On Friday, the Calgary Bisons were involved in yet another slug-fest type game as they defeated Okotoks 9-6. The Tanner Macmaster and Brayden Point show continued as they each had 4 point games. Macmaster had 3 goals, giving him a league best 22 on the season, 7 more than Okotoks forward Connor Bleackley. Macmaster also has 33 points in 10 games to go along with 27 Pims. Thursday
Last night in the AMBHL, the Calgary Bronks skated by the Calgary Royals 7-2 in what is a somewhat surprising result. Zach Finlay led the way for the Bronks with 3 goals while Sam Young chipped in with 3 helpers. Reid Duke scored one of the two Calgary Royals markers. Duke now has 12 goals and 25 points in 10 games. The Royals, after a hoot start, are now 5-5-0.
In St. Albert, it was MLAC getting 20 saves from Nikolai Ferrus for the shutout en route to a 2-0 victory. That was just the 2nd win of the season for MLAC who are now 2-7-1 scoring just 18 goals and allowing 46.
The Calgary Bisons were involved in yet another shootout type game in defeating the Calgary Northstars 6-5. Franco Colapaulo had 3 assists for the Northstars, Taro Hirose had 1 goal and 1 assist in the defeat. For the Bisons, it was Brayden Point with a 4 point night including 2 goals. 97 born Nick Merkley had a pair of goals as well. Tanner Macmaster was not in the lineup for the Bisons. It was a quiet night in all three Saskatchewan leagues.....The GSHL gets back underway this evening, while the SSBHL and Centre Four Hockey League will both resume action on the weekend. Same go's for the Winnipeg Bantam League.
Last night in the PCAHA Bantam Tier 1 Group 1 action...It was Cloverdale improving to 3-1-1 with a 4-2 win over now 3-2-0 surrey. Burnaby though, remains the only undefeated team at 3-0-0 while South Delta is still winless at 0-4-0. In group 2, Seafair is cruising with a 3-0-0 record outscoring the opposition 20-3!

Weekend Bantam Highlights
Starting on the left coast, the PCAHA Tier 1 continued action over the weekend and a quick look at the standings show surprising Surrey leading the pack with a 3-1-0 record. Just behind are BWC who are 3-0-0 and Langley Eagles who are 2-0-1. Surprisingly enough, one of the favorites Abbotsford are just 1-2-1 with only 11 goals scored in the early going.
Moving over to the interior of B.C., a tournament was taking place in Kelowna. The final was played yesterday and to nobodies surprise it was Kamloops vs. POE. POE skated away with a convincing 4-0 victory to capture the crown. Josh Thrower who we expect to go in the top 2 rounds of the bantam draft had a convincing victory in a scrap.
Looking at some of the AMBHL highlights from over the weekend now. The Calgary Bisons were in Lethbridge in what was to be a showdown of two of the better teams in the south of the AMBHL. However it was the Bisons who walked away with a 10-3 win. Tanner Macmaster and Brayden Point each had 4 point nights in the win. Also over the weekend it was Airdrie winning 7-0 over Red Deer Black. Kyle Pauls and Tyler Wong each had 5 point nights. Pauls had 4 goals and 1 assist, while Wong had 2 goals and 3 assists. Malcolm Walilko turned aside 24 shots for the shutout.
A quick look at the AMBHL top teams:
Spruce Grove 8-0-0 32-12
SSAC 3-1-2 23-11
Sherwood PK 7-2-0 35-26
Leduc 6-3-0 50-23
Calgary Bisons 7-2-0 60-39
Airdrie 6-3-0 44-28
The Bisons continue to score the most goals per game at about 6.6 per game, while Spruce Grove are allowing only 1.5 per game.
In Saskatchewan over the weekend, Warman Wildcats were up in Meadow Lake for a pair of games and outscored them by a combined 18-6, winning 9-1 and 9-5. 97 born terrell Draude led the way over the weekend with 7 points in the 2 games played. Unity played a pair of games and won both by defeating Tisdale 6-2 and West Central 10-2. And in the marquis game of the weekend it was Prince Albert in Humboldt to play the Broncos. The Broncos defeated Prince Albert in the final of the Melville tournament but this time Prince Albert walked away with a 6-3 victory. Ryan Duret had 1 goal and 1 assist, Duret is expected to go in the top 3 rounds. Reid Gardiner was held to just 1 assist in the game, this coming after he scored 10-2-12 in 4 games in Melville.
Moving down south to the SSBHL, it was Estevan defeating 10-6. Leading the way for Estevan was Lynnden Pastachak with 4 goals and 1 assist. Pastachak leads the league so far with 10 goals and is 2nd in points with 15 behind team mate Chase McKersie. Weyburn defeated the Regina Canucks 9-1. For Weyburn both 97 born Regan Nagy and Nicholas Pouliot each had 3 goals in the win. Pouliot is the younger brother of Portland Winterhawks 2nd overall pick Derrick Pouliot. The Regina Oilers won a pair of games in Yorkton and Melville by 5-1 and 6-1 scores. Chris Belanger led the way for Regina with 4 points in the 2 games played. In a very competitive close game it was Balgonie over Swift Current 6-4. For Balgonie, Garrett Schmidt had 3 goals and highly touted Tim Vanstone had 1-2-3 in the loss.
Aside from Notre Dame in the south, it looks as though Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Regina Oilers and Balgonie will have strong seasons.
In Manitoba, both the Sharks and Hawks won their weekend games. The Hawks beat Interlake 9-1 and now have scored 24 goals in their past 2 games. The Sharks beat the 3rd place Monarchs and remain in first place with a perfect 5-0-0 record.
The Eastman and Parkisimo AA leagues are now underway. I hope to have more on these leagues as early as next week when each team has played some games.
Finally this morning, the Medicine Hat Tournament teams are now in:
White
Colorado
Abbotsford
Sherwood Park
Calgary Royals
Red
Notre Dame
SSAC
Kamloops
San Jose
Green

Last night in the AMBHL featured a showdown of two of the better teams in the AMBHL South as the Calgary Bisons took on the Calgary Royals. The Bisons in this one were missing one of the top defenceman in western Canada and a pure difference maker for them (Brycen Martin) and it showed, they got out-shot 62-30 but were able to pull off a 5-4 victory behind the solid goaltending of Adin Hill who turned away 58/62 shots. Saturday night in bantam hockey
Beginning in the SSBHL, Estevan defeated the Regina Senators 7-5. For Estevan Chase McKersie and Tanner Jeanott each scored 3 times. For McKersie, he now has 8 goals and 14 points in 4 games to start the season. Carter Folk picked up a 3 goal night for the Regina Sens, those were his first 3 of the season.
Moving over to the Centre Four Hockey League, there were 3 games so far this weekend as a couple teams are taking part in the Melville tournament. First off the Melfort AA Mustangs took a road trip to NW Saskatchewan and made their first stop in Meadow Lake. Melfort squeeked by Meadow Lake 6-5. For Meadow Lake, Wyatt Hinson had 3 goals while for Melfort, Rylan Freed had a huge night with 3 goals and 3 assists and scored the GWG with 1 second left on the clock. Freed is expected to go in the top 3 rounds.
On Saturday, they travelled down to North Battleford and skated to a 3-3 tie. Hiebert, Hanson and Hrenkiw scored for Melfort. Freed added an assist.
Moving over to the AMBHL, Lethbridge beat Okotoks 5-2. Leading the way for Lethbridge it was once again Cavin Leth with 2 goals and Brendan Benson with a goal and 1 assist. Leth now has 9 goals and 15 points in 7 games to go with 36 PIMS. Connor Bleackley led the way for Okotoks, while 97 born Mason McCarty continued his good play with a goal. Bleackley is third in the AMBHL scoring race with 10-6-16 in just 6 games.
Staying in Albert for a moment....In the SCAHL, Ryan Barrow who is one of the top ranked 97 born players in Western Canada has 10-11-21 in 8 games for the Bow Valley Timberwolves. It was thought that he would've had a great chance to crack the Airdrie Xtreme AAA but was cut in the end for some reason. Right now, Barrow is 3rd in league scoring trailing only a pair of Cranbrook players, Tyler Wray and Jason Richter. Wray has 16 goals in 8 games already.
Taking a quick look over at the ERBHL. This is a league basically for players who didn't make the cut for the AMBHL. However, sometimes players slip through the cracks and become very good players from this league. Right now, Josh Hagal from Parkland Selects leads the league with 9-6-15 in 5 games, while Connor Atkinson is close behind with 7-6-13. Atkinson plays with Lloyminster. The defenceman scoring leader is Connor Lukan from Slave Lake with 7-4-11.
Moving over to B.C. and taking a quick look first at the standings in the OMAHA. The OMAHA features the T1 bantam teams in the Okanagan and area....Kamloops has gotten off to a great start already going 3-0-0, while Kelowna and POE are each 2-1. It looks as though Penticton and Vernon are really going to struggle, both are winless. In a showdown yesterday, Kamloops beat POE 3-1.
Finally, this morning, taking a quick look at the Winnipeg Bantam league. The Winnipeg Sharks are off to a 4-0 start after beating the favorite Winnipeg Hawks 8-7 on the weekend.

In B.C. last night, the Abbotsford Hawks defeated North Shore Winter Club 5-1. Dylan Kooner led the way with 3 goals, while Painchaud and Revel also scored for Abbotsford. Uhrich Adjusting to life in Notre Dame
Fresh off a thanksgiving family visit in Rosetown, Josh Uhrich discusses his time in Wilcox playing for the storied Notre Dame AAA Hounds program.
The move to Notre Dame was primarily to get on the ice and learn the dedication of what it will take to get to the next level says Josh, "I already think that I'm becoming a much better player do to being on the ice everyday and the elite level work-outs the coaches put us through. I'm getting in very good shape which is making all the difference".
The difference has helped in the early going playing on a line with Medicine Hat's Blake Penner. "It has definitely helped playing with Blake, he gets open and I'm able to find him. In fact, I set him up for four goals against Weyburn, I think I had five points".
Watch for Josh Uhrich as the May draft progresses.

Sunday Thoughts/Highlights
All bantam leagues are now underway, so instead of re-capping each game, I'll just run through a few of the highlights from over the weekend.
First off, their is a big tournament going on Chilliwack with most of the top teams from B.C. taking part with the exception of Seafair, who host their own each fall.
In the Chilliwack tournament, it was basically a four team race from the start with Cloverdale clearly the fifth best team their. In the semi's it will be POE vs. Abbotsford and Burnaby vs. Kamloops. Burnaby has outscored thier opponents 35-2 in 5 straight wins. They'll meet Kamloops who scored a whopping 44 goals in 5 games while allowing 12. Kamloops also went without a loss. In the other matchup, POE who went 5-0 and outscored the opposition 30-8 will play Abbotsford who was 5-0 and 36-11. They actually squeaked by Langley 5-3 in the quarters.
In the Seafair tournament, to nobodies surprise, Seafair rolled to a 3-0 record scoring 28 goals. Other teams who took part were Mission, Campbell River and Kent Valley.
In the AMBHL league yesterday, both Reid Duke and Tanner MacMaster continued their early domination of the league. Duke led his Calgary Royals to a 9-5 win scoring twice and assisting on 2 others, while MacMaster answered with 2 goals and added 4 assists, giving him 20 points and a league leading 14 goals which is 5 more than anybody else. Is Tanner going to make a run at Rattie's record? Also of note, Zach Gonek played his first game of the season for St. Albert after serving a suspension, he had 2 assists.
Goalie of note so far in the AMBHL has to be Nolan Kruizenga from Leduc who is 2-1-0 with a .968 save percentage and a 1.00 gaa. J.T. Barlett from league leading Spruce Grove PAC has a .944 save percentage and a 1.33 gaa.
Moving over to Saskatchewan now and the Centre Four Hockey League which got underway this weekend with 4 games. The game of note though saw Prince Albert defeat likely the only team who will give them a run for their money this year, Warman. They beat Warman 5-1. In other action Melfort tied the Battlefords 4-4. Zac Paziuk had a goal and 1 assist for Melfort while Daxon Schmidt led the way for Battlefords with a pair of goals.
A brief look at the Winnipeg Bantam League shows the favorite Winnipeg Hawks at 2-0, they are tied with the Winnipeg Sharks who are also 2-0. A bit surprising is that the Winnipeg Warriors are 0-2 and have only scored 2 goals in 2 games.

Mackenzie Bauer picked up 4 goals and 1 assist to go along with 4 Pims in 2 games in leading Airdrie to a pair of 4-3 wins last week.
