a good player, let's leave it at that!!
For the record I would be more than happy if Brayden was drafted 2nd round or drafted at all for that matter.My pride for my kid doesnt drop because of a # posted beside my sons name. I would agree with the comment about Magee and as a 16 year old he is playing in the WHL .Alot drafted ahead of him are not when the smoke clears the players who want it the most will play.Where and if you are drafted has little to do with where you end up.

Its funny how you think I was talking about the Kid, What I said was he dropped a few spots and he is a good player, my point was you parents are taking these rankings way to serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A few interesting posts and all very valid in there own way.
First off, Brayden Point is perhaps the most talented player in the draft, there is no doubt about that. However, let me point out to you that in last years bantam draft Nic Petan was very similar in talent and the way he played and he barely made the first round, going late to Portland. Whether we like to admit it or not, size will play in to the fact in the draft. We have spoken with several WHL personal who even have him lower than where we have him. Fact of the matter is though, some team may like Point so much that they don't want to wait until late first round to snatch him up, same go's for Tanner MacMaster!
Also remember, the season is still very young and these players are progressing at very different rates. We do our best to reflect the many opinions, our opinion and the opinions we receive from WHL head scouts, whl scouts, parents and coaches.
I will tell you one thing from working in the WHL for a period of time. No list is the same. ON the team I worked for, we all had vastly different lists.
In terrms of our rankings, it is really just a recommendation and not by any means written in stone but we feel that it gives an idea of where a player stands.

teams have to remember to look for potential players in the later rounds and dont count vancouver island out. i saw a kid named jordan parmar play after breaking his wrist. this kid can do it all! he has tremondous speed and amazing vision. excellent forward that would be a steal in the later rounds of the draft
Yes Jordan Parmar i think could go the farthest in hockey on the island. You may think differently but this kid doesn't rely on his talents. He can be any player you want him to be. He can play both ends of the ice. I can see him in NHL as more of a Mason Raymond or Alex Burrows. PS I am a canucks fan. The reason I want to speak so much about one kid who has an okay chance at getting noticed in the draft is because of his personality.I talked to him and he such a nice kid, the parents and team and association loves him and his family, he gets good grades, and loves hockey. I heard about the broken wrist, and now I found out that he has been playing with a concussion to help his team. He is taking a break now before playoffs because his coach told him to rest because they need him for playoffs 100%. I was talking about all of his injuries and he just laughed and said this is the first year I've had to miss hockey because of an injury, and ofcourse it would happen during my draft year. He is such a nice boy and i believe he should get drafted, not because of his personality alone but because of his ability to play the game.
