BWC Win Westerns!!! Dombrovskiy OT winner

Adam Brooks was named MVP  (Winnipeg Hawks)

Aaron Irving was named Top Defenseman (SSAC)

I will be taking in the KIBIHT Final this afternoon in about 20 minutes as Kamloops will face POE in what should be a very good game.

  2. Hawks played well enough to win - bad break in OT!

  3. BWC was out played the entire game by the Winnipeg Hawks and had a lot of help with some real lousy calls by the officials. Not saying that BWC is a bad team but the Hawks in my opinion are the better team.

  4. I was really surprised with the play of SSAC as they were listed as the favourite and had a ton of trouble with the host team Winnipeg Sharks.

  5. Kudos to everyone at WEHP you did a great job covering the WCBC. I was at every game and I agree with all of your comments and observations that you posted. It is nice to have a great, reliable and honest site like yours that truly posts what is really going on in the hockey world.

  8. If the Hawks were a better team then they wouldn't have been swept by BWC. BWC didn't win Westerns on one game alone, good or bad call. Btw, that call HAD to be made! Barzal was flying down the wing and was tripped-up, plain and simple. I was standing right there. otherwise he would have been in all alone and we all know what the chances are if that happens. The ref had to make that call- period. By the way, both teams had two power plays in the game.

  9. Interesting weekend. Sask goes 0 for 4 again, SSAC doesn't show up and the Hawks who looked mediorce at Med Hat and St Albert step up. Congrats BWC.

  10. At the end of the year the team that wins the last game is the champion .BWC had an outstanding year.

  12. lots thought Kamloops best....Bisons very strong too and neither make it out of their province...winnipeg beat 9-1 by Bisons in St.Albert and make it to OT in Western Final...SSAC supposed to be in final against BWC but go down 3-0 and can't come back against Winnipeg to go to the final...PA brutal and no surprise there( probably a dozen teams better than them in Western Canada)...BWC strong all year and won their last game...that's why we play them out people

  13. with all that happened over the last few weeks with all teams in Western Canada during playoffs etc...who in your opinion would the top 10 teams be today. All teams had injuries and which team(s) was effected the most coming into playoffs and the WCBC. Who would you have as the top 25 prospects for 2011

  14. The chance of 9:19 being a player or parent from BWC is somewhere between slim and none. Nice try. No team in Western Canada had a better record.

All the teams at Westerns deserve their due as they are all provincial champions.

  16. I don't agree that Saskatchewan does not deserve to be there. I do think they were a little unprepared for what to expect. Should have maybe took in a AAA tournament to see where they stack up. This could have been some good character and team building. I also think they surprised some of the other teams. A couple of bounces in their favor and they beat both Alberta and Host. The difference between them and BWC was specialty teams. BWC very good. SK outshot and outchanced them but could not find the back of the net. In 5 or 7 game series Manitoba would be the winner. Great tournament.

  17. All the teams deserved to be there as they won their Province, don't argue that someone else deserved to be there, they were not.

BWC won and are now the best team simply because they won. They had the best overall speed, skill and the best goaltending. They never let up, shift in shift out they worked hard and did not quit until the final buzzer went.

Watched all the games at WCBC and Winnipeg Hawks were the best team there. They were not the most skilled team but the coaches got the most out of their 3rd liners and 5th, 6th dmen and their goaltending. They just were not able to overcome BWC. Sometimes it is just the matchup that makes all the difference.

SSAC seemed to be overconfident, from the coaches arrogance to needing to sit kids out in their final game because off off-ice issues. They have a big team with strong goaltending. Team speed, or lack there of, was definitely an issue. They used their size well, but seemed to ride the coat tails of some very strong goaltending in almost every game in the tournament. Like BWC their best overall players were the 1st years in this tournament.

Winnipeg Sharks got better as the tournament went on and, much like the Hawks, their coaching seemed to get the most out of all their players. This allowed them to rebound after Day 1 when they got blown out of both games. The Sharks had no one player that stood out just a lunch pail gang who worked on pride alone after Day 1.

Prince Albert was actually not brutal as April 11, 2011 9:32 PM claims. They actually outshot both SSAC and BWC in their games but failed to beat the best 2 goalies in the tournament, they led the Sharks late in the game but could not hold on. Some very sloppy defensive play, poor goaltending in the Hawks game and the fact that they had never played that caliber of teams consistently all season left them unprepared.

There of course is other very good teams out there but this was a tournament of the top teams from each Province. Do not take away from their accomplishments for getting to Westerns is a tough road for each of the teams that were there. Congratulate them and work harder in the future so that you get a chance to play in a prestigous tournament like this.

While the Winnipeg teams faired better than expected do not expect changes in how kids are ranked. The odd player will move up and the odd player will move down but things will not change considerably. Rankings are not determined on one weekend alone but on the entire year. Once again I was very impressed with the coaching of the teams from Manitoba. This creates a bright future for Winnipeg AAA and Manitoba born players in the future. Hockey Manitoba hold on to these guys and do not stop giving them kudo's for a job well done.

  18. 10:17 Your comment on SSAC sitting players for the final game may be some story in the stands but not true. We had 1 player out with an injury and with the part about 1st years we had 1 lead in points and 1 had 0. only 2 1st years on team total so I wouldn't compare us to BWC who should be a great team next year.

  19. Here is a question, does Brooks and Schioler from the Hawks make the All-Star teams if the tournament is held in a different province?
14 and 10 points respectively says yes. 11 and 8 points respectively against the 0-4 and 1-4 teams says no.

  20. Sorry I generalized. Here I will be specific. Estephan was by far the best forward on SSAC at Westerns, first year. Jonah never scored any points but was was aggressive and good defensively. He was maybe 6th or 7th best forward, first year.
