6. Spruce Grove PAC Saints
7. SSAC Southgate Lions
8. Winnipeg Sharks

Kamloops won the 5 game marathon. Good on them. They deserve to be # 1.Lots of good games were played in the tournament. Very high scoring games.

Anonymous said...

How spuce is still on the list shocks me.

Anonymous said...

agreed, Spruce should not be on the list, give it a couple more weeks.

Anonymous said...

Is Seafair there on potential? They have yet to play a single game against a team of any calibre. Their games have mostly been either against Tier 2 teams or vs lower end Tier 1 teams.

Seafair may end up in the top ten in the long run but to rank them there now seems absurd.

Heard the ref’s took over final game against ND, although they did beat ND before meeting them again in final. What do you think were you there?

Anonymous said...

POE beats Spruce Grove and then Leduc Alans transport and they are no longer ranked but the losing teams remain 6th a 10th respectivley?
You may want to give this another look.

Anonymous said...

Relax you guys. In a long grueling tournament like this you dont get the best out teams late in the tournament, By the way Leduc Won its pool, Beating BWC.

As far as Alberta Hockey teams "crushing teams from B.C." is concerned it only happened with respect to their lack of respect to other players of the game.

They showed their lack of respect in all the hits from behind and head shots I witnessed. No Alberta teams in the final four at Medicine Hat is well deserved. I now know why scores are so high with all the special team play.

I am sure Don Cherry's idea of Stop Signs on the backs of players jerseys will never fly there. Don loves tough hockey not stupid reckless checks, any coward can hit outside the rules.

I think they must believe that is what the WHL wants. Judging by there draft selections maybe it is. Our game needs more respect and starts at the minor hockey level.

Great tournament in Medicine Hat and skill still rules the day not size and intimidation.

Bitter are we. Lets see with all the penalties called by the refs the B.C boys were well protected. As far as Alberta Teams. Lets See, Leduc and Calgary Won its Pools, Leduc was a 10 minute meltdown away from going to the Semi-final and Calgary was a Overtime Goal away, Oh yes SSAC went 4-1. Lets not get carried away!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Calgary's pool was actually a three way tie for first. Calgary came away in first under the tiebreaker.

Anonymous said...

Leduc may have won their pool but did lose 10-6 to Cloverdale.

Anonymous said...

That is funny! It was 5 games for all but two teams in 4 days. Not exactly long and grueling in the scheme of things.
Most of the top teams lost either their first, second or third games, including Kamloops, SSAC, Burnaby, POE, Notre Dame etc.
It is at the end of a tournament when most teams begin to find their stride IMHO.
Leduc may have won thier pool but they still only won two games to do so. They then lost big to Cloverdale who got whooped by Burnaby and finished with 2 wins & 3 loses in 5 games.
Ouch!

Spruce question??? if you look closely as you obviously have(dropping them 4) at comparitive games in the Hat tourney there was great inconsistency in who beat who things were all over the map. Spruce wins one by 1 then one brutal game that was not as near as lopsided as the score suggests- loses two each by one to two very solid teams-then 9-2 win against a weak team. Saints have three lines-like most elite teams-that is what separates. I suppose that is why this is interesting but painful. Observers are way to bias and have a very difficult time considering it all. Spruce goes undefeated for 1 1/2 months and loses a couple and they r a bad team??? I watched a lot of hockey this past weekend and seen a great deal of different coaching- top players double-shifted,lines rolling etc.. Good goalies cracking under pressure and on and on. I have watched your rankings all year (tough to do) I think you do a great job of keeping the emotion out . It is a tough task. Time will tell and that is what makes sports great.
All I know is I spent 4 full days watching hockey and did not see a team that I would call an easy favourite ,I seen cracks in all of them. Aside from a few obvious weak teams the rest were anybody's game, that is healthy. I know I wouldn't bet big money either way on spruce against any of the teams above them either. I think their coach is looking to March more than yesterday- biggest thing if they would start play as angry as some other teams they would be very hard to beat-they r too discipline which looks soft at times. Goaltending was tested for the first time this year...

Leduc Cloverdale game. Leduc had its pool won and rested kids, as well its tough to win a game with 25 penalties.

Anonymous said...

POE also just had a sound victory over Kamloops 4-0 in the Kelowna's tournament final?

Anonymous said...

POE was outplayed soundly by Spruce for 2 of 3 periods came down to several clear cut key misses in close.

Anonymous said...

The top 4 teams played 6 games. Reffing was interesting to say the least. ND must be in top 10 somewhere

Anonymous said...

It clearly states that ND, POE and OHA are not ranked in the top 10 because they accept players from out of their region. Otherwise they would be ranked high on this top 10 list.

Anonymous said...

As per norm. The BC teams always seem to say it on the ice.Not quivelling in columns like this.It was time to put up or shut up.BC is first and third. No ambhl team in final 4.Hmmm.Just wait till next year.A massive crop of 97 talent from BC. Yours in hockey,AMBHL fanclub.

"POE was outplayed soundly by Spruce for 2 of 3 periods came down to several clear cut key misses in close."

This is simply not true. POE beat Spruce in all aspects of the game.

POE also beat Leduc very handily. Even though the score came within 1goal, Leduc was down by two and pulled their goalie to score with around a minute or so remaining.

Shots on goal

POE = 53
Leduc = 35

At one point the shots were 39 to 13.

As far as the two games POE lost; they were both ref'd by the same guy who was so pathetic, even several of the Scouts around me were commenting and even vocalizing if you can imagine. POE had three full 2-minute 5 on 3 man disadvantages against them along with a host of other penalties that would not have got as much as a look at a Peewee House game.

I am not kidding, it was ridiculous!

For all intents and purposes, POE had NO chance of winning either the Winnipeg or the ND game under this referee.

Given another set of stripes you could bet the farm, there would be different outcomes.

Medicine Hat is nonetheless a great, well run tournament!

Abbotsford may prove interesting.

Anonymous said...

In abbottsford you will see the top team in the ambhl first game Bisons vs POE should tell the story POE will have a tough time shutting The Bison team down still unreal that you have usa teams at a tourney and the first place team in the ambhl at home

Anonymous said...

What chance does kelowna have of winning their pool in the abbotsford tournament? They are in a pool with spokane, langley and the calgary bronks.

Anonymous said...

How do you think the Airdrie Xtreme did against the Winnipeg Hawks? I heard that they did tie them but I am unsure of how the game went? they must have played good game seeing they tied one of the top teams in the tournament.

Anonymous said...

If you could check the score sheets you would see thaty Kamloops was one of the most penalized teams but still won the championship. There is too much whining anout the referee - remember that they are a important part of the game and see the game much differently at ice level!! Learn to play with a good penalty kill. Congratulations to Kamloops for there tenacity and playing at an excellent level throughout the tournament.

Anonymous said...

Airdrie played well against Winnipeg, their goalie was great. The top end players from Airdrie seemed to control the play when they were on the ice, but Winnipeg had a deeper team than Airdrie.

Anonymous said...

SSAC beat Kamloops 5-3. How was that game?

Anonymous said...

Who do you think the top players on the Xtreme are?

Anonymous said...

Question for those who were at the Med Hat Tourny,
I see Hicketts had a good tournament, what were his strengths/weaknesses. How did his game compare to the top 4 defensemen on SSAC? they have a strong defense core.

Anonymous said...

Wong is the only player on Airdrie going in the top 3 rounds others are Pauls Chartier Bauer that may go late.As for Hicketts he is undersized on the back end but skill wise the best deman in the tourney ssac does not compare with this player not saying they dont have great d core but Hickeets goes top 20 in the draft the only thing is will team punish him because of his size skill alone only Chevilier can compare from ND Other D stand outs were Fluery ND
Van Horne Royals

Anonymous said...

Why does nobody want to post their names??

Anonymous said...

Scouting/ranking is a huge challenge!! Evaluating the on ice(here and now) against potential??
I saw kids in the lobby with the features of men and those that are still boys. 5' 8 " men with beards & 6' gangly boys . What a gamble- What you see against what will be??
To the previous author-anonymous because mostly dads and boosters.

Anonymous said...

The kamloops VS ND game was good however the reffing was very poor. ND has major penalty trouble in the 3rd. It was there game to loose.

Anonymous said...

1:12 They want to be able to pimp their kids under the guise of being "scouty"... Very subtle.

Anonymous said...

dont you think bauer, wong, dube, and pauls would go atleast in the top 5rounds?

Anonymous said...

you never know anything can happen.

Anonymous said...

I also think Boyd and Chartier will be picked. They played a few games in Medicine Hat with Wong at center and looked very good together.

Anonymous said...

So you think Airdrie is going to have 6 or 7 kids drafted! Can you dream world!

Anonymous said...

I'm not in a dream world. I'm just saying the Xtreme have a strong core and there are 6-7 players with tons of potential. If they continue to be successful they will be picked.

Anonymous said...

I would say Wong Pauls Chartier and Dube will get picked after that you wishing. You cant go by the scoring race here look at the latest ranking on this site kids who are dominated the ambhl have sliped to 2nd round I guess due to their size not due to thier play.Understand they draft potential not the best now if that were the case it would be easy. Some think taking the bigger players now is less of a crap shoot. That is why some guys who are outstanding dont get selected as high.Eberle was 5ft 3 at the bantam draft and selected in round 7 so it just doesnt matter the cream will rise to the top

Anonymous said...

The Kamloops Notre Dame final looked very good. Hicketts played well and so did some of the others. Are most of the ND kids from Saskatchewan? I was told the 2 asistants are from Quebec#12? and BC#2? One was real quick and won top D man and the other was real big and strong. Some of the others I recognised from Saksatchewan.

Anonymous said...

What's going on with the 2 Winnipeg teams being ranked in our division? Who are these guys and how and what are you basing your rankings with these teams?

Anonymous said...

Here is the concern with ref's: In at least 3 games I saw the ref's come down on a team up by 3 points or more in last period or starting from middle of 2nd period.

Would like to agree that one has to be able to kill penalties, but when refs calls one after another on a team until game is tied or other team is up by 1 goal and then changes his calling style (details) back to original severity -- I am concerned.

What I can't figure out yet is it a bias against province or private vs. public systems.

Does anyone know if senior refs were hear to supervise/evaluate their colleagues at this tournament? I know a tournament like Med H does allow for ref evaluations to occur.

Anonymous said...

The winnipeg teams deserve to be in the rankings. The Hawks did very well in Medicine Hat coming in 5th. The beat spruce grove 8-1 and POE 8-2

Anonymous said...

What tournaments did the Winnipeg Sharks play in and how did they do?? I seen a list of Hawks players on this site with some impressive numbers. Who stood out for the Sharks and who did they play?

Anonymous said...

The sharks went to kamploops

Anonymous said...

When and who did they play. is there a site with stats or anything. What were the scores and who did they play? Please

Anonymous said...

all i know is that they lost to kamploops 4-0

Anonymous said...

Sask Kids for ND:
Uhrich
Fleury
Duperault
Fransoo
Metz- Goalie

QC Kids:
Addison
Chevlalier #12
Bassile

Ratelle
Marios

Anonymous said...

Sebastian Barrette#14 strong fast skater, Jonah Boston#2 Big! smart, my guess 190+ both playing for ND and both from BC.

Anonymous said...

I think that Bauer will go atleast 3rd round if he keeps up his keen style of play.

Anonymous said...

Wow.This draft is way out of hand. Why dont many of these kids want NCAA and a paid education and develope till your 21?Think about it for 5 minutes.Be smart, stay in school.

Anonymous said...

I agree this top 150 is questionable to say the least. I know Western Elite only sees a few kids from most major centers. I have to say there are better kids that are not on the list that should be in the top 20 that this site has no clue who they are.Only important thing is the scouts do know who they are. I can easily name 3 kids that are in the top 20 that arent even listed on this site. Im not knocking Western Elite its just that they do not know these kids.

Anonymous said...

I'd go the NCAA route in a second!

Anonymous said...

The problem with sites like these is that they need to be loyal to their subscribers so there is kids listed only because of this. It is unfortunate but self promotion, or the promotion of your kid, is a method that some parents try to use as the draft approaches. It is sure good that the scouts never look at or read these sites.

Western Elite said...

I'm going to respond to the latest post in terms of being "loyal" to the donators or subscribers. Nothing could be further from the truth! If we were to base lists off of who supporting us, it would lose cred very, very fast. There have been parents who have supporting this long-term who we have steadily dropped down the list and others who have risen. The list absolutely has no baring on this. Also, our interviews we do for the newsletter is on a wide range of kids and again has no baring on who supports us. As for scouts and their views, we have several who support us and some don't like this but it is here for enjoyment and many people do enjoy having this outlet to read and support.

Anonymous said...

Sounds like someone's kid isnt on the Western Elite Hockey Prospects mock draft list and is bitter.
Its a list people, take it for what it is.
I enjoy the read, keep up the good work.

Anonymous said...

I also have to agree with the NCAA route.

Anonymous said...

You think that because the refs call a penalty that the kids are protected, come on give your head a shake. We are talking about dangerous hits from behind and kids that must have no regard for what they are doing because they do it repeatedly. I would refer to your comment about the refs protecting the boys by calling penalties as "closing the gate after the horse got out". Let's start teaching them how to play the game properly from an early age and not allow hits from behind without severe penalties. The game played properly has a lot of room for good hits and physical play but what we saw in M.H. was undiciplined hockey from some teams that were dangerous. Nobody wants to stand over their kid in a hospital hoping he will get the feeling back in his legs some day. Don't condone cheap hits by telling us that the refs will take care of it. That is a cop out and lets the kids know that they don't need to take responsibility. This is something that needs to be taught at home and by coaches and for the most part does not appear to be happening in Alberta. It didn't get any Alberta teams to the final four so maybe it will sink in now. Also, finishing your check does not mean blind side a kid 3 seconds after he has unloaded the puck and is not expecting it, that is called a cheap shot and really should not generate a chear from the team much less the uneducated hockey parent!
