The Cloverdale Colts walked away with a tournament title victory 5-3 over the AMBHL's Calgary Bronks. The Bronks are a mid-upper caliber team from the AMBHL and played quite likely the 4-5 best B.C. squad very strong. The Colts had Tyler Soy back from his hand injury and he along with Chris Seto were on fire all tournament long. Most of the Colts damage did come on the PP.
Pool A
Calgary Bronks 4-0
-They were led by the strong play of Hudson Elynuik, Zac Whitby and Mark Rassel. They were able to beat a good Mission squad in the semi's and lost to Cloverdale in the final.

winnipeg was without their top defensman Noah Layte as he has a broken leg
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the comments re the Colts loss to Wanachtee being Sub par goaltending - you win and loose as a team and was a sub par TEAM performance - first 3 goals by Wanachtee we all give aways.....
ReplyDeletehard to blame the Cloverdale only lose in the Kamloops tournament to sub par goaltending. Teams win and loose as a team and coaching decisions. It was a sub par game by all players not just a goaltender, especially when the first 3 goals came off giveaways, it was a sub par effort from ALL PLAYERS. Especially when the team rallyed and in the final came out on top - it is a TEAM GAME - FYI the same goalie was in for both games....The goaltending was solid throughout the tournament. If both goalies find their grove and play solid between the pipes things lookk good for Cloverdale these goalies can match up with any of the Top Goalies when given the chance to play.
ReplyDeleteSeto has cannon of a shot . not too many teams will stop him.
ReplyDeleteWow hit a nerve of a goalie parent!! I didnt read the loss blamed on sub par goaltending..But can you say the goaltending in that game was not sub par? It was awful. They have average goaltending both kids are capable. In the goalies defence it was a poor effort by the entire team. They rebounded and brought home the championship.
ReplyDeleteRe; Wenatchee/ colts game;
ReplyDeletethe MVP was Kailer Yamamoto who looked to be the most talented player in tournament with 3 goals and 2 helpers. Undoubtedly his 5 point game and penalty killing that game was the top performance bar none, in tourney. Never mind his size, the kid flat out plays at superstar level. Add Van Schaack with 2 goals and 2 helpers and Loucks in net with 40 + saves and Colts had more than they could handle.
Cloverdale Colts are top 3 in BC and on the rise!
ReplyDeleteThe comment on Seto and Soy being in fire is not a bad comment but to be honest thought that Seto carried Soy and made him a bit better than what he actual was.
ReplyDeleteThought Abbotsford looked slow and methodical and showed no imagination or creativity. All their coach did was try to slow and trap up. sounded like he had sore throat very squeeky voice
Wenatchee hard to figure out. Good goaltending but team up and down
Mission thought they worked hard may surprise some teams that take them lightly .
ReplyDeleteKamloops worked hard pretty hard to follow up last years depth up front
Kelowna should be the team coming out of OMHA
PG will have automatic birth to provincials. Did not look good at all
Great comments, you may have hit a nerve on the Colts comments and goaltending, but to comment and isolate 1 position seems strange when all the other teams had more general comments about perfomances at the tournament. As it is a Team Game and this is currently being played by 14 year olds who all work hard and are still learning the game and how to play and suceed, you have to put it together as a team to succeed and rely on all team members to perform. Yes the Wanachtee's game was a mess all around for the Colts, from the forwards to the D and yes goaltending, but when things are going crazy on the ice the game changes and the mental toughness becomes apart of the factor. Even the Colts stars were not there shining. In general the team has room to improve and would believe that there goaltending can be and is more than average - but only time will tell.
ReplyDeleteMost of Wenatchee's inconsistant play is due to Short bench with 3 to 4 players out with injuries. If & when they get healthy it could be alot different. Tanner Loucks just might be a top 2 goalie in BC & NW US.
ReplyDeletethe Colts goaltending was solid, they both have a chance to get drafted
ReplyDeleteHey 11:06 The scouts will be there to watch Seto and Soy
ReplyDeleteHey 12:35. There are as many as 6-8 potential picks from that team. FYI, and those with good stats against weak teams don't always go as high as you might think. You will have to wait till they start playing the big boys.
ReplyDeletejust so were clear, i live in winnipeg, layte had a broken wrist and has returned wearing a playing cast
ReplyDeletelayte is by far the best defenseman on the winnipeg, he is out with a broken neck
