Abbotsford has beaten BWC in today's first game at the BC Bantam provincials. This has to be considered a minor upset but you have to remember they have now beaten BWC twice in a row, going back to the Final four in the PCAHA where they won the league title. Congrats on a fast start for Abbotsford who just may be peaking at the right time.
In other news...SSAC Southgate Lions have defeated the Calgary Bisons 3 games to 1 and have advanced to westerns in Winnipeg. They will be joined thus far by the Prince Albert Venice House Pirates who went undefeated in league play in the Centre Four Hockey League and the host Winnipeg Sharks. The Winnipeg Hawks went in through the front door with a Manitoba Championship final win over Brandon today.
The Winnipeg Hawks ended up defeating Brandon 15-3 in the Manitoba Provincial Final. Adam Brooks was 2nd in the tournamend with 17 points in 4 games. His team mate Dane Schioler had 8-10-18. Adam is expected to be selected in the top couple rounds, perhaps even first round.
So we are just waiting on the B.C. rep which his far from over and we won't find out until Friday who the rep will be in B.C. However, it looks like Abbotsford may throw a wrench in to BWC and Kamloops plans perhaps.
More later.

SSAC looks really good right now, completly dominated a very good Bisons team, series was not close.
SSAC top guys ot work and performed the Bisons best players.
Look for SSAC to win Gold at Westerns!
Of all the players in the poll right now, can u profile then and say their rankings?
Why wouldn't you put Dane Schioler's name before Brooks if he was the leading scorer. Get off the Brooks wagon already man There's a lot of kids in Canada that have the same or more points per season in western Canada then him....
Does anybody know anything about the Chowder Cup in Boston?? My son was approached to go with a team from Alberta, and wanted to know if anybody had any input. Thank you.
In response to 4:41 SSAC is full value for the series win, but to say "completely dominated" is certainly putting a biased spin on the series.
Congratulations to SSAC for their Provincial win and also Leduc Midget 15 for winning the North title yesterday. Two Leduc Bantam AAA affiliates, Kord Pankewich and Liam Gregor each scored in the final against the very highly rated Sherwood Park in the 3-1 win for Leduc.
Their has been alot of hype all year with the Bisons, but what have they won. Lost in Abbotsford, St. Albert, and now to SSAC. The bottom line is the Bisons are a soft team, and if they would of played in the North, Point and MacMaster would not of got 100points. The North had alot more competitive teams and a more physical brand of hockey. Congrats to SSAC. They should win Westerns.
The Bison - SSAC series was a fun one to watch. Both teams have a lot of skill and speed. Very good goaltending at bothend. Where I think SSAC won was their size over the Bisons. The Bison's have one of the best power-plays I have seen at the Bantam level. It'll be interesting to see who gets drafted off these 2 teams and what rounds. Good luck to SSAC at the Westerns!
Chowder cup is a NCAA showcase +college tour.If your going WHL route save your money.
Cannot agree that the AMBHL north has more competitive teams. Additionally, the south produces more high end talent. I think this years draft will be similar to last year where the south produced twice that of the north in the first and second rounds.
Who goes to the chowder cup? What age group?
SSAC win shows that you need a little of everything to win. They were the most well balanced team in the North. I could pick some other teams with a better set of forwards, or a better set of D-men but not a team that has it all - balance and good goaltending win hockey games. They will represent AB well.
Personally, I think the bisons have some excellent players but I sure wouldn't want to build a WHL team around their core. It seems harsh judging kids at this age but the reality is they have kids that are not late bloomers just plain dang small and light. You would be able to look at it a bit different if they were 6'1" gangly kids with a skill set waiting to grow into themselves but when you may be seeing them at their best...
10:53 you think twice the # from the South?? Who would your say top 15 from the South and 7-8 from the North be??
Chowder Cup is all ages (starting with 13 yr olds). I know there is a team going from Alberta for 95's and 96's. The 96 team is being recruited by a Calgary Bantam AAA coach I believe.
For Chowder Cup, any 96 BC teams going?
"The North had alot more competitive teams and a more physical brand of hockey".
Agreed that the north plays more physical, but to say the north is alot more competitive is stretching it, if not wrong.
SSAC/Bison edge SSAC
St.Albert/Royals even or slight edge to Royals
S Park/NortStars even
MLAC;CAC;KC/ Bronks; Okotoks who knows.
The above is IMO, but the facts speak for themselves in the rural divisions where the south was 19-6-5 against the north rural.
Game 3 of SSAC Bisons was 1-1 with 8 min left...that was the pivitol point..Bison 1 shot away from finishing on the weekend or at least forcing SSAC to travel to Calgary Tuesday for game 5....game 4 Bison got down 3-0 early and never recovered..to say SSAC dminated is an Edmonton parent jawing...whoever won was guaranteed a silver in Westerns full credit to SSAC as they did all the things you have to do to win...but it was the kids and the coaches not any of the parents..be proud of your kids but learn how to win..ie: keep your mouths shut..I think Both teams has a pretty clean group of kids
SSac won the Bisons series that is for sure but to diminish kids that got that team to the finals is short sighted The Bisons only have 5 quality players the draft will bear that out The Bison scored 11 gaols in the series 10 of those Goals were scored by one line so I dont know that ssac top players were better SSAC were deeper as for Point and MacMaster those kids have always scored at every event we have been at since the first day I saw them. So your take makes no scents do you think those kids are full grown. Congrats to SSAC but really if you think Edmonton has a hope against Kamploops you must be a SSAC parent.
4:17 FYI SSAC has played Kamloops twice in Med Hat and St. Albert and won both games so I would say they have a good hope. Just looked at the BC playoffs and Kamloops hase not won there yet so don't be so quick to give them the Gold at the Westerns.
4:17 that sucks that ssac has already beaten kamloops twice this year already then doesnt it
Kamloops won the games that mattered and SSAC didn't so those wins didn't mean much....everything revolves around 18 and 8 with SSAC same as 19 and 18 with Bisons..on each of those teams if one of those players are off then they have trouble against top teams...most teams in most leagues are like this..community based teams just can't be more than 2 lines deep and the 2nd line is always a big drop off...powerplay is a good example..see who is out there for any team..usually the 3 fwds from the 1st line or at least 2 and one big guy from the 2nd line.....a pay to play team could pull it off if enough top players attend those schools (ND and sometimes POE)
3:27." A shot away from finnishing the weekend" Game 4 in the North Final Leduc and SSAC was 1-1 with a minute left and Leduc had hit the post 5 times in the game, but lost, Just like the Bisons lost, you were not that close to winning the final series.
looks like kamloops couldn't come through when it mattered most off all
