Sunday Evening

The Edmonton SSAC are one win away from advancing to the AMBHL finals against the Calgary Bisons as they beat Leduc 7-2 this afternoon to take a 2-1 series lead. SSAC scored 4 times on 18 shots in the first period on goalie Nolan Kruizenga and then extended their lead to 6-1 a few minutes in to the 2nd period, chasing the starting net-minder. Giorgio Estephan and John Quennville both scored twice in chasing Kruizenga. Both players finished with 3 point games. Jordan Papirny stopped 23/25 shots in the win. Game 4 go's Tuesday night in Leduc.

The final four of the B.C. PCAHA tournament for the provincial rep is complete now with Abbotsford stunning BWC 5-2 in the final. Abbotsford is the host of the provincials which take place from March 20-25 and will also include VIAHA rep Nanaimo and OMAHA rep Kamloops. Cloverdale will also take part as well as Prince George, along with BWC.

In the Winnipeg Bantam AAA playoffs, it was the Winnipeg Hawks taking the first two games of a best of seven finals by scores of 11-3 and 4-2. Adam Brooks led the way over the weekend with 4 goals. Nick Matthews scored twice in the 11-3 victory. Schioler had 1-2-3 over the weekend. Game 3 go's Tuesday.

Kelowna made both their games against kamloops remarkably close

Will PCAHA ever get away from single elimination and move to best of 3 or best of 5? Is there some history there?

Was at Ssac Vs Leduc yesterday, how Leduc has made it this far is AMAZING. The team has 0 structure, and was completly dominated. I feel bad for the goalie as he has been hung out to dry in this series.

don't think so, with BWC's loss, the road just got easier for kamloops to westerns.

Hey WEHP...

Do you know anything about a supposed rematch in the GSHL between Martensville and the Frostbite? Someone said they had to replay their game last night because Frostbite had a suspended player in the lineup for the first game.

Do you know anything about this?

Isn't BWC still in it? Doesn't Kamloops still have to get by both BWC and Abby plus three or four other teams?

The teams that are in the BC Provincials:

BWC
Kamloops
Prince George
Nanaimo
Abbotsford
Cloverdale

As for the score between Notre Dame and POE. It was 5-2 for POE. The tournament took place in Sicamous.

PCAHA was round robin, 4 teams single game round robin, top 2 go to provincials, crazy system, Abby host already in, went through front door, BWC clinched with first 2 games, so the Abby BWC was meaningless it only decided if Cloeverdale was in or Seafair. need true playoff system

Was at the last two games between SSAC and Leduc. Each won a game. Overheard that SSAC played bad in one game and same was true regarding Leduc in the other.

Leduc vs. SSAC- It has been very interesting to watch the different matchups all year which is what makes the rankings WEHP puts out earlier great conversation pieces. Leduc doesn't match well against SSAC, I am sure if you ask SSAC coach he is glad Leduc took out the PAC. The PAC did not match-up well against Leduc but did against SSAC.
Leduc is not a team that plays a strong technical game at all- they have relied on physical fire-wagon hockey all year and their up and down record shows that. They were horrible in St. Albert tourney and darn stong at times. They have a few very good players 4 sure but some of there very good players continue to make a number of very basic mistakes. Fairly easy to predict after the PAC double the shots on Leduc in their final game. The PAC just did not get aggressive enough in the red zone but controlled the play 2/3 of the time. SSAC is much like the PAC but strong in net- this one was not hard to call. Like the jump for players from Bantam AA to triple it is also a big jump in coaching... non-parent observer.

Yeah but kamloops would absolutely kill abbotsford, you know it too. I am honetly guessing that BWC had a really bad game, hey it is their first loss to a PCAHA team all year, i thinks it is okay to loose one game, they are in provs still with abby and cloverdale and kamloops. Did they have a bad game? anyone know?

Who was involved in the Sicamous tournament with POE and Notre Dame?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know when Calgary joined the AMBHL AAA league? The reason I ask is that there was a post on March 6 talking about go check the statistics of past players and there are not many names you would recognize. I did what the poster said just for curiosity and noticed that not until 2 or 3 years ago did any Calgary players show up in the historical stats. Just a question.

who won the tounrey? POE?

Grand Prairie,West Kelowna, and Vernon. As well as Notre Dame and Pursuit of Excellence. Also of note. POE had players away with the Midget team that weekend.

Abbotsford scored 7 seconds in (questionable goal). After that they rolled 3 lines and basically checked Burnaby closely in all 3 zones. They were physical and took away their time and space everywhere. I have never seen Burnaby turn so many pucks over. You can say BWC played poorly or you can give credit where credit is due. On this night, Abbotsford stepped up. Provincials is tournament play also and one never knows in these formats. BWC is not dead yet.

The Calgary teams have just completed their 3rd year in the AMBHL
