97 World Selects Tournament

The start to the 97 born coverage this spring has started already.  There is a tournament taking place in Prague Czech Republic that is featuring a group of Western Canadian players from the 97 age group.  There are 16 teams taking part in the tournament from all over Europe and North America like the Czech selects, Moscow CSKA, Slovaki Selects, teams from Quebec and Ontario and many others.

The team we are focusing on though are the Calgary Nationals.  So far they have played 4 games in the tournament and are 1-3-0 against the world's best having been outscored 15-6.  However, they came up with a very impressive 3-1 victory early this morning over CSKA Moscow, handing the Russians their first loss of the tournament.  Leading the way so far for Calgary is Braylon Shmyr who has scored 3-1-4 in 4 games thus far.

The leader so far are the Czech Selects at 4-0-0 and the tournament scoring leader is Finland's Aleksi Saarela with 7-6-13.  Calgary will finish up their round robin portion against those very Finland Selects at 9:30 Prague time Saturday.
