There will be no bantam AA hockey in Meadow Lake next next season as Meadow Lake failed to qualify for the new provincial league. You read read the rest of the article here: http://www.meadowlakeprogress.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2950209.

Here is a good article from the St. Albert Gazette for a re-cap on the John Reid Memorial Tournament held over the weekend:http://www.stalbertgazette.com/article/20110126/SAG1101/301269995/blazers-capture-reid-title

There was an incident in a Vancouver Island bantam game with Lake Cowichan and the Saanich Braves. Unhappy with a referee’s call, a hockey dad took it upon himself to express, in a loud expletive-filled rant, his disagreement. The Winnipeg Sharks continue their hot streak with a 4-2 victory over the Winnipeg Monarchs. 6'0 174lb defenseman, Tristan Beach-Ducharme led the way for the Sharks with 2 goals, he now has 3 goals this season. Fellow defenseman Reid Zalitach had a pair of assists giving him 17 points in 25 games for the 5'10 dman. The Sharks are now 17-6-1 and are pulling away now from the Warriors and Monarchs for a 2nd place finish.

Moving over to Saskatchewan now, and starting off in the Centre Four Hockey League, it will be Ryan Duret, Jordan Harris and company taking on Ryan Pilon and the Warman Wildcats beginning next Wednesday in Walheim. The Prince Albert Pirates are undefeated in league play so far this season and have rolled through the playoffs. Warman has just 3 losses in 18 league games.

In the South Saskatchewan Bantam League it will be the Balgonie Prairie Storm taking on the Regina Senators in the league final there. The Prairie Storm clinched a date with Regina after winning the total goal series vs. the Regina Hurricanes 8-4. The Prairie Storm and the Senators are the top 2 teams in the league standings as well this year with the Prairie Storm having lost just one game so far. While the Senators are 12-4.

Abby 7 Surrey 4

Crazy game. surrey jumps out 3-0, abby storms back 5-3, surrey gets on 5-4, abby puts it away 7-4. Ref was brutal to both sides.

Anonymous said...

how is that an incident on vancouver island? That happens a lot.

Anonymous said...

IMHO, Jake Virtanen is a greater on-ice threat than Tyler Sandhu is. Virtanen should go top five, while Sandhu should remain in top 10.

Anonymous said...

I agree It was a great game.. The thing is, Surrey has that one line that is a huge force the other two struggle when playing good teams... Any opinions on who's getting drafted from Surrey, because I mean their a preety under looked at team..

Anonymous said...

Meyer and Willcox put on a show together against evry team regardless. Frisen is very skilled, but plays a littel soft and inconsistently. They have a 97 centreman who is very defensively responsible. He should get drafted next year. They got a couple of big solid defenceman who just hit hard aginst abby. One bad goalie and okay goalie, both inconsistent. Watch out for these guys, we may see some playoff upsets.

abby vs. Surrey was a good game. Surrey needs to deal with momentum changes better. They wre up 3-0 and abby got a goal and surrey could change the momentum. Couple of huge hits were thrown including an open ice bomb in the first from surrey. Surrey was 3-5 on the PP, looked good, good puck movement, 3 slap pass goals. Virtanen was looking dangerous the entire game. Bamfod and skapski did not too much, nor did baron or kaila. Surrey's "3rd" line was on for 5 goals against. Their seemed to be lot of executive members in the stands, maybe watching the coaches and ice time and stuff. Exciting game write to the end though.

Anonymous said...

Surrey's top line imho opinion is the 2nd deadliest line in the PCAHA. Barzel and Seto's are # 1.

Anonymous said...

Do you mean Meyer, Willcox, and Freisen?? Thats a fun line to whatch. Seems to me that there coach doesnt put them together often.

Anonymous said...

well the other two lines would crap the bed then wouldn't they? They were togehter but got split after the teams forwards didnt score for 4 games straight. I agree, probably the #2 line in PCAHA, very creative.

Anonymous said...

If Surrey minor hockey wasn't so strict with ice time and stuff, Surrey would probably double shift that line, creating a tougher team. I have to agree they are a very hard hitting team.

Anonymous said...

I think that's a good line but I wonder what line you would put ahead of that. I could think of one on Abby, one on Seafair and two on BWC that would be ahead of that.

Anonymous said...

No there probably number 1 or 2 in pcaha. I wonder who's getting drafted first from surrey. Meyer ,Willcox or Freisen. My votes Meyer. True I have been following Surrey and there are so many issues that have come apon them.

Anonymous said...

Virtanen Skapski and bamford would never work as they have individual skill but rarely pass. Against surrey Virtanen through a suicide pass right up the middle and Surrey's 6 ft. 1 dman stepped up to rock him. solid hit. Meyer, willcox and friesen play together, not as individuals. Bwc only has one line better than this. Who are lines better that you think? what do people think about surrey's team? Their defence and goalies?

Anonymous said...

Their team will loose to BWC, but every time meyer willcox and frisen come off the ice against any team, they have done something good, weather it's dominate down low, throw a lot of hits, or have a solid defense shift. BTW, if you havent noticed willcox is the league's best shot blocker.

Anonymous said...

I like that part of Willcox's game. Surrey has no goaltending probably because they have no actual goalie coach. Surrey has to keep Meyer Freisen and Willcox together to start beating teams like abby. Meyer has skill speed and agresivness, Freisen Skill, Speed. Willcox connects with Meyer completly and has great grit. I know Freisen's on the top 150 are Meyer and Willcox? There better than half those kids.

Anonymous said...

Sandhu's line is better. Also both Seto and Barzal's line. Meyer is emerging as a very dominant player, not quite in Jake Virtanen's league but in the top five centres for sure. As for Surrey's defence and goalies, look at the stats, they are about fourth or fifth best in the league.

Anonymous said...

Meyer is a dominant player without question just preety under looked at to me. He has 3rd to 5th round potential.

Anonymous said...

Just a note re the CENTER FOUR games: these are for Provincial playoffs right now. League playoffs have not started yet.

Anonymous said...

surrey has 3 good dmen, the other 3 aren't good. They have 4 consistent good fwds. One goalie is pretty good, but inconsistent, the other is bad. in abby 7 4 loss. The 3rd fwd line was one for 5 goals against. the worst d pair was on for 4. As a team, you guys rank 'em pretty well, but the have 3 solid "d", 4 good fwds, 1 okay goalie.

Anonymous said...

And whos getting drafted do u think comment 19..?

Anonymous said...

I think willcox, friesen, and meyer will all get drafted, i think Paul savage will also get drafted, the other 2 dmen, i believe # 2 & 21 will get drafted very late in the draft. The 97, #10 will be playing on a very bad surrey next year, but i feel his defensive play will get him top 3 rounds. so yea, they have like 6 drafties but the rest of the team is horrible.

Anonymous said...

Way to throw your team under the bus... classy.

Anonymous said...

six draftees off a mediocre team? How many rounds are they going this year?

Anonymous said...

i have to agree they will probably have 6 drafties, but 4 outta the 6 will go late in the draft, past rounds 7 or 8. If they shortened the bench, they would be much better. against abby, they had 5 of the 6 drafties on for all 3 PP goals they scored. See what happens

Anonymous said...

I agree Meyer and Freisen will probably be the only ones going high..

Anonymous said...

the other 4 will be drafted between maybe rounds6 and on. Meyer will go maybe 4th round and frisen about 5-6.

Anonymous said...

Yea i agree with that to , but the funny thing is, I dont think Meyer is on the top 150?

Anonymous said...

There will be kids on this 150 list that will not be drafted at all.IMO

Anonymous said...

im sorry to say, but the list is not accurate, jake wozney is ranked like 110, and ryan donaldosn is like 140th, and meyer isn't even on their.

Anonymous said...

The list is completly not accurate, And I would like to add to the comment posted before saying Meyer is an underlooked at player. He is not at all. I have been to lots of Surrey games and almost ever team line matches or shadow's the kid. He is a big threat on the ice along with his two wingers one being Willcox who should also be on that list. They both should be high on that list. Im feeling some playoff upsets.

Anonymous said...

Meyer is on the new list actually.

Anonymous said...

Seafair and Abby are now tied, each having two games remaining. Fourth place to 10th place are separated by only five points and in PCAHA you can get three points in a game. Most of those teams have beaten each other so I don't think anything would be an upset as they are all so close. If the playoffs started today, Surrey (6-10-2) would get Langley (8-10-0). There is no chance for an upset as that looks like a toss-up to me. Cloverdale could have the fourth best record and still finish tenth!

Anonymous said...

what is his rank? where are they guys from surrey ranked?

Anonymous said...

6 players on an average team get drafted? What cool aid are you B.C parents drinking again!!

Anonymous said...

I'm a scout, and i am happy to say that they have 6 drafties, but i don't think people understand they are not top 10 ppicks. They ave a third rounder, a fith rounder, and 4 others going after rounds6-7. They're team is not good. Comment #4 clearly states that they have one fwd line that is a huge force, as in maybe 3rd or 4th most dominant in BC. They other two lines rarely get anything done. They don't shorten the becnh, cause they're coach will get kicked out. They have 6 drafties, but that is it! the rest of the team is nowhere near good. I'm sure they'd being playing with a better team if there were no boundaries. So 4.29PM, have you watched them play? What does team play have to do with a single player gettin' drafted? they average like 16-18 minutes a game, so what happens the other 25-28 minutes? If teams kept track of plus minus, these guys would be good. I personally don't know how parents from outta BC can comment on PCAHA teams.

Anonymous said...

Cool... A scout ;)

Which team do you scout for?

Anonymous said...

none of your business bud;)

Anonymous said...

Team Wilcox

Anonymous said...

Don't be saying that you have no idea who that is okay?

Anonymous said...

Alberta parents are so funny......They comment on BC teams when they've never watched 'em play... HAHAHAH :)

Anonymous said...

HaHahahahhhaa, alberta parents are always complaining about how BC parents are on crack and have no clue what they're talking about and then they go ahead and make the dumbest comments ever, like team wilcox....hhahahahahhaa

Anonymous said...

Surrey wont go far they have absolutly no coaching I mean no break out no PP line and no Pk lines. Against clover dale today they send out to of there worste forwards to PK I mean just dont get it. And you would think they would stack the PP unit but they just have there regular lines rolling on out there, no wonder there not winning any games. Oh yea and once again Meyer, Willcox and Freisen arn't together. Meyer had a pretty nice goal but willcox and Freisen were nowhere to be seen those three have to be together weather the coaches like it Or not. Im not trashing Surrey but Ive whatched them quite a but and this is honestly what ive seen.

Anonymous said...

i watched the game to, willcox didn't hit the score sheet but he made an amazing breaking away pass to frisen. Stadel was dominant for cloverdale, and the other standout i saw was 21 from surrey, he had a solid game on d going plus 2. with 15 seconds left in the 2nd, play was halted due to #19 i believe, got cut and was bleeding on the surrey bench. appparantly and skate got his calf badly and he had to go to hospital immedialtely, wish him full recovery.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if the Surrey coach can figure out who is writing about him. I'll bet he can narrow it down to three.

Six players to be drafted from a 6-11 team. I guess Abby is going to have 14. I think there were less than 30 from all the PCAHA last year!

Anonymous said...

doesn't matter who writes about him, apparently alotta people are complaining...

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't say six I would say five... Meyer Freisen Willcox Savage and Blake. No more

Anonymous said...

Ahaha willcox wasn't on the score sheet but he threw a pass .... Wooow that means he must of had a grreeeat game ahaha

Anonymous said...

Blake has been turning the puck over a lot ever since xmas. Savage seemed to struggle last night with lots of mistakes. Willcox, did not play good at all, but did have that pass which was nice, frisen had like 10 chances to score, didnt. Meyyer hogged the puck all game although he did score a pretty nice goal. You guys say 21 is a draftie? He played very well, i do agree he stood out, played well all around. This is the first time i've watched surrey so thats is what i have to say. And yes, i heard the kid cut cut right to the bone, just under his calf, so wish him a full recovery.

Anonymous said...

Meyer did carry the puck alot but was still a threat. Hey and lets be honest when hes playing with probably surrey's worste wingers I dont blame him..... Terrible game to whatch I have to say though.

Anonymous said...

It was your first time whatching Surrey, Wow and you know that much about these ay like Blake;)... Coach? Or Scout thats only been to one game lol?

Anonymous said...

Ahaha no comment...

Anonymous said...

i talked to other scouts.......

Anonymous said...

So who do u scout for;)

Anonymous said...

why do people care who i scout for....?

Anonymous said...

Ok well theres your answer...

Anonymous said...

i scout, does it matter who i scout for, wouldn't my opinion on certain players be more important rather than telling the whole world who i scout for?

Anonymous said...

What scout troop do belong to? Is there a badge that you earn for watching hockey?

Anonymous said...

This is to all the people that are ripping Surrey: STOP! You guys, people aged from like 25 right to 60, are unable to realize that these are 13 and 14 year olds playing a game called hockey. Team Willcox? What in the world does that mean. That is very disrespectful to the Willcox family. To the person that said, "Willcox threw a pass so that means he had a good game?" Were you at the game? I certainly was at the game, and it was a nice pass. The scout mentioned he did not score, but he made some highlight real plays. You laugh at his playing abilities? Are you on this site to rip apart kids? To the people who always saying, "What are BC parents thinking?" Every person has their own opinion, and how can you call a team mediocre having not watched them play once. You people are trashing kids and teams you've never watched play, and more importantly, they are 13 and 14 years of age!!! Kids should be encouraged, not made fun of? you can discuss how someone played, but you can't disrespect kids and say they are awful. These kids play hockey because they love to, they play for themselves, not for you people. They go to school, and on the side, play hockey. We need to stop ripping on kids, which is disrespectful. We should instead encourage kids. We should talk respectfully, not make rude, obnoxious comments. HF boards has many comments such as, "Hey, (Insert name here), learn how to use spellcheck on your next post. WEHP does a good job covering some great hockey talent in western canada, and people use this site to rip on kids. We do not want to turn into HF boards. Stop with the unneeded comments.

Anonymous said...

Ok Mr Wilcox

Anonymous said...

Totally agree with comment 58, this site is like turning into HF boards which just slams kids. To really think that willcox wrote that? he is 14.

Anonymous said...

Who won Surrey vs Langley?

Anonymous said...

heres my recap: Langley 4 Surrey 1. Surrey's goalie did not play good. Outgoaltended. The puck trickled across langley goal line 6 times - Surrey needed to get to the net harder and faster. To many battles lost in front of the net. Donaldson looks like he is a second rounder the way he has been playing. Surrey did not play good. Langley played well.
Why do you ask, just saying, because its available on PCAHA.ca and the game happened 10 days ago ish.

Anonymous said...

comment 61? you talkin about the cloverdale langley game on Friday? i do not know who won that.

Anonymous said...

If you come here and pimp your kid... expect to get criticism. 6 kids drafted... Really? Scout... Really? Whole team sucks except 5 kids... Really?

Anonymous said...

I would like to think that any scout would be professional enough that they would never talk about the rest of the team in the terms "this one" has.

Anonymous said...

totally agree
