Sask-Can Star continues to impress

There is a tournament going on right now in Airdrie, the Southern Alberta Invitational. The tournament doesn't really feature any of the so-called summer hockey powers but one cannot ignore the summer season Cody Young is having for Sask-Can. He has put up 14 more points in just 4 games in the tournament thus far. This is now the second straight tournament he has played in that he has not only led the tournament scoring derby, but ran away with it.

Congratulations to prospect on the rise, Cody Young.

  3. so its a very weak field

  4. Well the teams missing were:
    Vancouver Selects Blue
    Saskatoon Jr. Blades
    Calgary Jr. Hitmen
    Manitoba Jr. Steelers
    Manitoba Jr. Jets

and others. I guess you could say the talent pool was a bit weaker. The Subway Classic in Winnipeg will be a good one though.

  5. The Jr Hitman were there. No teams in this tourney will be at the Subway this was a aa tourney

  6. I'm sorry, I meant the Jr. Flames.

  7. It was a weaker field - but NSD Titans won the tournament without being tested much, after finishing 3rd in Burnaby. I'm not sure who's building up Cody Young but the best player in the tournament by a landslide was Connor Bleackley, followed then by Tanner MacMaster!!!

  8. agreed and that is why Macmaster is rated as a first round talent and Bleackley a 2nd rounder and Young a 4th-5th rounder in the newsletter.

  9. Hey guys can get some hype and not be first rounders the big time players we all know MacMaster is a great player but I think good on Mr Young for being Mentioned if he has had a good spring good on you for noted this

  10. What kind of player is Bleackley? I have been hearing alot about him but never seen him play.

  11. he is a good size kid with decent skills has one move only a bit of a one trick pony but should have a good Bantam year all in all good player. Like a Lindros type

  12. Cody young did not get those points 24 ,he should of finished with 17.SAsk Can team Is lead by a couple excellant players up front.

  13. I've watched Champions Cup, Challenge Cup & SA Selects 96 tourny's. I haven't seen a better player this spring than Bleackley and that includes anyone on the Flames roster. He has deceiving outside speed, good moves, great shot & is extremely strong on the puck. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves because he plays on brutal winter teams.

  14. NSD is a good Team , And for C Young one way player ,poor in his own end .

  15. Mr Bleakley please better than all the jr Flames better than all the jr Blades he is not better than the guy on his linehe has on move no finish and skates with his head down

  16. "Mr bleackley" lead his team in goals with 6 in the challenge cup and again the the selects tourny with 11. No finish???

  17. Against who? I saw him play in the Challenge cup he has one move toe drag and then shot. He is a good player but dont go over boardhe was no where near the leaders in Challenge cup the tourney hasnt even added the final games to the totals. If you think he is better than MacMaster on his own team I dont know what your looking at

  22. It does seem that the only ones that are any good play spring??? I know of a lot of the top players in the Edmonton area who are doing 3 on 3 or ball hockey and not playing in these tournaments that the Scouts don't even go to!!!

  23. Geese guys, take a deep breath. There are dozens of sites that rank hockey players.
I bought 1 of the news letters and might buy a couple more before the 2011 Draft.
I find it interesting to see where some of the boys get ranked.
My son didn't play spring hockey this year, so I realise he and a number of others guys would be hard to rank.
I think the list will be somewhat accurate by the time the draft rolls around.
And, dads have been pumping their hockey playing sons for years, don't expect it to magically stop anytime soon

  24. I find it funny when an Administrator does not like a comment they delete it, not much point asking for comments????

  25. LOL.
Maybe posts that bash or discredit kids or the site wouldn't get deleted if people posted with their real names attached.
I guess they wouldn't bother posting if they had to state their name.
    Get over it.

  26. Enough already!!!
The list is a nice idea to generate interest for kids. BUT the only lists that count are those in the hands of the Head Scout of the WHL team on draft day 2011. Even those lists will be different from team to team. Right now there are a lot of kids on this list that are not even on the top 250 list of some WHL teams. Have fun .....

  27. Agree or disagree with the 26 comments it created some buzz, anyways I have yet to order a news letter so I have yet to see your top 100, but was wondering you have a top 10 on the main page, what about a top 5 for forwards and defence and goalies, just wondering!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree!
    Mr Admin, can you put up a article with the top 5 F / D / G ?
That would be interesting to see

  29. We will continue to update the site with new features as we progress through summer hockey. The next updated Top 10 list for the site will be just after the Subway Classic in Winnipeg which begins on June 17th I believe.

    best regards

  30. I do not understand what the hype is all about Cody Young. I seen him play in the Calgary Champions Cup against the Jr.Flames and other top level AAA teams and did not even notice him. Not sure what kind of high level scout your are to have a player of this stature rated in the top 100. This player has a good chance not getting drafted at all. Why put pressure on this kid when he is enjoying success at a level lower than what WHL scouts really look at!

    ReplyDelete
  31. He has had a great deal of success this summer. He has put in a lot of hard work and yes he has been noticed by many scouts, including this one.

Fact of the matter is, you can talk to 50 scouts and get a substantially different list from each one.

Cody Young is doing well and deserves the credit.

  32. I agree with the above post. But if that's the case then we should have an article on every kid playing Bantam AA/AAA Tier I to be objective and fair.

  33. Scotty B;

If you are willing to go do all that work, then all the power to you. The fact of the matter is, he deserved to be profiled. If people have any players they wish to have profiled you are more than welcomed to bring that to my attention. Keep in mind, the summer is long, the winter/spring season is long and there will be plenty more chances for other kids to be profiled. Many are profiled in the newsletter as well.

There will be kids profiled who may not have been looked at prior and there will be some 4-7 round talent profiled, as well as top notch talent profiled.
